The British statesman and political philosopher Edmund Burke wrote, "The effect of liberty to individuals is that they may do as they please. We ought see what it will please them to do before we risk congratulations." Therein lay the problem with laws that permit abortion on demand.

A society that premises its law as "Choice"- to use the locution of abortion rights advocates - effectively leaves open the question of the value of human life. It becomes not a standing principle, but a subjective judgment to each individual. In such a society, human life becomes not an end in itself, but mere instrument. Life becomes not an object whose preservation is the highest standard, but rather a convenience to be maintained or not according to the satisfaction of another's will.

We shape our laws and then our laws shape us - see also the civil rights laws of the 1960s which have effected a revolution in race relations. (The idea that a black man and a white man cannot sit together at the same lunch counter is as alien to this generation as Neptune. Yet in 1965 it was pretty much the norm.)

Inherent then in the pro-choice argument is the idea that life has no value save that which each person chooses to attach to it. It denies society any authority to make a collective judgment on such questions. Therefore, in this view, the law may not afford protection to life except at some arbitrarily defined (and inherently subjective) point.

This then conduces to an assertion of power over rights. Life is maintained not as its own end, but according to the will of the person who, effectively, controls it because they can. An ethic of convenience is established and it is a slippery slope on which to build a culture and a legal edifice.

Such a society will not value life that sees life as not an end, but as a means to some other end. Indeed, that is why at about the same time as the culture began to shift on the abortion question we also saw a rise in child abuse, spousal abuse, divorce, out of wedlock births and other social pathologies. These were not unrelated phenomena.

Aristotle said that the first questions of politics are, "How ought we to live? What kind of a people do we wish to be?" The implicit answer of those who support abortion on demand is, in effect, that it is nobody's business. Predictable results follow. One cannot expect the society to absent itself from collective moral judgments on the value of life and then expect an ethical social order to result.

I feel like people think with sentiments rather than logic. I understand how important babies are and I know most importantly how important it is to bring them into a loving and safe home.
why bring kids into poverty? What’s the point. For them to suffer it’s wrong. Why bring a child to this world when you’re not ready for it. So many young ladies face shame and discrimination because of how young they got pregnant. Kicked out by their parents and you believe bringing the child into this world they never planned on having is good. I used to be prolife once until I was sexually assaulted by my ex and the fear he came in me made me want to do all things possible to prevent any form of pregnancy. And deep in my heart I knew if there was a child I was going to get rid of it. Because I won’t even have any family support, no school no college. No one has that right over any girl. It’s funny because a lot of prolife supporters are men who can’t even conceive. They shouldn’t have a say in the matter. This should be strictly for ladies it’s their body they face the shame. It should be an alternative for them. No one deserves to go through 9 months they don’t want to go through and no baby deserves to be brought into a loveless family. Sure you could always give them up for adoption. Think about the teenagers do they know the process especially left alone by their families. Except society is ready to give all the love and especially financial support they have for teen parents and single parents especially the mums. Then abortion should be a right of every girl.

I don’t like to label my views, because I have my personal opinions and views, but I also don’t care what others do with their bodies as long as it doesn’t affect me. I don’t want to be labeled as either pro-life or pro-choice.

However, for my personal opinions and views, I would not get an abortion under any circumstance unless medically necessary. I personally believe life starts at conception and I don’t think I would physically or emotionally be able to abort my child. My morals and values say that it is wrong, and I am strong in my morals and values of life. I don’t label my views on abortion because I don’t see the point in it, and I don’t think it really matters what I believe in unless it is brought up between me and my partner when it is time to talk about family and compatibility.

People have different views than me, people also have different cultures or religions, which may be against abortion, or may think it is okay. I respect people’s religions, cultures, and views even if I disagree, as long as they respect mine and my views. I don’t care what other people do as long as it doesn’t affect me. Plus, I don’t think my opinion on their body and choice matters to other people, and they won’t listen anyway… So I don’t see the point in trying to argue or control other people's actions that have no effect on my life.

I'm anti-abortion for a lot of reasons so I'll just select a small group of them

The first one is you never know what that child could become they could become the world's most smartest person they could solve world hunger they could put someone on Mars or invent a new mode of transportation that leads humanity into a new era you never know honestly and for every abortion there is just one more opportunity gone and that's my first reason

My second reason is that I believe everyone should be given a chance to live I believe that is a human right a right exclusive to people and the babies are a people and I'd argue that fetuses are a people as well and to take the life of this unborn human is inhumane and disgraceful of course there are exceptions to this rule a big one being that if the mother is going to die because of the birth then an abortion should be allowed it should be optional but allowed as this is the sacrifice of One Life to save another and I do believe in sacrifice.

My third reason is that humanity might end up needing more people to expand our society end of us every human life we can save is a human life that can be fed into the societal machine to keep humanity as a whole alive and thriving

For my fourth reason I decided I'm going to go with something a little less logical and a little more emotional because unfortunately you can't solve everything with logic.
Growing up I've never really been given much choices I was never really allowed to have free will even when I was 17 almost 18 I wasn't really allowed to have opinions or even emotions and because of this upbringing I've come to value human life and freedom in a rather unique way a way that I don't think most people can ever understand sounds crazy I know but when you're told not to have emotions like at all and when you do show emotions especially emotions that your overlords disagree with (I say overlords because that's how I think of my tyrant mother and sister and they were truly tyrannical to a point where they tried to control my own thoughts and emotions literally yes they literally tried to do that and they went really hard in trying to do it)

Lots of reasons. Denying anyone's humanity, for any reason, is wrong. It consistently, and some would argue inevitably, leads to the commission of atrocities upon the group that has been targeted.
I've noticed that the "pro-choice" advocates like to use terms like "parasite", "clump-of-cells", and use the word "foetus" (or "fetus" - US spelling) as though the fact it's a foetus isn't compatible with it being a human being as well.
They try to define who we are (ex. self-awareness, consciousness, bodily-autonomy) in a way that allows them to feel good about what they're advocating for, as though having a certain specific characteristic or facility is what bestows value upon life, rather than it having intrinsic worth.
They try to deny our ability, as individuals, to act responsibly in order to prevent a situation arising where a decision on whether or not to abort a child arises in the first place, and generally carry on like it's somehow "unfair" that they can't always get what they want, when they want it.
Pregnancy is one of those things are are REALLY easy to prevent. It takes two people to make a baby (yes, there is the father there, usually being ignored and laughed to scorn by a society that undervalues him), so really there is no excuse for such a barbaric practice. Situations will sometimes arise when an abortion is required, for example in the case where the mother's life is at risk or it's the result of a rape, but these examples are (thankfully) relatively rare.
By the way, I'm also against the death penalty and war. It's unfortunate that so many "pro-lifers" are absolute hypocrites, and support the war-mongering, psychopathic Democratic Party. The Republicans are almost as bad.

If you are, why are you pro-life?

I think women should be allowed to choose.

Being pregnant is not a journey for just anyone,
it is a huge stress to body, giving birth is literally - you splitting in half and after that your body is a whole mess, you hate yourself, your mental state is in the worst way possible, you hate life. Your body changes totally, stretch marks, saggy boobs - so on and on…

    It’s a huge stress for a woman.

The whole mess is only worth going through if you really want to have a baby, if you are healthy enough to go through this whole thing and and you will be able to provide for them.

Abortion should not be used like a contraception I agree, but women should be able to choose, do they want to go through the living hell or not.

I’ve never had abortion, nor have given birth but I can only imagine how scary and painful this whole experience is and how awful it is to be forced to give birth when you don’t want a baby.

It’s interesting mostly men are pro-lifers and the only thing they have to do in this whole process is just put their dicks inside vagina and cum there…

If I have to choose between a life of an already born person whose life might be ruined by giving birth and life of a newly merged sperm and egg, I would rather choose the life of an already born person.

However, if anyone is going to have abortion, they should have it as early as possible.

For example 4 weeks is a poppy seed size, abortion should be addressed before the fetus develops nerves to feel pain.

This being said I don’t think I’d ever have to have abortion because I believe pregnancy needs planning and I am always careful when making love, so I don’t have any unwanted pregnancies.

I and my boyfriend wanted to have our first kid at 27, we broke up so…

If they didn’t think about such things, then guys wouldn’t have to beg for sex most of the time.

And there wouldn’t be hundreds of sex hungry guys in the dms of almost all girls.

To your credit you did say not to use it as a contraceptive and you also said to get it as soon as possible to prevent pain. Many women are just batshit crazy on this subject. Were you aware the pro choice crowd was pushing up to and even post delivery of the baby? In pro life and I see it diff from how you describe. You make it sound like men don't care. Men DO care and many would be more than willing to step up to be the father of their child. Some of this has to do with poor mate selection on the woman's part. They are the gatekeepers and have the final say. I view abortion a very different way from an angle I've never once seen a female mention, betrayal. A life out into motion by their parents' actions without a say and totally dependent on mommy. A baby looks to their mother for safety, comfort, and nourishment. This baby is the literal flesh and blood of their mother and the mother chooses to throw them away like a piece of trash, end their life instead of enduring the concequences of their actions and simply giving up custody so the baby can thrive. This is the most ethical course of action. I cannot look at a woman who had an abortion the same way I look at one who didn't.

@t-8900 The fetus with the same size of poppy seed or apple seed is not looking up to her mother. Don’t look at it in the romanticized way…

What I find sad is that men here feel free to decide the future of a woman and judge women for not wanting babies, while the woman has to go through the worst kind of suffering to give birth.

And then your market price decreases because men like fresh meat without stretch marks without saggy boobs. You know how many times I’ve read comments here by men complaining about their wives post pregnancy bodies. How many of them cheat on their pregnant wives.

It made me feel like men are ungrateful most of the time anyway, so If a woman wants to have a baby, she should choose carefully who to have a baby with and she should be able to terminate pregnancy as early as possible like I stated before. I don’t know what’s wrong with that.

I see why most men are pro-lifers because deep down man’s primal obligation is to impregnate as many women as possible and spread as many genes as possible. But… Women are not baby making bodies without soul. Abortion has been addressed ever since the mankind exists.

Women are still going to do this, better make the regulations so that they are less painful for the fetus and for the woman as well and more safe.

The other day there was a question saying some men value fetus life more than woman’s life and I posted an answer “I was surprised by that” because I believe life of an already born person who loves and who is loved is more precious than life of a fetus and I would choose the woman’s life rather than life of a fetus if I had to choose. 2 people disliked my opinion. 2 people thought it’s better for a mother to die and a fetus to decide.

      How crazy is that?

Would anyone say a man should die for the fetus to survive?

      That’s crazy.

I am pro-choice and I’ll always be, even if I myself never plan to get abortion in future.

      part 1 of 3:

The baby could be a boy or a girl. I dont judge a woman who doesn't want babies. There's a difference between not wanting kids and getting rid of your own. I believe in freedom of choice. I however do not believe in freedom of concequences. I would advise women who dont want kids use multiple forms of birth control with the knowledge they could become pregnant, accept it, and put the child up for adoption when the time comes, or outright just dont have sex. It's not the worst thing in the world to practice abstinence. I did till I was 26 myself and knock on wood, I was much better for it.

"And then your market price decreases because men like fresh meat without stretch marks without saggy boobs. You know how many times I’ve read comments here by men complaining about their wives post pregnancy bodies. How many of them cheat on their pregnant wives."

I don't know about you but those men dont exactly sound like prizes. I've seen that too. I've also seen lots of men on here who openly cuck.

      part 2 of 3:

Gag has a lot of society's bottom feeders tbh. But thats the internet for you. You need to get out more if you think all or most men are like that. You may not be aware but I'm dating a woman 10+ years my senior. Personality matters a hell of a lot more to me then a rack of tits.

You got part of it right, women should choose carefully. But you got the second part wrong. They should not sleep with any man who won't put a ring on it. That was why women of the previous generations did better. A guy had to prove himself before he got anything from her. That's how it needs to be again. Although tbh women working high end jobs DOES disrupt the mating ritual more than anyone cares to admit. However at the same time some women just want a career and money or are just really ugly. They deserve to be able to have those careers if they want them. But careers shouldn't be emphasized by society onto young girls. Instead those girls need to have the time to figure out what they want first.

What you're describing are low-grade trash, not men. Men dont see women as soulless. But baby making is very important to most. We have family names, bloodlines, thats important to us. But thats not why most pro life men are pro life. Simply put you are killing their children in their eyes. It doesn't matter how you want to see it. To us those are our kids and you're killing them. We'll never look at you the same way again. For me the woman who aborts is a monster, plain and simple. A monster no different then those behind bars for heinous crimes and that will never change. It's a betrayal, period. If there's one thing I will never forgive it's betrayal.

      part 3 of 3:

Frankly I see abortion as murder and like those that are on death row, when someone kills another I no longer care what their fate is. A life for a life is just karma at that point.

A baby is a clean slate, innocent, has a full life ahead of it. I value it more than those who would have abortions simply because if you have an abortion you are a murderer in my eyes and as such the life of an innocent child takes priority over that of a murderer. Because murderers, rapists, etc are dirt to me, actually less than dirt. For instance I'm fine if all of the inmates on death row who we have solid evidence for doing the things they did or admitted to it are dragged out back and shot as they no longer deserve to be breathing. It's simply justice. Justice they long ago deserved while eating and being housed on taxpayer dollars.

I'm not about oppressing women and that might be the take away for feminists, that's simply not true. Actions have consequences. Many men dont want a woman who has had sex too so again if we're worried about what most men want then most women would be virgins or have had no more than 2-3 sex partners in their whole lives. Sure she can lie, but then her whole relationship will be built on pillars of sand and it won't last when she slips up.

I am very much Pro Choice.

Abortion is a very necessary evil.

For those having an abortion, it often stays with them for life, it’s not always an easy decision.

There are many reasons someone will go for an abortion, that is their personal choice and yes it often involves their partner.

My personal view is that when a couple enter a relationship or have unprotected sex, they need to have had an adult conversation about what happens if the girl gets pregnant, in the real world not all guys want to be a daddy and will happily want her to have an abortion. Equally a girl might be, if you are not happy that I have an abortion, then we are finished as a couple or no more unprotected sex, keep that condom on.

As for birth control thing, it is a thing where girls do not know they are pregnant even up to the point of their waters breaking. A lot definitely do not show for months.

The decision by a country should also be a medical and legal one, no political point scoring and definitely no religious input.

It also needs to be very well regulated both within the medical field and also legally.

On here it’s also rather funny how a number of Guys are very much anti abortion BUT are also the ones who will kick their kid out of house at 13 or so if they are gay or lesbian or heaven forbid Transgender.

they love their children that much they are happy to disown them, shoot them (it’s been said a lot), kick out of the house before they are adults.

I wonder how many of those would be happy with abortion IF it was 100% possible to know if their recently conceive son would turn round at 13 and say he was Gay….

Also how many of these guys would be happy if their 18 yr old white daughter got pregnant by a black guy with zero prospects… ‘it’s okay Wendy, have your child we will look after it while you are at college’… yeah as if.

Let's get one thing straight here: abortion is literally killing people before they're born. We can give you all sorts of fancy medical terms like "early termination of pregnancy," "forced miscarriage," and the like, but at the end of the day, abortion is killing people before they're born. Spot. People can say what they want, there is no way that abortion advocates are so passionate about killing babies before they take their first breath. Are you really that enthusiastic about inserting transparencies into a vagina and cutting up a fetus? Let's keep it 100 here... there are so many lame excuses I don't even know where to start: "I DON'T WANT TO BRING A CHILD INTO THIS CRUEL WORLD!". You don't give a fuck about anyone but yourself and now we're supposed to believe that you suddenly care about your unborn child? So much so that he is willing to kill him to keep him away from the dangers of life? Have the child, put him up for adoption. There are plenty of infertile couples out there who would love to adopt a baby and raise it as their own, and you know it. "I'M NOT READY TO BE A MOTHER!" Nobody is, honey. But she should have thought of that before she let a man pour his sperm on her because it was "soooo cool!" Fortunately for you, as stated above, there is the option of adoption if you want to avoid the consequences of your slutty actions…again. There are also thousands of fire stations, police stations, and other organizations that will take a newborn off your hands with no questions asked. But that would be too easy, wouldn't it? “WELL, I DON'T WANT HIM TO BE IN FOSTER! I HAVE HEARD STORIES!” So pick it up yourself. Oh, don't you want to? Correct…. that “cruel world” excuse again.

How do you protect the life of a minor (say 12 or 13) that is raped and impregnated with the rapist's baby? Who's pro life for her? How do you protect and defend the life of the little girl that didn't ask to be a mother to a child that was forced into her. Yes into. Forced into. I believe most people here mean well, and I can respect consenting adults deciding to be not for aborting in their own personal lives.

I can't see how people ignore these situations. It happens and even to the pro lifers with the best of intentions are not really seeing the world for as gray as it can be.

I can't say I am pro-life, I'm pro small government, especially on the federal level and states should have the right to decide the issues locally.

I do think that the morning after pill should be over the counter and easy access, and required to be given to rape victims when they report a rape.

Literally almost no reason to have an abortion if one can take a pill the next day, just in case or when against will.

If in a relationship, the couple needs to do other kinds, IUD's, and so forth.

I don't like the idea of them cutting up 7 or 8 months old babies because they aren't born yet, but anything done with the morning after pill is fine by me.

Even 8 weeks or so, is still fine by me... chemical abortions.

I know a lot of people are like the morning after pill is abortion to.

I´m pro-life because having unprotected sex naturally leads to the creation of another human being. Who am I that I´m deciding who is worth living and who´s not? If you wanna prevent a pregnancy there are other ways to do so.
But for me there are exceptions possible to allow an abortion like in cases of incest, rape or the mothers health and life is at risk. In such situations there should be the option of an abortion because of the negative consequences they bear for the mother plus those situations are more than often not a consequence of consensual sex.

So a woman in college getting an unexpected pregnancy because contraception didn't work correctly, is stuck with a baby that will ruin her life?
Or a woman getting a divorce or breaking up a relationship will be stuck with a baby of someone who she will never see again?
Abortion needs to be legal worldwide without exceptions.

@YoMan1 These are valid cases. But maybe guys should think more with what´s beside their eyes than what´s between their legs. It´s part of nature that sex comes with consequences like most things life. If you don´t want maybe you should look for other alternatives like raising the standards for people you wanna sleep with.
There are other alternatives than of contraception than taking a life of a future person because an abortion also can have negative physical and psychological consequences.
I know women that were made to abort by their boyfriends and had a depression after wards. Is that better?

You can't separate sex and the person, humans are like that.

What are the other alternatives there are to contraception?

Legal abortions take into consideration the life of the woman, because that's what healthcare providers do. If the woman is at risk she won't get one.

Abortions should only be the choice of the woman, not their boyfriends/husbands.

@YoMan1 I do understand you. I´m neither a native speaker by the way. There are contraceptions like condoms, pills...
The problem I rather have with modern culture that people sleep with each other too quickly. Especially guys often prefer to see the fun part over the consequences. But that´s not how life works. Yes it´s definetely not easy to abstain from sex but I do it myself and I feel it´s worth it.

If it's that what you want, go for it. I disagree about "how life works" because it's different for everyone. The modern culture of sleeping with everyone and escaping consequences does not align with the religious past of many countries. But that does not mean it's wrong.

I understand there have been cases where a woman gets pregnant without her own consent. so I'll typically say that after the first trimester I lean more pro-life. unless there is medical reasons why not to continue the pregnancy. like the woman and/or child could be lost or have major health issues. but I would say try to save both the woman and child if possible. because the child could be put up for adoption if she can't or won't care for it herself. there are many people in the world that could offer to adopt the child if need be. however there have been studies showing that with each abortion a woman has. she decrees her ability over time to ever carry a child full term in the future.

I'm personally pro choice. I don't think this something that should be taken lightly however.

Sometimes life is cruel and with that you have rapists. Some will rape kids. If a 12 yr old is raped and you think she should have to go through carrying the baby and raising her rapist's child, I believe you're a monster.

That said I respect when consenting adults decide they don't believe in abortion if an accidental pregnancy happens. I'm mainly pro choice to protect a young girl like in my example. Outside of that I don't think it's anyone's business what they do with their body really. There are many hypocrites with pro lifers when you ask them about life after birth.

So my thing is that I do find it to be murder. But other than that I have heard of many people getting them because they can't handle or don't want to handle the responsibility. When I was in highschool a girl had 2 abortions by senior year. And just laughed about it saying she doesn't want a kid but she wants to be able to have fun. And really it was right then that I started being against it. Now that's one example I know. But I also believe if adoption was more about the children rather than making money off them then less people would choose abortion.

    1. I believe killing is wrong
    2. I believe right to live is a natural human right, which is not regulated by any law
    3. I don't like dehumanisation of a baby in mother's womb. Hitler used to say Jews were not humans, so killing them is nothing bad - saying a baby in mother's womb is not a human is not far from it (by the way, III Reich was second country in Europe to legalise abortions, first was USSR - I have to admit pro-choicers have good role models)
    4. It's only one step from eugenics, which is undoubtly bad
    5. 90% of abortions are for selfish reasons/ lack of responsibility. People want to eat a cake and have a cake at the same time
    6. It can cause bad results in longer term - look at China and India - there was a huge abortion of females and now the gender ratio is screwed there.
    7. I don't like calling a child in womb "a parasite" etc. which is very common among left-wings.

I'm not very involved in politics these days and couldn't give a shit about their back and forth arguments.
All I know is that for myself I chose to have sex while in a committed relationship, while employed, and I made sure I was prepared to be a father.
Abortion was never an option, discussion, or even an issue for us.
I'm pro-life on the basis that I have no plans of aborting kids, but I also stay out of other people's lives as well.

I believe everyone deserves a chance at life. No matter the circumstances the child has a choice what path they decide to go on. It also gives couples/singles a chance to be a parent if they cannot conceive. Infertility is a struggle in many homes. A child can’t choose to strive and be successful when the person just decides they can’t go through with it so have it killed. Even from rape. Turn the other cheek. Try to be positive one way or another that rape is going to stick with you. I know it’s hard bc it’s a traumatic experience but the child doesn’t need to know what happened. The child also has a choice to be a better person. Also abortions can cause a lot of problems for females

I'm pro-life in the literal sense, but I am also pro-abortion. I think everyone who is anti-abortion (regarding other people, not themselves) are just virtue signaling out bullsh*t and pretending to care about something they don't give two sh*ts about.

Women should have thought about the consequences before deciding to have intercourse.

All these women fighting tooth and nail to defend abortion just shows how selfish some of them really are.

There's no difference between them and serial killers

I'm Pro-Life because abortion is profoundly anti-family, anti-woman, and anti-man. By taking away birth, it gives men no responsibility, and so they stop acting like men, effectively neutering the father.
