I saw a TV interview with one of the cops. It was Jesse Waters doing the interview. Waters asked where the gunman was. The cop said he was was in a barricaded classroom with his hostages.
Waters then suggest that the kids were short, and most likely on the floor. And the gunman would have been standing and facing his blockade getting ready to shoot any cop that attempted to break through.
The cop agreed. So Jesse asked: "So why didn't one of you just walk up to the window and kill him?"

Maybe but the real problem is that there's too many sheep in society who always do what they're told even when they should know what is morally right/wrong and do what's right.
