Ron DeSantis is the obvious best choice for the conservatives at this point in time, he's obviously planning to run at some point in the future, but there's a reasonably high chance that he will skip 2024, and with good reason. Even if the Republicans win the office, whoever holds it is going to be forced to make some extremely heavy-handed decisions that will have short-term repercussions that could easily sink an otherwise perfect administration in the court of public opinion. This is basically the best argument for a Trump ticket since he wouldn't be up for re-election afterwards, anyway.
Personally, I'd rather Donald Trump not be the nominee. Sure he's a kid on Christmas compared to Biden in terms of energy and charisma, but he's still going to be too old. He'd be far from my last choice, but I do consider him pretty much the baseline minimum of who I'd vote for in the primary. It's likely that the party will try to push a more middle of the road candidate like Kristi Noem or Lindsay Graham, but the voters on the right won't swoon over any of them, so it would be received about as well as the left's attempt to make Kamala Harris the frontrunner in 2020. Some other likely candidates will be Josh Hawley, Mike Pompeo, Nikki Haley, and maybe Rand Paul and Alan West.
Domestic issues are going to utterly dominate politics for the foreseeable future. This is favorable for DeSantis and Rand Paul, but not favorable for Pompeo and Haley, who are much stronger in foreign policy/diplomatic affairs. Trump has sort of a middle ground here because he's strong on the economy (which is definitely the widest-reaching issue) but not so much on social issues, and his real strength was in foreign diplomacy, which the country largely couldn't care less about right now.
I respectfully disagree with your assertion that domestic issues will be more prominent than foreign policy. I think foreign policy right now is more important than ever before, and it will even grow in importance in the immediate coming years.

DeSantis needs to work on his branding. Ironically leftists yelling “death Santis” are actually helping him. A lot of people didn’t know who he was until the pandemic hit.
Trump has his big brand name that helped him win 2016. I will take him over any Democrat but he was never my first choice as a Republican nominee.
The good news is that Biden is so unfavorable eighth now that almost any republican will look like a better choice.
I predict that if DeSantis gets into the White House he’ll have the whole weight of academia, media, entertainment, and the deep state thrown against him. He would be demonized within a couple years, impeached, and if none of that works at this point I’m convinced the oligarchy would use violence to maintain control. The only chance of unseating the left is to get supermajorities in Congress of non-RINO Republicans (not going to happen) and then pass laws allowing the firing of the whole bureaucracy, liquidation and privatization of the whole education system from top to bottom (separation of indoctrination and state), the end of the central banking system, and a reversal of purges that have been done to the military officers.
I would hope Donald J Trump but when he been talking he doesn’t give me the feeling he going to run again. Trump had a good record of achievements in office despite all the lawfare and legislative and bureaucratic roadblocks the establishment threw up to keep their corruption going. DeSantis has done a great job at the state level, but is unproven on the national stage. We don’t know what his economic and foreign policies would look like.

In overall numbers Biden was "the most popular". However, what that claim fails to take into consideration is a little something called demographics.
