You are in power, question is how far you willing to go to reform kids who are on the wrong path.
Assume teens are caught doing crimes (car theft)... which are disrupting your life, costing you $ and life. Would you put them in a reform program that is... severe like military boot camp... or worse. They receive the re-parenting they never got at home or school so they learn discipline, boundaries, respect, rules they apparently missed from parents. Accept that some may die in the reform process or while being caught. You take responsibility for that... you may be one of the reformers.
If your answer is race specific, specify how that would change the program. Like would you accept kids being beaten into submission... at the risk of dying.

With that being said for the most part all teenagers are essentially dysfunctional given their mental state and the amounts of hormones racing through their systems. Lol my only release was football or sex with my girlfriend LMFAO. An apparently that wasn't enough in that I became a US Army Scout Sniper for 6 years and resigned and became a USAF PJ in Iraq and Afghanistan seriously settled down with my wife and twin daughters and son. An although very challenging when I came home my wife and 3 kids as I call them to this day even though they have all graduated college and living independently on their own, to me honestly they are just my kids lol.

There is nothing to "reform"
Most of these programs are just money making enterprises by former cops and psychologists that do nothing but line their pockets.
There aren't really "dysfunctional youths" - I say that as a former gang member and hacker in my younger days. But rather, young people with few avenues to do better with themselves. I caught my avenue when was up for murder, and got off on self defence. I knew one of the lawyers sons and got into a little enterprise with him and went onto better things from there.
It's more about taking people out of situations and into different ones. If they don't change, then you know they are fucked up people.
As someone who grew up in a type of reform camp where my parents worked, I can tell you it doesn't work. Sure, they get better while they're at the camp, but then they go back home to the same crappy parents that shaped them into losers to begin with. 95% of them end up the same way they were.
I agree that the parents need equal reformation otherwise it's pointless. My parents eventually quit that job out of discouragment from that problem. The places they worked were pretty much like really structured summer camps, but for children who were 1 strike away from being sent to a juvenile detention center. Instead of goofing around they had to help clean and maintain the house and yard, and also help do community projects. I see a lot of teens who came from there claim they are cruelty camps, but they are not and many of the kids have maintained contact with my parents.
hummm... not sure I'm hearing this right. I hear people making kids do some work... that's not all bad, as long as there is play time. my wife/family grew up working the fields to eat, a lot of kids have chores. maybe I'm not hearing the reality right...
These kids were 14-17, and usually had never done a chore in their lives and were accustomed to getting their way. Majority of them were also very rich.
depends on the age and resistance. get to 17yrs old with built up traumas, may take a lot of work to get them right sided. I know a guy who went to prison and took years to crack his shell and turn him around, all because his father was abusive... mostly. people die in boot camp, Id expect some won't make it. gotta be realistic with what you are embarking on... should you choose to accept it. That's why I ask democrats... that bunch is more sensitive, good to set expectations...
Yeah shit I guess we are more sensitive. If you have trauma that doesn't mean you need to go to boot camp and have it physically beaten out of you. You probably need psychological help–is that at least part of the program? Or hey why not make the kid do like AA type stuff, like the 10 steps adjusted? Meet weekly, talk, have milestones and a sponsor and all that good shit. There are MANY less harmful ways to get discipline and actual support for kids.
im good with that as well, of course... it's a program to rehabilitate people. maybe that's the starting point, good idea. I just figure some are going to resist instructions and so need more force to change direction.
Okay thanks for being reasonable. I don't think the idea of "re-parenting" is inherently bad, and some of what your saying could definitely help (exercise and routine can help with processing trauma), I just don't think those type of rehabilitation/retraining *camps* for minors is ever a good idea. They always seem to end up as horror stories that did way more harm than good. Just Google "kids rehab camp exploit" there is a fuck ton of exploitive "tough love" camps that have been shut down over the decades. I'm sure they started with good intentions too but I just don't think that system can work at this point...
revolving door without proper rehab, not working. kids need to stay in rehab until they are reconditioned... then release... before they are hardened criminals with big records.
lock them up. Enforce the three strikes law. punishment must be severe enough to be a deterrent. Most are given a slap on the wrist and they all know it is a joke.
