The politics of Florida center around Classical Liberalism, Constitutionalism, Right-Libertarianism, and Capitalism for the most part. The further north you go toward Dixie and further inland away from the coast, the more religious Conservatism you get (with the exception of the North West coast) and the more important family values are. As a result there is a lot of overlap with Conservatism. Conservatives generally want to preserve cultural institutions like our constitutional rights, the democratic values of our republic, our property rights, etc. In contrast the Democrats want Western values to be tested to the breaking point, they want to rig elections, and for you to “own nothing and be happy”. Conservatives generally support traditional institutions like the military and the police. Florida believes in the rule of law and was a front runner in combating the defund the police movement. The rule of law is important for capitalism. In contrast Democrats want to defund the police and consistently practice catch and release of violent offenders. Florida is in the top 5 when it comes to new military recruits by the number of 18 to 24 year-olds along side other southern power houses like South Carolina, Georgia, and Virginia. Florida also has close to 1.5 million military veterans. Florida is very financially conservative state always maintaining a healthy budget. It is a strongly capitalistic state with many business incentives and no state income tax. It’s a right to work state. Property values are respected with special homestead laws and castle doctrine to defend your property. Farm land is preserved through Green Belt laws. Floridians are very anti-communist regardless of if they are Republicans or Democrats. Nation of origin is important when it comes to Hispanic populations. Florida’s Spanish are Cubans, Puerto Ricans, Dominicans, and South Americans from places like Venezuela who have experienced the horrors of socialist dictators and have a strong appreciation for American liberty. In contrast in the South West (California), Hispanics are primarily Mexican Mestizos who believe in communist promises of Reconquista and as a result hate America.

Also Cubans historically don't like jfk with the bay of pigs. So a lineage of not liking the democratic party. Then the age old adage pot heads don't vote.
Then you have the 2000 election fiasco. The bad ballot design change the course of history on florida soil. Definitely left a mark on the democratic party with florida.00 Reply

Asker+1 yThat is true.

@69Bruh69 What a retard. The Rednecks were West Virginia “union” coal miners that rebelled against aristocratic mine owners. They rose up against the powerful industrialists demanding labor rights and union recognition which culminated in the Battle of Blair Mountain against Baldwin-Felts agents which were hired mercenaries employed by coal companies to put down the rebellion. They were demonized by the rich through the media in major city newspapers as poor dumb country folk to justify the slaughter. Mother Jones, where one of your leftist newsletter takes it’s name from was one of the union organizers who continued their work pushing socialist politics for the workers party union workers throughout Appalachia and the rust belt. You Democrats really are dumb as shit, it’s amazing you have enough brain cells to continue breathing.

A redneck is a general term for southerners who have tanned necks from working hard in the sun, and tend to be conservative Christians who live in the country. No normal person is thinking about Virginians when they hear the term "redneck". I've lived in the south, raised by rednecks my whole life, and they would all laugh at your sorry attempt at sounding educated.

@LazerBean I'm not surprised your family is dumb, the apple doesn't fall far from the tree.

@BeMuse If you hadn't stayed back in kindergarten and then dropped out of school in second grade, maybe you would realize how the political parties have changed, dumbass. Democrats used to be pro slavery, and now they are pro equity. Those are polar opposites, just like education and you. If you want to have a civilized debate with real knowledge, let me know whenever your ready (which im assuming is never).

@69Bruh69 Anyone can look up what I said and figure out that you are wrong and I am right. Nothing changed about southern Democrats, they just migrated to the West Coast, Midwest, and North East with the Great Migration. Republicans migrated south with the Sunbelt migration. Your grasp of history is infantile. You really are an ignoramus.

@BeMuse You're the one who literally just said to look the information up. I didn't say shit about web searches being reliable. My dad is a fucking political science major from wiliams with a phd, has published a book and many articles about specifically red necks and now teaches at williams. Not that you would know what Williams is, as a community college dropout.

+1 yBecause it is politically. Social paradigms can be very different from political paradigms. Florida is a perfect example. It’s a HUGE reason “liberals” hate Florida. Any evidence that a large group of supposedly marginalized citizens could choose personal accountability over entitlement throttles their entire ideological system.

+1 yThe Cuban Americans hate socialism because they are all too familiar with what their communist home country was like. And the Democratic Party continues to move further and further in the socialist direction. That’s why many latino Americans are voting Republican in that state.

+1 yWell, Florida hasn't had a Democratic governor in 22 years, has voted Republican in the last several elections, and is currently the playground of Ron DeSantis.
As far as the rest of the country is concerned, Florida is very, very red.15 Reply
Asker+1 yHow much of the state actually votes? It is much more libertarian than you think. If every adult American citizen in Florida votes and cares about politics cannabis would be legal there I promise you.
- +1 y
That may well be true; it's simply the perception of the state from elsewhere in the country that Florida is a red state.
I realize there are a lot of Democratic/Libertarian areas, just like most other states, but most people just consider the state as a whole, when forming their opinion.
Based on Florida's voting history, it's a red state, because that's how the state votes.
Asker+1 yI am saying it is a more fiscally conservative state. SC, GA (Not ATL), NC, TN, are much more Jesus loving.
- +1 y
I understand that, but you asked why people think Florida is a red state, and I explained why.
You don't have to try and prove to me otherwise; I am not arguing with you. I simply answered your question. I remember when Florida was a blue state, and a swing state, so I know the current political bias doesn't reflect the entire state.
However, as long as Florida continues to elect Republicans, it's going to be viewed as a red state. That's all.
Asker+1 yThe Democratic Party is still too fiscally left for FL. A low tax, pro gun, moderate state. Very diverse.
1.7K opinions shared on Society & Politics topic. 1. It didn;t have a Democratic governor since 90s.
2. Latinos are usually pro Demcorats, while Florida Latinos are strongly anti-socialism because most of them are Cubans, who are running away from Castro's socialism.
3. DeSantis, its governor, is very popular, even among some Democrats.
4. It's recently become more red, as you can see comparing presidential elections results from 2016 and 202000 Reply26.4K opinions shared on Society & Politics topic. The Spanish people are from Cuba and they have seen Socialism close up and know that they don't want it. There are less regulations and they have a Governor who is not afraid to prohibit Critical Race Theory and support the police.

Asker+1 yTons of Dominicans, Haitians, Puerto Ricans, also.
Asker+1 yThere is a little Haiti in Miami.
I've always thought of Florida as being a Purple state, more than anything. Florida, Ohio, Michigan, and Pennsylvania. But to answer your question, it's probably because of DeSantis.

Asker+1 yYeah I said FL is more conservative than the 2 most liberal states but compared to some other states Florida is centrist.
