He was a nationalist who wanted to make Japan strong, he also didn’t allow mass migration to happen in his country.
I think he was a true leader.
I'm not familiar enough with Abe's policies to speak to them, though I admire his stance to strengthen Japan's military and reform the US-centric constitution America left Japan with post-WWII. It's time to move on, and Japan may need to play a larger military role as America reaches its twilight years as a superpower.
I am very shocked and saddened by the assassination. It was certainly not something I expected to see in Japan. America, yes. Japan? Never.
I'm very surprised the shooter was able to get so close to Abe uncontested, too.
I hope it doesn't indicate a rise of gun violence in Japan.
Yeah, I know.
I just hope this one high profile shooting doesn't inspire a bunch of copycats or is indicative of, say, American shooting culture impacting Japan.
I don't know how many incidents there have been so far this year. So no idea if it's a statistical increase yet or not.
@goaded And very few stabbings as well, also, very few car accidents.
It's almost like the japanese are an ordered people.
Yet, he was killed with handmade guns. Clearly using them ain't hard considering someone of abe's stature wasn't safe from them.
Oh, and yeah, usually 8 out of 10 shootings are gang related everywhere, way more in most places.
Regarding Abe: www.thedailybeast.com/japan-shinzo-abes-government-has-a-thing-about-hitler-it-likes-him
"Two of Abe’s Cabinet appointees were associated with Japan’s Nazi Party and several of his comrades wrote laudatory blurbs for a book called Hitler’s Election Strategy, published in 1994, and written by a member of Abe’s Liberal Democratic Party (LDP). The book was banned after international criticism."
@goaded Yeah, you don't want to go down that path.
May I bring your hero, FDR, the man who did anything he could to let the nazis reign until public outcry was so loud he couldn't avoid it anymore?
Or, how almost any comparisons here in this article can be made of your allies to an Nth degree.
How CRT authors flirt with hitler so much, do I need to bring farakhan and the squad as well?
Oh, and how black indentitarians flirted so much with imperial japan, and even the nazis.
One thing we can say about this all is that you couldn't expect any persecution of jews in japan, you could here with your palls.
@anylolone Why don't I want to go down that path? If it's real, I'm OK with it.
I thought about asking the same question, but I figured someone else.
To be completely honest, I think nationalism is a cancer. It's good to a certain extent, but Japan took it to the extreme to the point where it became pure racism. You think he would welcome you in his country? I lost all respect for the Japanese. They hate anyone who doesn't look, talk and think like them.
Am I sad and angry he was assassinated, of course. But after learning about his policies I no longer have respect for him. He was a fanatical right winger, and I'm honestly not surprised someone wanted him gone.
One less radical nationalist isn't a bad thing.
I am surprised you say that.
After knowing on here for a few years you seemed pretty right wing.
What changed.
I think you misunderstand.
Japans politics is my ideal for nation states in a post globalist world.
A nation that is economically independent but also is a major participant in the world economy.
A nation that protects its culture but allows modern western influences.
A nation that doesn’t allow mass immigration and demographic replacements but allows tourists from around the world to visit.
I think if you or I went to Japan as tourists we would be welcome.
I've always been a Moderate Conservative. I'm sick of all the hypocrisy
I lose all respect for people who believe nationalism is a bad thing. 🤷♂️
@Agagagagaga I said extreme nationalism. I know ex Nationalists who now think it's stupid.
And tourists aren't necessarily treated good either
Okay, I'll be completely honest, I support White Nationalists, but I don't like Nationalists who hate White people.
But there are a lot of customs on those countries that have no place in 21st century society.
So you want Africa to stay impoverished, violent, racist and war torn?
You can still preserve certain traditions while at the same time embracing Western ideals that are good.
My issue with Japan is that it thinks of itself as "the model nation", when it is still backwards in many aspects. And they think they're normal, and it's everyone else who is strange. And they consider themselves highly intelligent, yet they are still extremely ignorant when it comes to other cultures.
Well, I agree with you on the first time. I just have a bad impression of them, because most of the nationalists I've met have been extremely hateful and hypocritical. I think you can be proud of your culture without putting down others, although there are some that deserve to be put down
My biggest issue with nationalists is they love to talk shit, but don't like shit talked about them. They should criticize themselves, before criticizing others.
I’m sincerely shocked since Japan isn’t famous for shootings or killings, it’s basically a very pacific country… so events like that are really shocking.
Plus, the killed man was a former prime minister (not an ordinary citizen), both loved and criticised for his politics… I never thought he could be assassinated, especially in such country.
Not much since i never heard of him I just wish the killer killed Macron instead.

I was actually surprised. I did not follow the news, but when I saw it, it said that he was shot and is on critical condition. Later in the day, dad told me Abe passed away.
I did not expect it from Japan, to be honest.
I don’t really know much about him, but it’s never a good thing when a human is shot and killed.
Political violence like that is destabilizing to society. I would not have expected it to happen in Japan, of all places. RIP, Mr. Abe.
*Assassination
And I think China did it.
He was a great statesman.
Probably they will make him into a minor kami.
It makes me sad. I liked him, in overall Japanese politics seems really enjoyable for me. LDP is a bit of point of reference for me.
Considering Japan's strong gun control I'm shocked. I thought lack of gun control was the problem with gun violence.🙃
Wish someone did the same to Biden.
I wouldn’t cry about it.
Guns are illegal in Japan, so it goes to show all how gun laws can fail.
association with whom?
do you mean "assassination"?
Never heard of him. Who is he associated with?
He will be missed.
Sad.
