Liberal or Conservative, would you want your political opponents to go away?

Politics are very heated these days. Let's say a scientist was able to come up with a wormhole (not unlike Stargate tv show) To a new world that he named Far Shore. It is a pristine wilderness very much like earth 20,000,000 years ago After the dinosaurs but before The rise of man. only animals no sentient beings.

A group rises up That wants people to go to this new world. The problem is after a few years this wormhole will collapsed and it will not be able to be reopened. but It provides an opportunity to separate Left & Right politics and avoid any civil conflict... Plus both sides will be able to Govern as they see fit. No more conservative standing in the way of progress and no more Leftist corrupting the country.

The side that goes in Will have a tough time, None of the Infrastructure is in place as here on earth... But It will be a chance to explore a new world A chance To build your self up with no 1 to hold you down. Staying behind provides its own benefit of safety But also entrenched problems.

Instead of getting rid of 'the other side', what should be done is to get rid of the sides, the two-party system in America.

I'm actually a centrist and libertarian above all. But the Right often pushes me to the side of the Left. It is more inclusive and less oppressive. (Take all the fertility bullshit, as of late, as example. The Right would force women to carry babies that are unwanted, and then not pay for them through social services.)

But I am not a joiner, and never have been. The more healthy way to conduct oneself is to not join forces, and to remain an independent thinker.

And by the way, I've seen proper (non-GAG) political polls, and the Right is far more "they should be swallowed up in a wormhole" than the Left is. The mistrust is more extreme by the Right.

I voted E because I'm not an idiot, and segregation is not the answer.

No, I wouldn't want them to go away or disappear. I would just prefer that everyone stops being so hostile with their beliefs just as "my" side should also.

It doesn't do anyone any good to be so mean to each other. It just creates further divide.

I lean right, but I don't think anyone is 100% left or right, unless you're in a cult. I'm conservative with some liberal values. And really a lot of liberal and conservative values are exactly the same... or at least supposed to be.

I'm still a bit new in politics, but I feel like we are not supposed to be "enemies." We are supposed to keep each other in check, because when the pendulum swings far enough either direction, things are bound to go wrong.

If the issue was a simple as liberal/conservative, the question would be easy enough to answer. And that answer would be a resounding "no".

But now, we have a force in our politics that is anti-democratic, anti-truth, and anti-science.

Our society has no room for folks who want to destroy it.

It is just that simple.

This is so weird. Because you can hold a lot of beliefs in our society. You can believe the poor should get nothing. You can be a racist. A sexist. A homophobe. You can be trans or you can be an environmentalist. You can be law and order or a flower picking hippie.

You can hold pretty much every belief under the sun.

But to believe that our democratic process needs to be overturned? That truth and fact do not matter?

No, because neither side is completely right or completely wrong. What bothers me is the polarisation of views. Can't we just pretend to be normal?
