My apartment owners FORCED all residents to make a portal to them to pay our rent, report maintenance issues, etc. Do you think this is fair?

People such as myself who aren't tech savvy don't know how to do this. I only have a small cellphone and no big computer to do this. The manager won't help us set it up, and they didn't have anyone come out here to train us.
This has caused me a considerable amount of stress that is actually making me sick.
Do they actually think people were born knowing how to make a portal to them with no training? I think it is abusive! One lady here had a heart attack from the stress of having to do this. I don't know to do 😰

Your local public library branch probably has someone who can help you with this. I know from what I’ve learned in library school that it is heavily focused on technology and things of this nature, so they should be able to train you how to do it for free.

Just tell them you're not going to do it, and if they want their rent, you'll happily give it to them by paper. But they can't force you to pay one specific way for the very reasons you listed. I'd escalate the issue to the city and tell them they're forcing something onto residents that not everyone can do.

(Although I do have to ask how you have a GAG account if you aren't tech savvy enough to do this online pay system.)

Does the city have an office that handles landlord disputes? Maybe you all go over there and complain.

They need to show people how to do that, unfortunately it’s progress and they are doing it everywhere, it’s annoying with doctors offices too

I don't see the issue. Paying online makes it far easier to pay rent.

What would really suck is if they used to have auto-pay for rent but then they got rid of that service without telling you and now you are months behind without even knowing it. I have had that happen before.

- It is far less secure and easier to security or mismanagement mistakes.
- It requires technology not everyone has or can use it.
- They provided no training or help with the issue.
- They seemed to have provided little time for people to get used to the new system.

Just because some people are lazy doesn't mean everyone should be forced to use the same system.

Unfortunately this is becoming more and more a reality. My mother refuses to become computer literate and this becomes increasingly a problem for her. Sorry technology isn't going away.
