Why is irony considered unacceptable in politics?

Small conference today because I had to explain my backing of light Covid restrictions effective tomorrow until the month of October.

People questioned, so I said - "I know that some people think that Covid has disappeared. They probably also think that Russians and Ukrainians are dancing together under a big rainbow in Ukraine; that we aren't on the verge of a third world war, and that fairies exists and pigs can fly" I then nodded towards the open window "I'm sorry, can someone please close the window? I'm afraid a pig might just fly in".

Someone laughed, someone stood up and walked out. Not everybody enjoys irony it seems.

Well you call it like you see it, and that's admirable. but it hurts some peoples feelings. you just made people who think covid isn't a problem and impacts them, feel like they are foolish.

you may have to temper your communications, or you can do like they do locally... edit their remarks after so they sound better written. you can re-communicate to soften the blow, by affirming their perspective, but saying you currently see the other side more favorable until conditions change

it's not easy being in power. you might want everyone to agree, but they never will and decisions have to be made.

plenty people getting covid, I only see it as a cold at this point. Not hearing of major hospital issues. are you going to do this with the flu as well or is covid still dangerous because it could mutate to something worse?

Well it made me laugh. I think I'd probably smile if I was there. Part of me would be thinking wow this guy has some guts.
