What are your thoughts on organ donation?

It's a subject I admit I never gave much thought until recent events. Here the law says that unless the donor has expressed their veto on donating after death, the relatives can make the decision. My sister never made such veto, and I greenlit for the harvesting of her organs, even though I wasn't sure what they would take given the date and cause of death.

It makes me feel slightly better to think that at least someone else's life could be saved thanks to this.

Where I live, if you want to be an organ donor, I write on the back of my driver's license with a good pen NO I DO NOT WANT TO BE AN ORGAN DONOR (even when I was young I said no to that).

The reason is because I know that it cost some money to treat you as a patient in the hospital.

Where as if they decide to let you pass away, they get a lot of money for transplanting several of your organs.

If you have it written on the back of your driver's license that you wish to be a donor, that's giving them permission to take your organs out and be a donor.

The driver's licenses used to have a box to check for yes, you want to be a donor. But for many years now, they only have a box for yes, and not one for no anymore. Anyone could get your driver's license in the hospital and check the YES box and who would know if you checked it, or if you left it blank anyone could check YES even if that's not what you wished for.

This is important because with COVID and other diseases popping up in America 🇺🇸, more people may get sick and have to go to the hospital.

Make it very clear if you want to be a donor or not to be one, even if you have to write it out clearly that you don't want to be a donor.

I'm a donar. As long as they make sure I'm 100% gone and not stuck in some deep sleep where u can feel and hear everything, then I'm fine with it. It be great to know I'm helping someone else. Then again I'm not sure if I should save it for my child? What if she needs a kidney in the future and we match? Mmm thats a tough one. Hopefully not and all will be well.

You're not taking anything physical where your going after death. So i am an organ donor. I got to figure out how if i die from crazy medical case to fully investigate what happened. Any educational purposes honestly would be cool to help out next generation of doctors. Get a free cremation to help my family expenses fuck yes.

Another thing to think about is that state's ask people when getting drivers or motorcycle license to be organ donors. Head trauma are common in lethal traffic collections that have higher organ donor availability (lacking a better way to phrase that statement.)

Future Autonomous ai driving as advertised will lower traffic accidents. While that is a good thing, getting organ donations will be impacted significantly with a lot of concern with future organ health care in tandem. Some spooky shit.

I've heard of cases where doctors are quick to declare you dead if you're an organ donor but not otherwise. Especially when it comes to declaring someone braindead. Cause it's EASY to do a sloppy test and say someone is braindead.

And in many countries around the world only the richest people get the organs. In some places they even execute prisoners **or** innocent people to get the organs.

Sounds shady to me since I don't trust random doctors in random hospitals just because they have a nice smile.

@Theabcking He is not a purebred cat but simply a domestc short haired cat. He was on the prperty when I moved in back in July 2018. He had been someone's pet at some time, as he let me pick him up and hold him. He prefers being outside during the day, and I want him to be happy, so I allow him his freedom. At night, or during bad weather, I let him come in and sleep on my back porch, whcih is enclosed and heated/cooled. He is a very well-mannered boy and the only rodents I have ever seen here were dead; he earns his keep.

I think in USA we register to be a donor on drivers license, otherwise I assume decision goes to the medical power of attorney. Who really knows what they do with the body though.

All of that are such big decisions and events in life. feel for you. At least there's some good that can come of it.

Life... is hard sometimes. Very sorry for the loss and hope can help someone else stay alive. I've heard stories of how someone gets a donor heart they can have memories from that other person. Fascinating, not sure that is proven, but some experiences were remarkable.

Here in Singapore, all healthy individuals who are non-muslim are automatically organ donors upon death, up to the age of 50.

I agree with that, honestly. Potential organ recipients are many, actual donated organs are few.

Of course, although you are automatically signed up, you can choose to manually opt out.

But for me, let my organs be a blessing to others who need them, should I pass untimely.

No. I disagree. It is their religious belief that organ donation and receiving is not favoured.

But their lives are equally important as ours, so if ther request to go against their own beliefs and receive an organ or even donate them, we will respect their choice.

The majority of transplants are not life-saving procedures. Most improve longevity and/or quality of life to some extent. I’m a donor. If someone can make use of my bits after my consciousness ends, it’ll be a better end than just rotting or getting embalmed.

If it wasn't for organ harvest like what is going on in china, ie people earning a living on others harm and death. I would see it as a good thing, So I think we need to start growing organs and remove the risk that dark forces target innocent people for their own gains.

The only way I could possibly ever be interested in donating my organs is if I know who my organs are going to, what kind of person they are, are they good, do they hurt people, etc. Sort of like a check list and that will never happen so no, again, not interested in my organs going to anyone

It is the ultimate act of selfishness to not donate organs. If I’m dead, they aren’t doing me any good! I’m borderline diabetic, so I’m not sure if my kidneys would be usable, but the doctors are free to take what they need and cremate the rest.

I've thought about donating my kidney before and maybe liver too. Blood, I definitely want to donate in the future. And If I have kids, I heard women can donate their eggs as well as the placenta from the birth.

I have a donor card, but honestly while I’d donate an organ in a heartbeat it’s the thought of it that scares me a little bit especially the heart, though I’d give my heart to someone who needs it but still the thought of not being here anymore scares me.
