Am I considered to be a millennial?

I was born in March 2000. I don’t feel as though I belong to Gen Z and it doesn’t make sense to me because 2000 (millennium) and millennial. I feel as though I grew up differently compared to a lot of Gen Z folks. Thank you in advance!

Its a little awkward and there isn't a definitive year. But you're safely in gen z.

Gen z usually starts a few years before 2000 depending. Again its just vague terms and no real rule for it. Anyone born after say, 1996 os safely in Gen Z.

Generations are typically decided by the media and people randomly agreeing.
So what would have happened is that someone went "Oh these people will grow up/see adulthood during the new millenium! They are... millenials!". And that happened in the 80s sometime.

Because generations typically last about 15 or so years by the time the 2000s actually swung around it was time for a new generation. And that's how it all worked out, more or less.

Of course it would make more sense if people born in say 2000-2009 or something were the millenials. But this isn't based on any exact dates and generations tend to overlap regardless so there's a sort of similarity there. To you who are inbetween the late millenial and early gen z it will always feel strange.

Gen Z will make you seem younger though. So eventually you'll proudly join that group.

no, you're not a milennial. i'm one. i think a millennial is anyone who had their early childhood around the 2000s. i think even the formal definition says that everyone born after 1993 or maybe 1996 at most is considered gen z
