Pytheas of Massalia (southern france) is said to have taken an exploration in 306 BC around the period the Greeks were setting up colonies all over the Mediterranean from Western Spain to the black sea and exploring, its said he lead an expedition to Britain and sailed to Iceland and then to greenland.

There may even have been Greeks in the Americas as far back as myceanean and minor times. The Romans and carthaganians may also have been aware of the Americas.

To me it seems very possible that ancient civilisations like the Greeks, carthaganians, Romans, Egyptians, Persians, Phoenicians, Chinese may have had knowledge of the Americas and that Italian Christopher Columbus along with sailors of the Knight's of Christ (Portuguese Templars) had been able to gain ancient knowledge through the Vatican, Byzantine, Muslims, Norse etc of a Continent to the west.

People dismiss the idea because their ships were designed for the calm waters of the med.
But As you rightly say they sailed to Iceland and right around Britain which even today is considered to be very difficult. So it's reasonable to assume they could have crossed the Atlantic especially when you consider there's a nice current just as you come out of the straight.

It's said in Columbus times sailors throughout Europe were already sharing stories of a large land mass to the west long before he landed. I suspect the odd Greek or roman boat did make it but they would have considered it too risky to bother keep crossing.

Doubt it.. To be clear, there is no firm evidence of the ancient Greeks' purported voyages. There are no known physical remains of these historic Greek settlements in North America, nor are there first-hand descriptions of such journeys in any accounts or sources from antiquity

It’s a much greater possibility than we are taught, especially forbrief visits as opposed to colonization. There is pretty strong evidence that Japanese landed in South America during ancient times. Some of the native tribes on the Pacific Coast made a Japanese style of pottery and can have a genetic disorder that is otherwise only found among the Japanese.

As far as am concerned, if there were any true discoverers of America, it would be the native Americans. They were the first to settle on that land. Any other stories after that, doesn't impress me and it is a false narrative.

I believe it. I know how Erik the Red discovered Grønland in circa 978, but as many assume Cristoforo Colombo did it in the 15th century, and are wrong, possibly the ones reckoning Erik did are also wrong.
