In San Francisco, the City council is debating whether or not to allow police to use robots that can kill. They would require authorization from a police chief, and they would not be autonomous. Still, history tells us that when the police have a tool that works, they tend to use it more and more, and often inappropriately. For that reason, I am not in favor of this. What do you think?
One argument in favor of using police robots that can kill is that they can potentially reduce the risk of injury or death to law enforcement officers and civilians. For example, robots could be used in situations where there is a high risk of violence or where it is not safe for officers to enter a location.
