I believe that it is important to treat everyone in a good way. If there are people who try to make fun of you (in a friendly way), you should still be kind to them no matter what.

People seem to be surprised when I am gentle and kind to these people.

because most people get treated like shit, so when someone does something nice you aren't used to that behavior or you didn't expect it. things like that don't happen too often in most peoples lives or day to day life. most just care about themselves and their own path.

I'd say that's because often people that do something for you, expect something in return.

I too am guilty of wondering what someone is trying to get out of me when they are nice to me and I don't know them too well.

Men are surprised because we rarely get compliments or have random nice things done for us, so we may even be suspicious when it happens.
