Life in prison without parole seems a lot worse to me. Imagine being locked in a cell which is basically a small room for 20 hours or more each day for the rest of your life.

In my experience, only the worst of the worst are locked in a cell for 20 hours a day. A lot of prisons only keep inmates locked in cells at count times and at night. The rest of the time, their cells are unlocked and they are permitted to be in common areas. If they are not working, they can hang out and play games.
Christians believe that only god can decide how people are punished and it says in thr bible that anyone who tryes to enforce their own punishment on others will burn in hell for eternity unless they repent.
I personally don’t believe in god, heaven and hell. I just believe life in prison without parole is worse than the death penalty. Also prisoners in prison are surrounded by other criminals. That sounds like punishment as well.
Life in prison? Great. You get to have a hobby, read all you want. Charles Bronson, England’s notorious lifelong criminal who has spent 50 years behind bars, mostly in his own cell, has developed as an artist. Apparently his paintings are quite popular. He gets loads of mail, daily, and he’s quite comfortable in prison. In fact he’s so institutionalized he can’t even be released back out into the real world. He’s been in too long. And he’s violent. 🤷♂️
Do you think he’s really suffering? He’s having the time of his life.
