It would make me feel better seeing a hard core criminal spend life behind bars without parole than put to death.
Life in prison is definitely worse than death.
When you’re dead you have to worry about nothing.
When you are alive in prison it’s much worse. You have to live around other violent criminals, locked in a cage for more than 12 hours per day and the thought of never being able to go to the beach, movies, hotels or holiday must be hard.
It also cost the tax payer $35,347+ a year. to feed, house, and imprisson someone forhowever long they leave.
If you simply change the law and force the court's to apply the burden of proof equally in all cases the Death Penalty costs a tiny fraction of that amount.
People like @OddBeMe and others who site that figure of Death Penalty are being very dishonest in claiming we are paying for the Penalty rather than our arbitrarily and very unequal standard of evidence imposed by our court system.
It is murder by groups like abortion. Choose life never death.

I love how the left always comes up with an argument against the death penalty saying it is so expensive. The reason is so expensive is because THEY throw in all kinds of monkey wrenches to screw up the system to make it that way.
Well guess what? There is no price tag on maintaining a safe country. The number one job of government, and arguably the only legitimate job of government, is to keep citizens safe from foreign invasion and from criminals within. And the Democrats are doing NEITHER, yet have managed to spend more of the citizens' money since they got power than any other two year period in US history.
Screw that. You commit a violent crime, you die. Makes perfect sense to me. We need to clean up the sewer.
This maggot that that hero killed on the NY Subway last week beat up a 67 year old woman and gave her brain damage. He kidnapped and assaulted a 7 year old girl. He was arrested over 40 times. If the damn Democrats won't get this mutant off the streets then we need more heroes like this brave Marine who will. He probably saved lives that day and now HE is the enemy according to these stupid lefties. If that subhuman animal didn't want to die, he shouldn't have threatened to kill people. Is that asking too much?
PS the same is true of that George Floyd asshole who broke into a pregnant BLACK WOMAN'S house with a gang of his fellow marauders and held a gun to her belly telling her he would murder her baby and her if she screamed while the other mutants ransacked her home looking for drugs and money (they didn't find any). The only reason I think that animal was mistreated is that he didn't get the death penalty sooner.
You commit a violent crime, you get the death penalty. Oh what a terrible violation of justice!
The death penalty may or may not deter these mutants from committing their first violent crime. But it sure as hell with deter them from committing their second one!
"It certainly doesn’t stop crime "
Oh really? How many murderers have committed another murder after they were executed?
I favor the death penalty only where it can be 100% proven who did the murder. Like video evidence or something of that nature. Can’t bring an innocent person back from the dead, so there’s no way to fix such an error.
However in cases where it can be absolutely proven who the murder is, no 15 appeals over a 35 year period.
Also no lethal injections. Hang ‘em or firing squad. Do it publicly for as many who want to attend so they can see 1. Fitting justice is administered, and 2. A reminder of what will happen to those who are found indisputably guilty of murder.
For those found indisputably guilty of many murders, like serial killers I favor public crucifixion. Let the punishment fit the crime.
Basic logic tutoring session: we can never ever never be 100% sure about anyones guilt. We can’t be 100% sure this world isn’t happening in Trump’s head and we’re just NPCs.
So there can’t be “absolute guilt” only probably. And probability will never be zero. So innocent people will die for your death penalty belief.
"I have a quest for you"
@odd
Well if there is no irrefutable proof, then I object to the death penalty. Frankly I the concept of being executed…and truly being innocent to be appalling. Not only are you dead, not only did it affect your loved ones, but it can’t be fixed and likely your name will be forever blackened for something you didn’t even do. A person can be released from jail, but the dead can’t be made alive. I’d rather error on the side of caution. To me I find it unacceptable that the innocent may die in such circumstances. So I think it best to lock them up for life as opposed to risking error and accidentally executing the innocent. Either way, at least the guilty party will pay dearly, and on the off chance the person is innocent, at least their lives can be restored as much as possible.
@Exterminatore I’m a conservative that believes in very strong penalties but I disagree with the death penalty. I believe no man has the right to take another man’s life.
Except, it isn't.
The death penalty is more for the family/relatives of the victim to get closure, than the general public to feel "safe" or "better".
What you're also forgetting is that states who have given up the death penalty now opt instead to give victim compensation. So not only do you get a jackass in jail for the rest of his or her life; but you also get the pleasure of paying the family of his victim (s) from the public purse as well. Only if they are White of course. Few Blacks/Hispanic qualify.
Death Penalty
The death penalty is a crime committed by the society against a single individual, who is helpless. I cannot call it a penalty, it is a crime.
And you can understand why it is committed: it is a revenge. Society is taking revenge because the man did not follow the rules of the society; the society is ready to kill him. But nobody bothers that when somebody murders it shows that man is psychologically sick. Rather than sending him to imprisonment or to be executed, he should be sent into a nursing home where he can be taken care of – physically, psychologically, spiritually. He is sick. He needs all the compassion of the society; there is no question of penalty, punishment.
Osho
What would make me feel better is if they didn't allow these people to sit on death row while these people waste taxpayers money to appeal there case. Their room, board and medical care cost a lot of money. I absolutely think they should bring back the electric chair, which was invented by a dentist. Those people that criminals murdered did not have a choice to die humanely. Don't tell me well God will punish that person at the end. That is of no comfort to a family who has been torn apart because of a heinous act.
i chose no but it needs an explanation. if they did the crime then yes for death. but if you don't know then no. i realize that a lot of innocent people died but we are past that. I hope they sued the shit out of the government (i mean the taxpayers)!
as for prison... i've never been. i would assume it's awful. death is too quick. plus, death is always around the corner in prison. i think prison life sentences are enough.
Death penalty is what makes you think before committing horrible crimes.. when you can murder and torture multiple people and you know you'll be physically untouched just spend the rest of your life in prison, you know.. ALIVE... Then those horrible crimes become just things happening...
Research has shown that it doesn’t matter. Probably like the estate tax where everyone believe they’lol be wealthy one day…all criminals probably think they’ll never be caught.
Either way research is rock solid; death penalty doesn’t deter crime. Just basic info from the 90s:
deathpenaltyinfo.org/.../murder-rate-of-death-penalty-states-compared-to-non-death-penalty-states
The only reason the Death Penalty isn't a mere tiny fraction of the cost of paying $35,347+ a year for the rest of their life to imprison them is the artificial cost imposed by the court.
We are perfectly capable of killing and burying someone for a less than a few thousand dollars.
As such it is extremely dishonest to even pretend the Death Penalty is no the least expensive option.
Our corrupt court system is arbitrarily astronomically expensive.
It has a zero % recidivism rate. No more prisoner on guard violence. We need more of it.
It's not expensive to execute someone. It's the 40 years they spend on death row that's so expensive.
Low frequency event, especially post-DNA. People die from drug trials. We still "do medicine." There's 8 billion people in the world. We aren't an endangered species.
It's a rarity since the development of modern DNA tests.
330,000 people die each day. You want me to have empathy for each of them separately or can I combine them together to save time? Why are these rare modern occurrence ones more worthy than the other ones who die?
That's not all it's used for.
Consider Malaysia. If you get caught with drugs, the punishment is the death penalty. Because the risk is too great, they don't have drug problem. So it serves as a deterrent as well
It wouldn't be more expensive if we reduced the right of appeal that people on death row have. It takes years of paperwork to gain authorization to put a person to death. Whether it can deter crime is open to debate and would need to be studied in the context of countries like China who use it more freely, not in the US where most criminals can expect to die of old age before actually being put to death.
Which is why we should bring back hanging, firing squads, or the guillotine. Much more cost effective.
👊 Pound it
No, it’s just because that’s what that monster deserves. I would say it’s unjust to keep somebody in prison for the rest of their lives just end it who cares the criminals anyway.
Probably but that’s because we don’t have insective structures that prevent crime. Saudi Arabia basically has no crime. Why because of the very harsh punishments dolled out, you steal the hand you stole with is gone. You murder your publicly executed. Stoning is still an execution method there. So there practically no crime in Saudi Arabia. The harsher are your punishments are the less crime you have
Oh absolutely worth it. I've even written to my Senator flat out stating I'll do them for free if they'll keep the government off my back. Bullets are cheap.
For it. Cost effectiveness probably nowhere near the amount it takes to house every felon that isn't given the death penalty.
Have not, don't care to. Bottom line in my eyes, death penalty shouldn't cost jack.
Like I said, don't give two shits. Shouldn't cost a dime to take out a scumbag.
Some freaks need to die. And all rapists and child molesters should be put to death. Anyone who says otherwise is defending rape and child abuse.
Not that I by any means seek to excuse rapists or child molesters, but that is not just. An eye for an eye is the standard. Since they have not taken life, theirs should not be required of them.
I think it would be better served to break out the Roman Flagrum and whip them to a bloody pulp, but alas, the law does not permit cruel and unusual punishment. Not that I find it cruel or unusual to do so to such vile creatures.
@Exterminatore no, murder is a far less crime. There are tons of different reasons for killing someone, self defense, mental illness, accident, premeditated, revenge. Tons of different factors. Rape and child abuse has only one factor, these people will ruin someone's life forever for five minutes of pleasure. They are the worst criminal. The worst most disgusting and most dangerous people. Kill them all.
@tracy
I’m not necessarily disagreeing with, as I am a victim of sone of the things you mentioned.
I’d see it as being more just to leave them physically injured and equally as traumatized as their victims. An eye for an eye, a tooth for a tooth, a life for a life and a rape for…. well you can’t punish a criminal with a rape for a rape so filet their backs open with a whip then. Extreme pain and traumatization, just like they did to their victims. I see this as being more equal. More just.
Not that some rapist or child molesters death would bother me.
Yes, a murder victim would be dead and not have to deal with the consequences for the rest of their lives, so in an odd way it may be more humane, however the unjustified taking of a life is the worst crime I can imagine.
@Exterminatore but it is justified. And to do you you'd have to be an absolute evil person. Why should you want someone who destroyed a persons life for five minutes of pleasure to live? Life is valuable because of potential. Potential to do good and influence other life's in a positive way. Stop defending rapists and child molesters. Their life's are worthless, the only potential they have is to rape more people. And continuously that is proven, countless times. They go to jail, pay their bail, kidnap a child, get caught, and repeat. Eye for eye justice is stupid, involuntary manslaughter can't be punished with the same thing, we don't base punishment from solely the crime, but also intent. Rape is the only crime with one intent, and that intent is the most evil. The only other intent like it are serial killers. Both should be executed. Grow up, some people need to die to protect the innocent.
In most cases I'm against it, but yet the thought that Ted Bundy isn't growing old sitting around beating off to the memory of the girls he killed does make me feel better.
I don't think it's cost effective and does not act as a deterrent so it is purely down to retribution which has some meaning to some but not to me.
The death penalty prevents repeat offenses/offenders 100%. I feel better about that.
I support the death penalty, but it should only be considered in appropriate premeditated cases where there is video and/or DNA evidence. Otherwise it's life in prison.
The main reason why it costs so much to the time it takes from sentencing to execution. There have been inmates on death row for decades. One year max should be the target.
it does stop crime. The person that gets the death penalty is almost sure not to reoffend.
but it doesn't deter others from committing murder.
Justice should be rehabilitation, not revenge.
That being said, if someone kills my mom I'm still going to want to tear their insides out.
It's actually about punishment. Stopping crime is for police.
No. Punishment is a consequence for bad action. You murder someone you go to jail for life not to teach you not to murder someone but for justice for the victim.
Punishment: the infliction or imposition of a penalty as retribution for an offence.
Some crimes are so heinous that the perpetrator's continued existence is an affront to civilisation.
It’s about accountability. You kill, you get killed. And yes, that does deter future crimes.
Problem is making things costly
Just let Robert Maudsley roam the wing, job done
What Robert Maudsley or the cost,
See historically many places didn't have death rows, you'd be tried and then executed inside the week
You have crack a few eggs to make an omelette, they'll be back to it under plan 2030
I know the death penalty is a hell of a deterrent for me.
Yes..
It is ok
