Just Wondering! If men are traditionally considered better drivers, then how come we pay less in car insurance (as a general rule) than they do? I understand that with life insurance we pay less (at the same age) because we live longer. Why car insurance though?
u Men are technically better drivers, yes, but that's technically misleading.
Men generally, but not always, have a better innate sense of spatial positioning. This allows us to have a better feel for where other vehicles are, in relation to our own.
As a result, we have fewer minor accidents than women (fender benders, minor scratches, dings, bumps in a parking lot, hitting the curb, etc), things that don't generally cost insurance companies too much.
However, men are also, traditionally, much more aggressive when driving, and take stupid risks, especially younger men, where the difference in insurance costs is more pronounced. We cause less accidents, overall, but the ones we do cause are typically much worse, and thus more costly, than women's.
That, coupled with the fact that men drive more miles, overall, than women, makes us more risky, and more costly, to insure.
Pragmatism. It's not about who causes more accidents, it's about who causes more insurance company payouts. Why do you think they check your credit score? That has nothing to do with how you drive. They do it to1. prove the efficiency of relying on correlative logic, and 2. drive away the people who don't have credit scores because they don't tolerate extortion (which is what credit is; anyone else collecting information on you without your knowledge or permission and offering to sell it to you to see if it's correct would go to prison), since such people are WAY more likely to contest abuse on their parts.
Statistically women make more often small accidents which cost less, while men make per capita less accidents but much more costly.
Generally men drive often expensive vehicles like trucks, farming machines, industry vehicles... it's logical rapiers of those vehicles cost often hundred of thousands, while a parking accidents (classic among girls) cost few hundreds.

Because it has nothing to do with quality of driving. There are far less women drivers on the road, hence the risk is lower. But obviously this is just a statistic, as women have been on the road far less than men.
Because trationally doesn't mean its actually so.
