Yes, Biden has done a lot in two years. Too bad none of it was good for Americans. There are a few democrats that might replace him. Kamela is in line for the job. The problem is she is hated even more than Biden is. Gavin Newsome is another. He has driven California off a cliff so he could probably do the same for the whole country. Pete Buttegeig is interested. He could not even run a small city but he would be the first gay president so he would fit right in with the democrats. Then maybe Sandy Cortez would like the job. She has no grasp of economics or reality either for that matter. She would be the perfect candidate. At least she can mix a decent martini.

Biden receives medical tests all the time like any president. And the reports are that his mental state is great. The problem with falls comes from his arthritis. You can see the trouble with his gait. It is hard for quick movements such as recovering balance when his foot is caught on something. This latest fall was due to his foot catching on a sandbag that was there to brace part of the stage they were on. Those of us without arthritis could easily move our feet quickly to recover balance without falling. As he said later to someone who asked about the fall, "I was sandbagged."

Probably not much. It prevents quick catches when he is tripped, but he is still very physically active. Bicycle riding, jogging, etc. Much more physical activity that the lump who rides a cart everywhere.

That’s funny I just posted a similar question. I got more into in my post but the question is are we allowed to laugh at this. Say you bonk your head and a low hanging over hang your wife will laugh at you, not because she hates you or wants you to suffer but you bonking your head is funny because your not seriously hurt. But if you bonk your head on that low over hang and you start bleeding or get knocked out she wouldn’t be laughing she would be trying to stop the bleeding and if you need stitches drive you to a hospital. Remember Jerold Ford fell down and was perfectly fine. And Chevy Chase Martin incessantly. So for you democrats this becomes serious is Biden going to fall and break his hip next? My grandma broke her hip at 83 and was dead 2 weeks later. Biden is 80 what is your backup plan?

I read somewhere that the "fall and break your hip" thing tends to be the other way around; the brittle hip breaks, so you fall down. The backup plan is the VP, I suppose. Has a president ever died while running for re-election before?

As far as the president dying, while running for reelection no there hasn’t been. There been 4 presidents that died of natural causes. William Henry Harrison died of pneumonia within three months of his presidency. Zachary Taylor died a year into his presidency. Warren G Harding died two years into his presidency. FDR died after he was reelected in 1945 Fourth term January 20, 1945 – April 12, 1945

Lincoln was assassinated in his second term only serving a few months

Garfield was assassinated in his first year

McKinley was assassinated in his first year

Kennedy was assassinated in his second year

The one that was close to being assassinated during a campaign was Teddy Roosevelt and it would’ve been his third term when he was running for the bull moose party against William Howard Taft, and Woodrow Wilson. Teddy Roosevelt was such a bad ass he got shot right before he was about to give a speech, and while the bullet was still in him, he gave the speech. Then went to the hospital. (Couple of fun facts not only was William Howard Taft our fattest president. He was also the only president to serve as president and vice president and serve on the Supreme Court as well) .

I assume there's a procedure in place for when a candidate dies to allow someone else to take their place? The alternative would be an open invitation to assassinate the opposition candidate!

@goaded I don’t think we have a procedure in place because it’s never happened. I would assume that the runner up would take the place if the leading candidate was assassinated. Like say if Biden was assassinated (obviously for now Harris would take his place) but I think Robert Kennedy JR would be up for the nomination Harris isn’t going to run against her boss. And the other 2 running for the democratic are Joe exotic (Tiger King and yes he’s running from prison) and Marianne Williamson. Although I’m pretty sure we’re going to see a Gavin Newsom attempt for the White House on the Democrat side. Republicans we pretty much have a 2 person race. Even though I like Vivak Ramaswamy I doubt he’s gonna get much votes, it’s pretty much boiled down to Trump or DeSantis so I’m probably going to be voting for DeSantis in the primary

So, is there a window for an assassination (or even natural death) that one party wouldn't have a candidate for the voters to elect? That sounds like a terrible loophole. The kind that Trump would like to exploit.

Even having to write in your preferred candidate would be a massive advantage to the other side.

Again this hasn’t happened before so I have no idea where, talking the true definition of unprecedented. I don’t like Joe Biden I voted for Trump twice and maybe if Desantes doesn’t win I’ll vote Trump a third time. Beyond partisan politics I have no idea what would happen. we’re talking an unprecedented situation here so all I can do is speculate.
