How many US citizens will willly let Congress sign our rights away for guns?

President FDR was the first to start gun control and that violated the second amendment and the people then let it happen. Then background checks and people let it happen.

See folks what I'm saying is. They are going to get our guns one way or another.

Keep in mind it don't matter who you vote for. You can vote Republican or Democrat and the same shit going to happen.

They already banned drugs. They banned murder too for that matter. The government banning something still has to be complied with, and I don't see any but a certain part of the population complying with that. Those people wouldn't have been very helpful in the situation anyway. It would take a house to house search to be effective, and the people down the street would start thinning out the herd before the got there. Can't hit every house at once. At the start of any such op, send bachelors.

Ban all guns tomorrow... you going to lock up half the population? Where? How long? Who's going to do it? Body armor is expensive when you're having to replace it at every third house. And that's assuming you can A) get enough LEOs to try it, B) there are move volunteers than extra rounds and C) how motivated are they to continue when the better weapons come out?

@John_Doesnt I hit that too. Actual sentencing. 3 strikes on gangs and firearms, mandatory 20 years for a gang crime, lower the age of adult culpability from 15 to 12. Get rid of gangs you cut the gun crime in half. I don't want to reduce handgun suicides so that's moot. Rando "mass shootings" are statistically not in the top ten things likely to kill me.

Our criminal justice system is a joke. You have people with 30+ felonies walking around. I don't care if it's felony check kiting they need to be in the ground. And (again) extend qualified immunity to anyone who shoots an active felon so the family can't sue.

@John_Doesnt Ever been to the southwest? we have plenty of places for more jails, we just need to give up this daycamp model and do like Iran, 100 people per 70sqft, they can sleep in shifts. When you look at the guns being used time and time again the data doesn't support that. I picked up a gun with over 100 crimes on it once. Just gets passed around gangland sold to pawnshops rebought, numbers filed off, sold on the streets time and time again for less money (since it's dirtier every time) and eventually you get a guy paying $10 for it. You think a guy that buys a gun for $10 behind a 7-11 is a good person?

@John_Doesnt Some of those countries' citizens were peaceful and didn't have anything but hunting rifles and shotguns. Maybe an old pistol or two. Who was a citizen of Germany going to buy guns from? They were tightly controlled and then, eventually banned. If you were caught with one you were dead. Also, when guns were banned the governments went on killing sprees and killed all the dissidents or their enemies.

They're not going to ban guns. The bill of rights protects that as an fundamental American right.

Now they might restrict it. It is your right to have a gun to protect yourself. But unless you're defending yourself from zombie hordes you don't need an assault rifle to protect yourself. And if you're worried about protecting yourself from zombie hordes then gun control probably shouldn't be your biggest concern, mental health should be.

If the govt goes fully totalitarian and evil, your guns won't help. The military has better guns - and no totalitarian regime survives without the support of the military.

There are some situations where having guns makes it difficult on an oppressive govt - but only when that govt has limits on what they are willing to do. If the government IS willing to pry your cold dead hands off your gun, the gun doesn't help much

@richardcory Actually, you would be surprised. In all too many revolts, all that is needed to be done is to make the costs of crushing the rebels too expensive, and the government comes to some kind of peace accord instead.

Take Northern Ireland for example. A relatively small band of lightly armed malconents managed to tie down a rather powerful army, and force negotiations until enough of the discontented people were pleased (The Good Friday Accords of a generation ago).

@Curmudgeon In Northern Ireland, the UK cared about public opinion. Same with the US trying to control Iraq, and Afthanistan. In all those places the army could have easily crushed the resistance - if they didn't care about how many civilians they killed in the process. The french resistance made things difficult for the Nazis but they would have lost if the US, UK etc didn't defeat the german military

That is, once they have the board or council or whatever in place to decide what books to ban, it's not like they are going to unemploy themselves once they run out. they will eventually want to ban the books that might suggest life would be better without the council or board or whatever. And quite a lot of those books are history books. So, you get attacks on CRT, black history, etc, because those are the ones that showed what people could write when there was a time that no one was trying to stop them.
