I grew up in the suburbs of Los Angeles near the coast. I spent a lot of time in the city where there are amazing attractions, but I wouldn't want to live in a city. I always loved nature, farms, and rustic, whimsical towns.
My wife and move to where we are 21 years ago. We live in a rural area on 30 acres of oak grassland. Our house is on a hillside, just below the snow line, with an amazing view.
There are a couple of small, dynamic, historical, touristy towns 20 minutes up the hill, and a small city with all the modern conveniences 20 minutes in the opposite direction. Most necessities like, gas, a large mini-mart, mechanic and post office, are within 5 minutes. A big city is 45 minutes away and Sacramento is just over an hour.
I freaking LOVE the quiet and privacy of my home with our small orchard, gardens, birds and wild animals. There are no bears or mountain lions.
So I'll take somewhere quiet and beautiful as long as I have easy access to necessities and can go to nearby cities for other things.
I take practicality over anything. So much so I would rather live in a shitty location but is right next to the centre. It only takes 10mins from my dads to get into the city.
I would hate to live somewhere without such assess even if it's a nicer location.
Also I don't want to ever waste money on car so this is the best way to do it. As I highly see cars as been useless here, even if I was on the far edge of my area it would still only be 40mins by bus to get into the centre or even less if you get a fast bus. So I see no need for cars.
I am a city girl who enjoys village life every now and then.
But I was born and raised in the capital city of my country and have always felt happy and comfortable in crowded places.
Even now I live in a huge city. That’s even bigger population wise than my country.
But I have a village back in my country and that was my mind palace, my getaway place, my mom moved away there from a city and she lives relatively peacefully, but she’s constantly the topic of gossipy mouths. So both have advantages and disadvantages.
I am a city girl who can get along with a quiet village life pretty well as well. I am flexible.
After living in populated areas for all of my life, my husband and I bought a large property in the country. Let me tell you, it was the best decision we made. We can still get to the city in 45 minutes on most days.

I prefer a rural setting that is not too inconvenient to the city.
Somewhere quiet and peaceful in the outskirts sounds relaxing but then the real problems start bothering you.
I know it's not the same everywhere, but my personal experience has been horrible. If you need anything - travel at least 10-15kms - hospitals, clinics, supermarkets anything. Another problem that I faced was that services are poor in the outskirts as compared to the main cities. Frequent power cuts, terrible network, lack of drinkable water, if something breaks down, you have no one who can fix it immediately.
I agree that it's not the same everywhere, but living isolated and separated from everyone has its own troubles.
Im a village guy who lives nowadays in the big city but sometimes I just miss staying in a quiet place and enjoy nature... Thas why my holidays I go back to the countryside and enjoy a simple life there. When I moved to the city to be in college after 10 months I felt so sad and I missed so much my village next to the coast that when I came back i teared up when I smelled the salt of the sea
I don't wanna be in the city but, in a fairly populace area where I have access to stores and buses that can take me where I need to go. Like, where I WAS living until my fucking ex-sisters had me evicted from my own house so they could sell it and get more money they didn't deserve!!
Being here in a quiet area is nice, to a degree but, it's VERY lonely and I can't go anywhere without someone to drive me!! There's only ONE bus and it NEVER EVER shows up on time!! It's ALWAYS AT LEAST half an hour late!!
I live in a small town that is in bike distance to a city that has everything I need. The city in on itself isn't big either but I dont need bigger.
I prefer a mix of the two... fairly quiet but within easy access of what I need. I live in the suburbs and that's pretty much what I have. Stores are on the main road a 5 minute drive (or 15 minute walk) away.
I'm a city kid. I'm even thinking it's a psychological defect these days. I like being able to meet new people all the time and constantly go to new places and do new things and meet brand new people. I don't like being surrounded by familiar faces all the time unless they're my close friends or family.
Thank youuuu
Several people in my family have had medical emergencies. The immediate access to medical help causes me to go with populated. And where I work I see ambulances travelling in from the coast about daily, plus expensive helicopter transport often.
I grew up in a farm. Lived in the city for 30 years. Now in the quiet place…and can get to the city in an hour.. I am living in a great place…I can live anywhere…doesn’t bother me.
I grew up in a big city, and now I live in the country. I much prefer the quiet life of the country.
Grew up out in the boonies, been living the city life for a while now and definitely missing the peace and quiet
Give me the back woods, with a cabin on a riverbank.
I am and strong introvert. I prefer to be away from society and their stupidity. I also like the solitude. I love being in the mountains away from society.
I want to live somewhere that is quiet but accessible to the things I need. I like living in the outskirts of a big town. I'm in a pretty quiet neighborhood but everything I need is 15 minutes away
Secluded so that I can be a fully fledged naturist at home and not have to worry about offending neighbours lol 🤣
I choose the city because it was where I was raised and also if I ever need anything late at night the pharmacies are 24 hour and take out places are open till as late as 4AM
I live 30 minutes from the nearest city and love it
I live in the country where it’s quiet an peaceful. For me, big cities are just for visiting.
Somewhere more populated, I'm a loner person so in a populated place at least no one notices you, meanwhile in a smal quiet place every one does and talk about you too.
I live in a pretty small town but it has plenty of stores and restaurants. There is even a new movie theater
A mix of both worlds. I like small community type cities like Boise, Idaho where it's not too big.
I like the quiet, but I also enjoy a place that's busy with people.
The city. Quite depends if I see people walking round all the time.
I prefer to live in a city, where I have access to anything I need.
I'd go with the first one if I wasn't too far from whatever I needed.
far enough away from people to make it nice but not too far where ice cream will melt if i bought it at the grocery store in town.
be nice to have access to both, quiet at night but the bussle of the city when you want it.
Fucking GAG mobile site. You scroll through posts and if your thumb hits a wrong spot, you end up having answered a poll, and that too an option you would not have chosen.
I have pointed out this problem so many times on GAG.
My preference is to live in a small city, like where I live now.
How do nearly 70% not want to live in the city with all the amenities right there? I just don't get the appeal of the boonies.
What do you prefer?
@cyclingkmi the city, obviously. Smack dab centre too
I actually live in a quiet area but within 10 minutes of everything I need.
Because if you need a hospital its nearby if you need to buy food its in you're hands😊
I have both. I live in the country and its a 5 minute drive to a city of 100,000 and a 45 minute drive to a city of several million.
Quiet and secluded, it's one of the things I love about living in the countryside
I prefer to live in a small town which provide both benefits and which is near a big city too
Somewhere quiet but still close to a city!
Why not in a big populated city?
I like to liive in a quiet place and have access to everything
Peace & quiet like where we live now. We can always drive to the store.
I grew up somewhere quiet. I prefer that.
Hate cities. No personal space. Too many people.
I like rural but sometimes it’s scary
Ya scary , depressing and non glamorous
Somewhere in between would be ideal for me.
Definitely quiet
id rather live in the mountains off grid
I prefer peace and quiet.
Wouldn't it be boring and depressing?
I live in a town with nothing but weirdos and unhappy highly educated losers with no life. The town is only a few miles long. I prefer the city for sure.
If i could, both
Somewhere nice and quiet.
Prefer to live in a city with something going on
Something going on means?
@cyclingkmi with a lot of daily activity around me
I prefer a quite neighborhood
Edge of town like I do now
I live in the suburbs but 5 mins away is farmland.
its a smallish town with older buildings. The church in the town was built in 1890.
Def quiet like in the mountains!
I choose secluded and quiet 11 times out of 10.
In a safe, red city with lots of cops.
I prefer the quiet
Get me out of this concrete hell.
Quit for sure.

Quiet.
Mostly like that now
