Am I the only one who thinks "pride month" is a way too much?

like we have 1 day of pride for independence of the country. one day of pride for the emancipation of the races. one day for pride of our spiritual ancestors. and an entire month cause you're proud to be so special that no generalized way to describe sex applies to you? what the fuck is this? who approved this nonsense and why is nobody actively opposing that narcissist circle jerk?

and why is it that media makes it looks as if straight people were a sad little minority?

Well, I cannot speak for everyone - as the month has obviously been suffused in about as much media noise on the subject as if it were a national crisis - but your point is well taken. It has been too much, and more to the point, the month itself is based on a faulty premise.

In an age filled with empty gestures, this is just another one. Once upon a time, pride was rooted in what an individual or group accomplished. Now, increasingly, it is rooted in a sense of grievance and self-pity. Suffice to add that such qualities are hardly anything to be proud of in any meaningful sense.

Thus in due course, "pride month," which no one had heard of last year, will in the fullness of time go down the memory hole. It will be treated with all the solemnity of Arbor Day or Columbus Day save for those few who will use it to nurse their sense of grievance. Regardless of whether such sense is rooted in anything more than the emotional catharsis that comes from feeling aggrieved.

There are plenty of people who think it's ridiculous. I believe you would call that Christianity. Literally, Pride is a deadly sin. I don't think there's anything inherently wrong with being gay, but the idea of pride past the repealing of laws against sodomy is ludicrous.

Like how fucked up would it be if I shouted from my roof how proud I am to pound my wife every day for a month, then walked up and down the street banging a drum and yelling at kids about how great it feels?

I think everyone is sick of pride month. First target had to start it off with their huge pride collection for children. Then Adidas has to pop in with their women’s swimsuits that are modeled by men. And don’t even get me started on all the pride commercials. I just want it to end. Between pride month, LGBTQ history month, and whatever November is considered now (trans-month or something) plus various other individual days like "trans parent recognition day," there are over 100 holy days in the queer calendar. It's completely out of control.

One day for homosexual pride is the most this group should ever feel entitled to.
