If you identify as a woman or as a man, what are you identifying?

I’m not asking this to be combative. I’m genuinely curious bc as a born female myself, I do not think “im a woman therefor I am xyz and I do abc”. I just am me. And some of my proclivities & behavior seems to be common and some seems to be controversial, culturally. I imagine it’s he the exact same if I were born male, bc we are all different and no person is just like another just bc I’d their sex.

So it perplexes me (tho I have no problem responding to people as however they are fit) what people are referring to when they say “a woman who’s an adult who identifies a woman” this doesn’t tell me what the idea of a woman is.

I can easily accept the ‘identifying as a woman’ I’d just like to know what that refers to. It is very difficult to ask this bc people often think I’m being adversarial or challenging to judging and no I have the exact same pore elm when discussing sex with people who identify as their birth sex.

I also wonder if this is about freedom of expression why does a person need to identify as something other rather than just being their authentic self. It’s a bit counterintuitive to me to have to change to be who you truly are. If sex & behavior are fluid why are the pronoun changes necessary. Why not act dress present as dem or masc or whatever else as you see fit and stay as who and what you naturally are. I don’t think I’ve ever seen so many gender stereotypes as when people are discussing being trans. It is confusing bc adhering to cultural stereotypes does not seem to me to correlate with free expression & fluidity.

Well, I am of an age where racism, sexism and homophobia were mainstream family entertainment on television so I certainly have some ideas engrained in me about what masculine and feminine mean but I'm not sure that I could really tell you what they are specifically, other than what I would expect to be trite and obvious.

Women look after children, men do heavy and dirty jobs etc.

But as you point out these gender roles have been abandoned now, society has moved on so I don't know on what basis someone would or could build the argument supporting their claims but I would be interested to hear what those arguments were.

I also agree with your 'confusion', that certainly appears to be at least nonsensical if not contradictory.

I met a cis male trans woman? randomly while I was stuck in a town far from home with my car in the shop, they were busking (playing music on the street) so i chatted to them a bit and so far as i could tell they were 100% male.

So one of the things that they did which I thought was masculine was the way in which they addressed the non crowd of people (it was a marketplace of people but not many were watching the show). When a man speaks like this, its an instruction, when a woman does it, its an appeal. Now don't go thinking that I am suggesting that one is more valid or more powerful than the other, it isn't, it's about the energy and the language. I have a memory of a woman on stage at a festival on tv and she was doing what a man would do and it totally rubbed me up the wrong way, it was a real turn off, not in a sexual way but with their status and credibility, they werent being geniune, they were trying to be something that they were not.

That woman to the best of my knowledge was not trans but I wonder how I might have perceived the same thing differently if they were trans but I still didn't know that, would they have been able to pull it off or would I still have felt it was contrived?

I identify as a female because I was born female. My organs and my skeleton is that of a female that produces eggs, and can bare children.

And as a healthy female that has a monthly menstrual cycle, I sexually desire my male counterpart.

As an adult human female I will be called “woman” “lady” or “ma’am”.

My male counterpart will always BIOLOGICALLY be physically stronger than I ever will as a female. My male counterpart has upper body strength, and greater hand-strength than I ever will.

When I die and my bones get dug up from underground. They will conclude that I am a female due to my skeletal anatomy. Biological women have wider hips to give birth. Unlike biological human males.

I will always be shorter than a man. And I always be physically weaker than a man.

Men tend to have longer arms unlike women. And a man’s muscles will always be more defined unlike a woman. A woman will always have more body-fat than a man.

Men tend to have wider shoulders. Women do not. Women tend to have wider hips. Men tend to have Adonis belts.

No matter how messed up your hormones are. No matter how many hormone blockers you take. Your skeleton and your anatomy will always be that of a man or woman. There’s nothing else. There’s no extra genders. There’s no inbetween.

When people talk about "identities" these days, they are talking about gender. The idea that a male can be a female and a female can be a male is a brand new concept. I think it has to do with the transhumanist agenda. It is also being pushed by the pharmaceutical and medical industries for profit, just as the cosmetic industry plays on people's insecurities in order to sell products.

Feelings, behaviors and attitudes, on the other hand, are fluid. They may change throughout a person's lifetime. Every individual is unique.

Girls can occupy a spectrum from girly-girl to tomboy. Boys can occupy a spectrum from bold and aggressive to effeminate and sensitive. People can even occupy different points on the spectrum from minute to minute.

But gender, itself, can't be changed, not even through drugs and surgery. There is no such thing as "gender" fluidity. However, they can be "sexually" fluid. Sexuality is complex. It varies from individual to individual. The bottom line is, people prefer what they prefer, and it's all good as long as it's consensual and doesn't involve coercion. Laws and social norms that attempt to force people to conform are harmful.

So, in answer to your question, if I understand what you're asking, is, there is no definition for what it means to be a man or a woman. It's all subjective. At most, all you can quantify is what the "majority" in your culture considers to be typical. Although, in the end, even that is meaningless. I think people should take pride in their uniqueness rather than trying to conform to some archetypal construct.

I've dealt with families where one individual defines as transgender. This individual generally says " I feel like a female," or "I feel like a male." I ask the other family members what it feels like to be a male or female, and no one has been able to clearly define that.

We are all people with preferences. No two people are alike, and it's not necessary to fit into a category to be who we are. I remember the hippy movement in the 60s. They tended to say they wanted to be different, yet all you had to do was look at them to know they were hippies. On this site, it's common for people to lump people into categories (all men, all women, all people with this size or body part, etc.). Our society would be so much better off if we taught our kids to feel good about their uniqueness rather than attempt to mold themselves into a particular category. It's not that we flow like fluid, but that there are many dimensions to who we are, and all those dimensions won't necessarily fit into the expectations of others.

Another major problem with our society is parents being so afraid their child will do something wrong, resulting in negative consequences, parents feel it is their right and duty to do their child's thinking. When children are constantly spoon fed and told they are wrong, telling them they are too stupid to think for themselves, they stop thinking for themselves. Kids aren't born insecure and unable to think. It tends to be pounded into their heads by adults. When are we going to stop maintaining dysfunctional patterns (just because they are familiar) and actually help people believe in themselves and their ability to think?

As such, the body itself, much less society or tradition, should not impede personal choice, in this case expressed as “identification.” To answer your question, what people are identifying is how they want to be perceived regardless of whether it is at odds with social perception or physical evidence. It is a promise of the triumph of the individual over society. Except, the further down the path one goes, the more dependent one is on the elite to provide the medical intervention, legal enforcement of the identity on people who refuse to disbelieve their lying eyes, etc. This naturally creates a class of people completely dependent on the current elites, and this is very dark indeed.

Personally I'm cisgender, so please take everything I say with a grain of salt. From what I understand from my trans and non-binary friends, a lot of it has to do with how they emotionally relation to like gender-based social expectations and the concepts of masculinity and femininity. If they relate more strongly to a different set of traits than their biology implies in our culture they may shift their gender identity. Many of the non-binary people I know say they're non-binary because they don't want people to relate to them as masculine or feminine, just as people (ex. a biologically female person doesn't have to be physically weak, overly emotional, or especially caring/family oriented, even though western culture often identifies those traits as "feminine").

There's honestly a lot in common between the cis and non-binary experiences in my opinion because most cis people I know really just don't care that much about their genders. But please, if any trans or non-binary individuals would like refute or support I'd be happy to hear from you. Gender identity is really not something I relate to very strongly.

That doesn't mean you can't feel different then what you where born as. But society and school in particular are ruining children know with very damaging information that they can be anything they want which is a toxic sickness that is teached to children before they even realise what they really are.

No offense to the people who are transgender or whatever else they believe they are because is not their fault that they think differently and step away from there biological sex. It's just very very sad that children have to make sexual orientated choices while they are not old enough to understand what it actually means.

The result... Many many of them will be facing identity crisis sooner or later which is making their lifes incredibly more complicated then life itself already is!

I'm not trying to hurt them intentionally but they just don't realise that they became victims of a very toxic education system in this toxic society we live in nowerdays. We cold debate this topic over and over but mainly I would say people who go out of their way to say "i am such and such" are attention seekers.

You could theoretically claim to be whatever you wanna be but when you want the whole world to play along and call you one thing and get offended if they forget or refuse, you're basically struggling with personal issues and need to look at yourself long before looking at others.

You'll notice most gender identity folks revert back after a time because the dopamine of getting into fights over it wears off and it becomes "too tiring" as they state it

Its a good question and one that puzzles me. I'm male - as far as biology, and so I identify as male. I don't know what it feels like to be "male" or "female" . If some magic spell made my body female, I'd identify as female.

The thing is, for some people it IS extremely important. The best I can figure, there are really two axes: Male vs Female and Strength of gender identity.

So I'm male, but its not a strong identity. Someone else might find that they gender is a core part of their being.

I'm a man. Sometimes I like to wear makeup, skirts, nail polish, anklets, and so on. I also shave my entire body (except eyebrows). I present in a masculine manner without taking on feminine behaviors. I'm not a crossdresser. I'm a man who sometimes prefers that type of fashion.

A man who prefers to exhibit feminine behavior in order to make themselves feel as if they are a woman, is still a man exhibiting fashionable behavior. It doesn't make him a woman.

I could list and explain the behaviors of many other types of people, but there is no need to do so.

The problem I have with these recent shifts regarding trans and especially non-binary is how completely arbitrary each one is and how it deconstructs long standing societal norms by demanding an ever changing level of compliance from everyone. How can I be expected to respect someone’s demands when they don’t show me the same courtesy? The fact that kids can be taken away from their parents for not giving gender affirming care is even more malicious in my opinion.

Well for me it is simple because I have a deep need to put my penis in the vagina of people I identify as female. I also have a deep need to feel up the bodies of people I identify as female.

The people I identify as female, are only girls by birth. It is possible that by donning typically female clothing a male by birth can appear to be female for a short period of time. But there are always quite a number of things that are wrong and it engenders a feeling of revulsion in me.

I don't think anybody thinks I am male/female by birth therefore I am abc and do xyz. It is probably more inherent for men. We don't think I should get an erection, we just do. It is certainly not a learnt response.

Quite possibly it is more amorphous and less inherent for females, I dunno and can't. The 'identifying as a woman' story line is politics. Don't overthink it. You are female by birth and therefore a woman. You already have the answer of being as you are.

I do look at and buy women's fashion magazines... to look at the beautiful women in great clothes... I have, and do read murder mystery novels by some good women writers.. but then again do read Michael Connelly, novels as well
