What does Cis- Gender mean?

Cis, short for cisgender (pronounced sis-gender, or just sis), is a term that means whatever gender you are now is the same as what was presumed for you at birth. This simply means that when a parent or doctor called you a boy or a girl when you were born, they got it right.

So basically, it means that you were born a woman / man with a vagina / penis, and you actually identify with the gender that matches the genitals you were born with.

So, throughout history, every heterosexual person is now what the trans community would consider a CIS man or woman. Because you are a man or woman that actually chose to be a man a woman. But not really because these men and women never had to make a choice. They are what they were born to be.

So, if you met a man or woman that insisted on being call or referred to as CIS, would you date them?

I mean you would have had no reason as to not identifying them as a man or woman, so would their need to identify as CIS be a Red Flag to you?

To me, it's handy to have that up front. It helps me weed out cishet people.

I'm okay with cis folks, but frankly I'm more interested in trans and enby people.

Cis women are fine with me, I'm more attracted to women than men.

Cis men I'm not as into at all. I'm not as attracted to cis men. Especially if they're heterosexual. I've had enough cishet men dating experiences for a lifetime.

Trans and enby folks are much more appealing to me than cis folks as we have more in common. I'm non-binary myself and more comfortable and have had better quality relationships with people who explore their gender identities and are less binary obsessed.

I go back to HR and ask what is this? We work in small office... I got to know if this person is the right fit... like what situation or circumstances am I looking at here.

If as this person for an interview I want to know what's walking through the door. I need to be prepared.

HR contacts the person, she ask to speak with me. She was a school teacher, 26 years old. Came out college and went straight into teaching. They enforced these pronoun rules in public schools. So just assume it was the professional thing to do. She was very apologetic and rewrote the resume.

Wanted to remove the genitals you were born with is a horse of a different color. I do think that a minority of trans people can't deal with being gay. But this is a tiny minority. Less than 5% or fewer.

Only 4% of world population falls into the trans category. But it's no different than being gay. These are ALL expressions of the human condition. Just as being on the spectrum is part of human existence. There is no "normal." There's simply more of some groups than there are of others. So the premise of this whole chain of responses was basically kicked off with you applying a tactic of grouping ambiguity. You applied the terms, of legal, social and genetic to gender identity.

Now it was well worded, and you wrote a good response... but bottom line is that there are not three types of categories for classing gender by definition.

Genetics dictates if you have a penis, or vagina, and based upon that fact your legally determinate as a boy or girl. So, there is no determining your gender by a legal standard, because it is not independent of, nor does it stand apart from your Genetic gender.

There is no standalone definition for deterring gender, because again it goes back to the legal birth certificate, which is then determined by your genetic makeup... penis or vagina. So, in the end social and legal has nothing to do about determining if you have a penis or vagina.

I mean it is so basic and fundamental, that you don't even have to have a 1st grade education to know the difference between boy and girl. Penis and Vagina, I mean I just knew from a very young age, like before kindergarten that girls did not have a penis. Like I did not know what they had, but I knew it was not a penis. Personally, I've dated plenty of cis people already. If i was single again, I'd date one again. I have no problem with cis people.

That's just not how categories work. Sexuality is what gender you like, not what gender you are. If a guy says he's heterosexual, then you know he likes girls, but you don't know if he's trans or not. And if a guy says he's cis, then you don't know if he likes guys or girls. You may not think a trans person can be heterosexual, but that doesn't change the fact that trans/cisgender does not mean the same thing as hetero/homosexual.

As far as my own identity... I don't even know what you think I am. I haven't cross dressed since adults forced me to as a kid. And it doesn't really matter what my sexuality is for this question. If I dated a cis woman who insisted on being called a "cis woman," it would be the same answer. Regardless of my sexuality, I'm still trans, and I'd still be uncomfortable dating someone who wanted me to out myself to everyone.

Also, you should stay out of your ex's kid's love life. It doesn't matter what you think as long as they have a consensual relationship they're both happy with. If I had only said "they're both straight" then you could have assumed they were trans like me, and dismissed them as an example. They're not. That's why I said cis as well: to be clear. Because it's a separate peice of information than saying they're straight. That's why the prefix exists in the first place. Always has. It's just an option, for when clarity is needed. You don't have to use it. I only use it in situations where it's relevant whether the person is cis or trans, and that information can't be inferred from the rest of the sentence. HOW did I say that? How? I've been saying, heterosexual and homosexual are talking about one thing (sexuality), and cisgender and transgender are talking about a different thing (gender). That's why BOTH descriptors are needed, for clarity. Not always. But in situation like this, when we're talking specifically about the word "cis," It's important to understand what it means and what purpose it serves. It just means "same," and it serves the purpose of differentiating between you and me, and what kind of men we are.

If you didn't use cis or trans, you'd still have to use some other words to differentiate us, or you'd have to leave us in the exact same category: just "men." And I assume you don't want that. Personally, I would be fine with that. I don't think the terms cis or trans are really necessary (outside of a medical setting, where they have been used forever). I am just a man.
