Am I the only one that doesn’t really care about 9/11?

I’m probably going to get a lot of hate or thumbs down but just hear me out. It needs to be said.

Looks I know it’s heartbreaking that about 3000 people lost their lives and those families lost their relatives and friends. I sympathize with them, but let’s face it, that’s the past. It already happened and people are acting like it happened yesterday. Get over it! Move ON. Every year everyone cries that day and people saying “We Remember 9/11” or “Don’t Forget 9/11” blah blah blah. I don’t care! I DON’T. I will not be sitting working or walking around being depressed all day just because of the anniversary of 9/11. I’m going to walk with a smile on my face and go on with my day. 9/11 is just another damn day. We learned about it in school and I don’t understand why 9/11 has to be a patriotic day when we have Independence Day, Veterans Day and Memorial Day. I’m so sick of a lot of people on social media posting about it every damn year. People act so sad over it every time. Shut up! Just shut up about it! Nobody went crazy over the wars that happened and people died from worse than a plane crash!
The people that make a big deal about 9/11 because of their relatives killed that day, I’ll excuse them but other then that, WHO GIVES A SHIT? Just go on with your damn day. Most people my age or younger people don’t really care about it. I was 2 when it happened and I don’t act like I don’t remember it because I don’t!

According to your profile, you're 24. So you were likely around 2 years old when 9/11 happened. So you don't know how it felt to watch the worst terrorist attack on the US that threatened your own democracy and safety. The way it was handled by first responders and ordinary Americans was just incredible. The US stood up to the terror and bounced back basically as quickly as that same afternoon. You don't know what it was like to turn on the TV and see all of that happening live, with absolutely everyone in the world asking, "what now?"

The reason you might feel you don't care is because you're disconnected from it by means of not understanding it since you were only 2 years old, and possibly that you aren't even from New York, and that you personally have not known anyone affected by it all.

If that's the case, perhaps your feelings of "I don't care" are really just: "I don't understand", leaving you open to the real reason about why that was such a monumental day in US history. If you really can't get past that, then at least be decent enough to respect those who did their best to make sure you, at 24 years old today, have a safe place to call home, while you sit on your phone or computer asking if you're the only one who doesn't care about 9/11 on GaG.

Well said Ozanne! Those of us who are not from NY also felt the horror of that attack. We remember the thousands who died in the Tower, but also those who died from other planes that were part of the same attack, especially those brave passengers who took down the plane they were in to protect the targets of the terrorists. Many first responders also died, some immediately and others later from the wounds and inhaled toxins.
We are thankful for the many brave people who have given so much so that we may live in relative safety. Remembering and honoring them takes so little effort that it is almost unbelievable that there are people sick enough to be upset at that rememberance.

It doesn't directly affect me either, but anything going on in the US actually ties all of us together globally. So it does actually affect me indirectly. If something ever happened in the US, we would all feel it. But in this case, the US stood up to the terror. We always remember the wars our countries fought and won, and the aftermath of what happened post-war. This is very similar, because it nearly started WW3.

You can say you don't care about WW2 or WW1 for that matter. That's akin to saying you don't care about the signing of the Declaration of Independence where the US all started. There are moments in history that have had a deep impact on why we are sitting where we are now, dealing with what we deal with, or celebrate the freedoms we have. I'm sorry you are so disconnected with that, but maybe some day you will come to realize that the very important moments in history happened so that you can be comfortable in your bedroom at night, not really caring because you're simply THAT comfortable. That's what standing up to terrorism, tyranny, and fighting for democracy is all about. So that you, as a free person, can sit there completely unaware of how great your life is, not knowing why you should appreciate the people who stood up to things to make your life as comfortable as it is.

You don't have to be depressed all day, and based on your lack of empathy around the topic, I don't think you are, and I think your age says it all. You weren't old enough for it to have made an impact on your life. I lost a cousin, a first responder, and I know others that have lost direct family members. I live in NY. I don't give a shit if you excuse me because I knew someone or others that did. Your lack in empathy is sickening.

Grow the f up you and tolerate one day a year and show some damn regard for other people. Why is it that people like you can only learn the hard way. It has to happen to you to understand bad something is. Just imagine you living there and losing a loved one. Try to imagine the chaos, the smell in the air for months, not knowing what happened to your loved one, only to find a barely unidentifiable burned up body part.

Lack in empathy is where all this crap starts with. It takes little effort to care about more than yourself and to think about why others feel how they do and you can't deal for one day. I hope you learn in your own way. Not as bad as this of course, but I hope you do.

It is funny at the end you mentioned your age when it happened as one of the reasons why you didn’t care and that’s pretty much the impression I got reading your whole post. For anyone that was old enough to remember when it happened it is a day that will further be engrained in your memory. I can ask anyone I know what they were doing that day and they will remember it pretty vividly. I was in elementary school. It is pretty selfish to not care but really you just don’t understand just how much of a huge deal it was. Everyone was is in a state of panic regardless of if you were in NYC or not. One of the planes crashed within a few hours of where I live. Then watching the videos of people responding to it and everything else that came after. All the survivor stories on the news or people in your life that were supposed to be in one of the areas affected but didn’t go for whatever reason. I didn’t fully understand it at the time but I knew it was bad. I didn’t understand why all the kids were getting pulled from school or what had actually happened.

Yeah, I heard about stories from the older employees that are like in their late 20s and 30s said that they went home and they canceled school for the day and shut everything down. I mean, how would they fully understand when they were just kids themselves? One of the ladies that is about 34 or 35 got emotional she kept saying she’s OK but she said deep down. She was emotional but she needs to get over it and she was just a kid or teenager back then. There are some employees that weren’t even born yet (19-21).

bro you were barely conscious. you didn't know what it was like watching that on tv when you were about to go to school. it was absolutely awful and changed everything we know today. you're being insensitive. just because it didn't effect you doesn't mean you can say you don't care about it. it was a direct attack on our country. it was a terrorist attack that can very realistically still happen AGAIN today.

this doesn't mean we walk around being depressed. it means we walk around grateful that we're doing everything we can to not let it happen again and remember the vitims because that's the right thing to do. we walk around more cautious today than any other day because yes people are still effected even if they lived across the country and didn't know anyone that died. we don't just think about the victims, we also think about the help, the firefighters, emt's, police, soldiers, the victims families etc... it's not only just about those almost 3000 people... it spread across all of america. it was an extremely big event in america's history that changed the course of safety and many other things.

You remind me of one of those people that would say the Holocaust didn't happen or that slavery didn't happen or that it wasn't a big deal when it was. 9/11 was and still is a big deal. Just because it didn't affect you directly doesn't mean it didn't impact many other lives whether they were there or not or whether they had family that died or not. If you're an American then it did affect you. We lost our fellow Americans that day and many died saving lives that day. You should have some respect for those that laid down their lives and to those that could not get out that tragic day. You need to look at the recordings. It is quite tragic when you hear how they died and there was nothing anyone could do to stop it from happening.

I remember hearing the recording of one of the guys with a family who didn't make it. It is pitiful to hear him especially at the very end. Actually hearing it may make you change your mind. Or at least I hope.

i dont really care that much either like i wasn't even a year old when it happened

that being said its sad and stuff and i think its normal to remember it every year because of how shocking it was but sometimes its over done for how long time has passed. like when i was in school even when i wasn't in america we'd talk about it a lot on the birthday. in america we'd have 5 minutes of silence and in a class or two spend the whole time talking about it, watch a movie about it, when we did all that at that point the attack had been almost two decades ago. i'm part french and we also if y'all remember have had a bunch of very deadly terrorist attacks by isis and the taliban in much more recent history and we dont talk about them anymore really

Well said, it has been given too much coverage just because it happened to the USA and was used as an excuse to justify the illegal wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. I believe the conspiracy theories about the attacks, especially as i was watching the events unfold live on TV and i wonder why cameramen were filming the twin towers before the planes had even crashed into them, and then reported they had crashed into them before they actually had.

The way those towers came down was controlled, and why did so many people predict the attacks before they had even happen.

Furthermore they have been far worse atrocities then 9/11
