Western civilization is collapsing. I want to prevent that. Best to learn from history. The Roman Empire seemed similar to our modern civilizations and collapsed. Hopefully by studying the Roman Empire we can avoid societal collapse and continue to advance. Seeing it crumble piece by piece makes me worried.

Well, I have personally always found history of warfare something that puts me to sleep. However, the older I get, the more acutely aware I am that history has the answers to problems, yet people forget or choose not to look. So, you are absolutely right, and I agree with you. And I've actually been reading about this very thing, and others, recently, for a book I'm writing. It's amazing, sometimes, how a mind can connect seemingly disparate dots. (One of my favourite things of all to do.)

Not to put a pin into this, and deflate it but... men are more interested and therefore aware of stuff like this, but where has that got civilization? Even being aware, y'all are doing pissing contests, start wars, want power, land, jurisdiction, yada yada. Women may be passive, but they're also passive, lol.

Very true. Unfortunately it is a pattern in nature. The difference is with human societies there are a small portion of intelligent who are dragged down with the unintelligent people. I think The question is not if the civilization as a whole can be saved, but how the intelligent ones can survive because that is the part worth saving. The cycle of destruction seems inevitable. But like how an intelligent person can overcome self-destructive instincts, I would like the intelligent people to survive and thrive during and after the collapse.

Speaking on behalf of all the intelligent people out there, I can truthfully say that we are "disagreeable" and "don't get along" precisely because we can (for example) clearly see solutions to problems, how they arose and why they persist, but the rest of the ignorant mob are just not interested. I've also noticed that those who aren't as bright also tend to prefer to be told pleasant lies, rather than face the often painful truth. The less intelligent also rely upon their feelings and what they like to call "intuition" when making important decisions in life, with predictably disastrous consequences.
And one other thing; we're not "bad communicators". The basic problem is that those with whom we are trying to communicate (i. e. the ignorant, unintelligent majority) are just too stupid to understand us, and that gets frustrating after a while (like 20 years), and so we eventually just give up on them.

I think what guys admire about Rome is the organisation. Their army was well organized. The barbarians swung swords around whilst Roman soldiers hunkered down behind shields and darted out their short swords to stab them in the belly.

Romans were organised in everything - that is the admirable thing about them. Identify the problem the organize the solution. We need water to drink and to flush the toilets. No problem we'll build an aqueduct from that spring - it is 500 Km away. They had a manual on doing this :)

If history is truly repeating, then that means the USA, Western Europe, Scandinavia, and parts of Central Europe are the modern Roman empire; while Canada, Eastern Europe, Russia, and Oceania are the modern day Byzantine empire. So even if the modern Romans end up falling, the modern Byzantines will continue to flourish for a long time before being annexed and absorbed into the modern or future equivalent of the Ottoman Empire. Yes both Canada and Oceania are quite woke and corrupt, but their geography, culture, and population will prevent them from fully collapsing unlike the others; Russia and Eastern Europe are already quite self sufficient (RIP Greece though). Ok I suppose Scandinavia might have the potential of surviving a full collapse, but that only applies to Finland, Denmark, and Iceland; Sweden, Norway, and Netherlands are gonna die off lol.

In modern times, all European countries lost their empire after 300-400 years. The united States is about 250 years old, and in decline.

You can study teh Roman Empire if you want, but most civilizations decline for similar reasons.

Julius Caesar was the first dictator of Rome. He was never made emperor, just dictator. Yes it’s semantics. He was responsible for leading 3 legions in the Gallic wars. He took Agustus to be his adopted son. So the later end of the Republic was not one of peace. Pax being Latin for peace. After his conquest in Gaul, Caesar took his legions across the Rubicon river, something forbidden for generals to do. He nearly started a civil war by doing this. After he was assassinated Agustus became Emperor. At that time there was civil war resulting in the death of Mark Antony and Cleopatra, the puppet ruler of Egypt for the Roman Empire among other notable figures. After the civil war was ended during Agustus’ reign is when the Pax Romana began. It lasted through most of his reign. The only real war during Agustus reign was in Germania, where approx 3 Roman legions were annihilated under the leadership of Varius. The Romans responded to that roughly a decade later by sending a man later to be known as Germanicus to punish the Celtic tribes. Other than that it was mostly peaceful under his reign, and under his successor Tiberius reign, and his successor Claudius reign, and his successor Caligula’s reign. After Caligula was assassinated there was a fairly major war in Judea where the Jews revolted under Vespasian. At that time Jerusalem was practically leveled and the temple was destroyed by Titus and his legions, who succeeded Vespasian after his death. Prior to Vespasian there were a few minor conflicts but not much. It was largely known as a period of peace and prosperity for the Empire.
