What was your last dream?

The most recent dream I had was last night, I'm very passionate about the history of the American Civil War and greatly admire the bravery both sides showed in their fight.

Politics aside, I had a dream that I was a Confederate soldier getting over an injury I got at the skirmish near Appomattox station on April 8th, just a day before the meeting at the court house.

I was close enough to see Robert E Lee ride up to the McLean house, I'd heard about the possible surrender, but held on to hope that Johnston would make it to Virginia to continue the fight. But when I saw him, I knew it was over, I walked up to the house but was stopped by a Yankee on a horse who pointed his gun at me.

His stare was very intense, but all I could do was return the gaze as if to tell him he has nothing to gain. After a moment, he lowered his gun and rode away. I was close enough that I could see US Grant shake Robert E Lee's hand, I knew that could only mean one thing.

Finally, enough was enough, the war was over. Tears poured from my eyes like a river, peace was upon us at last, but all of the death and suffering was in vein, I had no longer a country, and the Yankees would get to tell us how to live after all.

Many Yankees saw how I was carrying on, but they simply looked at me with sympathetic glances, but I could tell they understood why I was carrying on like I was, but they were happy that they'd won. But they had enough respect for me not to show how happy they were, and that only made me cry more.
