One of my hockey teammates plays on a local semipro football team, and he knows I used to play. He said the team is having a meeting tomorrow night for this summer’s season, and he’s trying to encourage me to play for them.
I’m weirdly intrigued, because I thought I walked out on top ten years or so ago and was at peace with never playing ball again. Even started a new sport, it’s like I’ve moved on. But still…I miss laying people the fuck out, lmfao. I get in a fight here and there in hockey now, but it’s not necessarily encouraged, so it’s not that much of a reliable outlet. Shit just jumps off once in a while and the refs don’t make enough money to stop it, lmao, so I might get a chance to bang out, but it’s unlikely, and you get suspended, etc.
Now I’m kind of feeling the itch for football again. But it’s the “what’s the dream vs the reality?” thing. I “retired” (😂) a decade ago for the very reason that I was getting too old to keep up, to recuperate, all that. I’ve also lost about 40 lbs since the last time I played, and at my age, putting muscle on doesn’t come easily, I feel like I’m just fighting to keep it. Now I’m back to a weight where I’d be a wide receiver, and I didn’t really have the wheels for it in my heyday, I’m a hands guy, haha. I’m too much of a ‘tweener to play most defensive positions, which is where my heart is. I could MAYBE be a really undersized defensive end, which is where I finished, but again….40 more pounds on me. Mostly bad pounds, but they made me harder to move.
So I’ll probably get embarrassed at best and destroyed at worst…. but they have a cool name, “The Cobras”, and I’d get team swag to wear and hot dog around in again like a young gun😂 I kind of want to relive that. But I don’t want to think shit is sweet and get put in a wheelchair trying to pretend I’m not old, lmfao. So I won’t…but I might…maybe just Special Teams😝
