The US constitution was groundbreaking and excellent. They should be revered for creating it. Making it amendable by democratic means (and not necessarily relying on Congresspeople) was genius.

However, treating them like religious icons rather than men of their time is dangerous. The most recently adopted amendment was the 27th, over 30 years ago. (It was also one of the first ever proposed, in 1789.)

That makes the most recently proposed and adopted amendment the 26th, (standardising voting age at 18) which was from 1971, over 50 years ago.

Claims that amendments are sacrosanct are ridiculous, a new amendment can modify or repeal an older one (see the 18th and 21st amendments, prohibition).

The constitution is designed to be amended to reflect the overwhelming will of the people; perhaps the next one will be to get big money out of politics, or to abolish the Electoral College (although that probably won't happen until the National Popular Vote Interstate Compact comes into force).

Neither, they should be an assigned to the history books. It's ridiculous that hundreds of year's later America is still trying to conform to the wishes of long dead rich guys like no one since them could possibly be right.
