+1 yWe use Yen here in Japan although I work for an American company and get paid in USD. Actually I've experienced something like a massive salary raise recently without actually receiving one since the USD->Yen conversion rate is so high now ($1 USD is now equivalent to ~150 yen).
In the lows, I've experienced times in past years where $1 USD was worth less than 100 Yen and I tried to negotiate with my company to pay me in Yen since that was awful. They refused but I'm grateful now since I get ~150 Yen to every US dollar I'm paid although it's always fluctuating each month/year.

For Yen we have these coins in ascending order from top-left to bottom right.

Then for bills we have these:
Actually it would be very difficult to have strip clubs here in Japan where dancers expected tips on stage, since our smallest bill is 1000 yen which is worth $15 USD unless we're tossing coins at her like 100 yen coins. 😅 - +1 y
Oops sorry, I got that backwards. It would be worth $6.70 USD now (although I generally think of 1 yen as around 1 cent USD, and that's usually around where the conversation rate fluctuates at its highest highs and lowest lows).

@purplepoppy For whatever reason, I thought that the Euro was the currency when I was in London? Was it at one time and then switched back to the Pound?

+1 yBeer. I'm almost not kidding. Beer is usually exchanged for favors and/help. If someone helps you move you get them a case of beer. They help you build a deck, get'em a case of beer. They help clean the garage, case of beer. They snowblow your driveway, case 'o beer.
They help you back the boat in, beer.
In Wisconsin we still use the U. S. dollar.
02 Reply- +1 y
Still? Are there plans for drifting away from the dollar? Also, so beer is basically the legal tender for barter?
- +1 y
Actually in the US there are serious talks of ditching the dollar in favor of an All-digital currency run soley by the government. It's not even remotely a popular Idea and will never actually happen.
And yes, beer is used to barter sometimes. Not for material things so to speak, mainly for someone's time and effort.

Whats the exchange rate currently? I've heard its deprrciated a lot over the years?
- +1 y
Since our economical crisis begun in 2019 the rate had flew high...
Since 1991 till 2019 the rate of our currency towards the U. S dollar was 1,500 LBP = 1$ , the current rate is 89,500 LBP = 1$
Now our currency serves only like "cents" exchange for dollars
At it's peak the 1$ reached nearly 140,000 LBP - +1 y
Oh dear. 1500 to 140k. Touching almost 100 times the depreciation :o
- +1 y
True, that's why the country had collapsed and a lot of people here turned under the poverty line...
These days our whole economy has been dollarized, the monthly incomes for workers are way less than the minimal wage to have a proper life and since our country imports 90% of it's stuff, it makes things worst because there is no balance between importations and exportations...
For example a family of 4 individuals needs a monthly income between 1,500 dollars and 2K to have some sort of decent life while their monthly income is between 300$ to 1K at max but the majority of people falls under 600$, so that's a big issue...
