Western society has made loyalty into a vice. Consider the behaviour of the average hero in the movies.

James Bond - averages 2 women per movie

Move towards the rise of "anti-heroes" totally self centered and callous.

Loyalty is mocked. There's no place for JFK's question "Ask what you can do for your country?" Jump from job to job, new company every 3 to 5 years.

I'm even paying more year on year for staying with my insurance company for my car instead of less because 1) the car's worth less because it's older 2) I've (usually) gone another year without a claim and 3) their own statistics demonstrate that a guy over 50 (shit, I'm old!) is a safer driver than when he was 25!

Loyalty is punished in almost every circumstance and then we are expected to miraculously be loyal "until death do us part" when we get into a romantic relationship. Exactly where is this loyalty modelled?

Hollywood? Hardly these days. Of course you get couples like Goldie Hawn and Kurt Russell that have survived decades, but it's more "normal" to idolise the stars who jump in and out of bed with each other.

A challenge: name five Hollywood couples who have lasted 20 years or more without any infidelity. Most people can't.

Maybe you're don't engender loyalty. Or foolishly put expectations on someone incapable of loyalty. Or maybe your expectations are simply not realistic.

I only surround myself with loyal people. As you get older you realize what people are worth keeping around an investing in and what people are not. I keep my circle small. I can count my friends on one hand. Whereas I can count my acquaintances in the 1000's but that's the difference. I do not expect loyalty from an acquaintance. My expectations of of an acquaintance in Nil.

If you come through this life with a HANDFUL of loyal friends you're doing well. That's just reality.

There are loyal people but you might have to chase them down. Like good people have so many invitations to talk and hang out that you won’t end up on their priority list unless you initiate contact.

I wish I could give an answer, but I can't because not even I know. But there are good and loyal people out there, I do at least know that.

I don't know I wonder the same thing, I have seen soo many post of people bragging about sleeping with married people or cheating and it honestly bugs me. I think there actually isn't a shortage of loyal people its more they stick to themselves because of all the unloyal people out there.

🤣🤣 What you expect? I mean look at topics and discussion on gag. Most women here are encouraged promiscuous behaviour by other women.

Where? Loyalty isn't automatic. Loyalty is basically trust, and it has to be earned.
