I still like the name Washington Redskins and Cleveland Indians better than the generic lame crap names they came up with commanders and guardians? Are you kidding me? Not only the names but the new logos are lame to. For the commanders their logo is simply a W and the guardians it's a baseball with the letter g... some lame ass shit there. So for me the Retro name and logo is better. So on my YouTube channel I'll have Washington Redskins football night and Cleveland Indians baseball night and will not apologize for it. It was stupid they changed the names anyway they caved and bent their knee to the woke mob. Whoever made the decisions was weak minded I don't go for intimidation that's how a bully Acts. If I was the owner of those clubs it's like this is who we are if you don't like it then tough. No one forces you to watch our games or buy our merchandise you live your life we're going to live ours. What are your thoughts? That's good to hear because yeah what they've done by getting them to change the name is going from complaining about the name to basically now it's nothing to do with native Americans at all so zero representation let's just erase them and their history. They can "claim" whatever they want, but you won't find agreement throughout all the Indian nations, that's for sure. My girlfriend's parents and grandparents will tell you that "redskins" was used the same way the "N word" was used, in their time. It was used as a slur and to mock those who were forced to attend "Indian schools" and punished for speaking their language. Yes, there's plenty of "emotional and cultural significance" for their tribe, and none of it is good when it comes to being called a redskin.

But they not only changed the name they just changed the whole theme so there is no native American representation AT ALL NOW. So it's like just erase them completely from the minds of everyone. Besides, unless you're going to PAY a tribe for using their name, what good does it do them? If Washington wanted to keep a native American theme and call themselves "The Washington Piscataways", the largest tribe native to the area historically, then THAT would represent them. And if they did that, they should PAY the tribe a portion of their profits. But that's not what happened, and the local tribes don't care about that. What they cared about was the use of the slur.

I, for one, remain deeply disappointed they didn't go from "Washington football team" to "Washington baseball team". And then have the logo be an Indian guy with a headdress and a hockey stick slam dunking a basketball. Just confuse the fuck out of everyone.

I can understand objecting to "redskins", since, you know, it's an actual racial slur, but "Indians" being a problem is just stupid; likewise the Chicago Blackhawks (I'm sure someone's complained). And, of course:

Two related little things: first, nearly every sports team is named after an animal, and even if you take out the teams named after subgroups of humans, almost all of them are warm-blooded animals. Now, I have nothing against warm-blooded creatures (being one myself), but there are SO MANY interesting reptiles, amphibians, fish, and so on out there that it just breaks my heart to see them ignored. I mean, beetles alone could probably name every sports team humanity's ever had without repeating a single animal even once.

In the town I live in the mascot was always the Indians. 4 or 5 years ago they changed it to the Hawks. I still have a couple of shirts with the Indian logo on it. I have no problem wearing them

I went to college at a school that had "The Chieftains" as a mascot. This college had a Celtic tradition similar to Notre Dame and Chieftains referred to the Gaelic term for klansman. Still the college folded to the woke protests that it was insulting to native Americans. They changed it ti Jayhawks which really has no meaning. Every time the college calls me for a donation I tell them I will donate only if they change the name back.

I grew up watching watching Redskins football, 🏈 watching them be a one of the better teams. Their head coach Joe Gibbs the only coach in history to win a Super Bowl with three different quarterbacks. The rivalry with the Cowboys, Redskins Cowboys was always a game to look forward to kind of like we would play Cowboys and Indians in the backyard is kids there's no foul intention towards it I'm just sick of this woke whiny baby world that wants to be a victim. Those teams somehow managed to come up with two of the shittiest sports names ever.
