CO2 is barely a greenhouse gases, and indeed the Earth is currently suffering greatly from a great lack of CO2.

Current CO2 levels are actually about as low as they have ever been. In fact we are far closer at 400ppm to the 150ppm line of mass extinction of plant life than the historic norm.

Indeed Earth nearly reached that line 20 thousand years ago when it went down to 180ppm. If we did none of us would be here today.

The fact that CO2 levels are soo low is in fact a big problem all by itself as it puts all plant life on this earth in a difficult position of having to do

Add to this the generally disastrous consequences of the ongoing ice age, and even if CO2 were a real Greenhouse gas it would be in our current Ice house earth a highly desirable one.

We really shouldn't be trying to keep CO2 levels this low. We dodged a big bullet during the last Glacial Maximum with it dropping to 180ppm for the first time ever.

This is partially true. Yes co2 is needed for plant life. However too much co2 actually makes plant life toxic to people. There is a balance to it. We presently higher than the balance which has negative impacts. The most ideal range for co2 ppm is between 300 and 350 ppm. We are presently above that at around 425 ppm.

The fact that I am a biochemist and one of things we study is the effect of various gasses like co2, co, o3 and others have on plant life. Plants ideal range of growth is around 400 as it is equivalent to outdoors. That being said you CAN get faster growth with higher levels that encompass your range 1200-1800ppm. Thing to remember is that the reason the "ideal ppm" exists at 400 ish is because that is the ideal level of MOST plants. There are plants that die or suffer with lower levels and those that don't suffer at higher levels. Most of the vegetation humans consume can withstand higher levels. The widely accepted "toxic level" is 2000 ppm with 1500 pushing the boundary. The big thing again though is these are based on the average of ALL plants. Exceptions exist which is why there are sources like you found. It just doesn't apply to all plants or even most plants.

@DarkLegacy Super-volcano's dump a lot more than mere CO2 into the atmosphere. The only time that may have led to a mass extinction was during the largest volcanic activity of all at the end of the Permian. But even that was insignificant to the levels before or since.

Which is why it is far more likely something else caused the Permian extinction.

Something similar happened at an even faster rate due to high heat levels and limited decay (due to microbe life not figuring out how to eat dead plants) of the devonian & carboniferous period. (Where most of our coal comes from for the same reason).

1: Deserts are not in general expanding as the Referenced NASA report proves exactly the opposite is actually happening and the earth is becoming greener. As plants expand into ever more habitats.

The reason for this is not only is it getting wetter with more water but more CO2 means plants need less water.

2: Natural disasters are not more common, people are just in many times more places to be hit by the same few.

3: Corel Reef's are dying because of habitat destruction not CO2 or warming. That is why the reef's far away from humans are doing fine. Humans are disrupting key parts of the food chain by hunting key animals that keep certant kinds of algae under-control. The same is true of most other extinctions. We are not only hunting them, we are latterly living on the prime real-estate where theses animals did.
This has been true for centuries as has the extinctions, we have just taken it to a new level due to exploding population in theses areas.

4: The warming of the polar regions is ultimately a very good thing, as they are becoming more inhabitable and stable for all forms of life.
The fact that the life specifically adapted to the cold is having a hard time competing is a narrow loss compared to the long term benefit of the additional 30% of usable land and resources of all other life.

@OtterMan68 We don't act actually know for sure because the Cambrian was soo long ago. However given this took place after the end of the catastrophic snowball earth its possible but we really can't tell if the evidence of ice is from that period or the prior one.
However plant life however didn't evolve until later in the Cambrian and this was regardless not a time of significant land plants.

This is just how earth really works @jshm2 and always has. The number actually add up with everything we know about history and the world around us unlike the very cherry picked fear mongering narrative.

CO2 is a very weak greenhouse gas but it is vital to life on earth, primarily plants depend upon it.
The levels of CO2 in the atmosphere is also very important to how well plants can live. We know this from greenhouses we have build and run for centuries. Which is also why we know plants can't survive below 150ppm.
We also know from fossil evidence of past plants what past CO2 levels were, at least as far back as such plants were around.

And we know from the positions of rocks and similar plants species the position's of the continental plates during the same peroids.

As such we know CO2 levels started dropping in the Jurassic around the same time the super-continent of pangaea started breaking up creating the Atlantic Ocean in the middle of what was then a vast interior desert.
The increased water supply and erosion is what led to more plants and more sequestration of CO2 and thus the drop that has continued to this day.

We are basically near the bottom of that decline, if it goes much lower plants will die, followed by everything that depends upon them like most all humans.
