The idea of it actually works and is good but too many Americans look at the European model and it's simply not a 1 to 1 comparison.
There's not many cities in the US with viable alternatives to driving. When you look at Europe most young people in cities don't even own cars. They can't afford it in many cases, gas is not expensive, and any non European car is very expressive. They also don't need it, they have buses, and trains that are actually efficient and connected.
The US often offers absolutely terrible public transit options and it is generally extremely inefficient. When you go to the root of the problem it is the zoning and urban planning that created this, not the car. You've stripped alternatives and forced the car. In many places in the US where people do use public transit it's also not cheap and of bad quality. Look at the mbta in Massachusetts and compare it to any city in Germany on cost and efficiency.
You can't fix the US problem with this and it will just piss people off because it only works when there are viable alternatives
If they want to reduce traffic, make public transportation cleaner, more reliable, and SAFER

I dont see a problem with it. If you live in a city then taking public transportation or just.. you know.. walk and/or bike is entirely realistic if not economic on your own part. Having everyone bring their car with them to the city has obviously failed so we need to step back and try something else. I also like the idea of "surrendering cities to tourists" as if tourism is not a great boon for the local economy. Very strange phrasing you made there.
Congestion pricing doesn't do anything other than provide another revenue stream for local government. Cities where it's been implemented (ex: London) still have horrible traffic issues. And it unfairly targets commuters.
To reduce traffic... and the pollution it causes... it's better to invest in mass transit.
I really don't care. Congestion pricing will just drive more people out. I left the city 30 years ago and never looked back. I don''t hav e to deal with the traffic or paying to park. I hav e a much easier commute and park for free right outside my office
Towns are struggling because people are just buying online now. They don't want the hassle of expensive parking or risking a ticket because they went half an inch over a line. You throw in congestion charges and it will kill many small businesses.
I don't think the government should be getting that involved in business unless it's stopping a crooked business.
What about safety and price gauging?
no thank you. This is like airlines charging more to overweight customers. Or schools charging more or less based on skin color. We should all get the same prices in this wonderful world of equality.
NYC Turned it down (NOT BECAUSE ITS AN ELECTION YEAR FOR THE CONSPIRACY THEORISTS) It was bad for tourism.
I don't and would never live in a city over 25,000 again.
