Congress Debates Expanding Draft Amid Recruitment Problems - GOP & Dem bills to expand to women & make register automatic face bipartisan challenges?

A panel of military experts suggested to Congress in 2020 that including women in the draft would be “in the national security interest of the United States.” Since then, Congress has repeatedly considered proposals to make the change, but they have all been scrapped before becoming law.

Women have since 2016 been allowed to serve in every role in the military, including ground combat, and there is some degree of bipartisan support for the idea that they should also be required to be subject to the draft

Other right-wing Republicans were quick to link the proposed addition of women to draft registration to what they argue is a trend of progressiveness run amok in the United States military. Senator Josh Hawley, Republican of Missouri, called it another “woke” decision being imposed on the nation’s armed forces.

“We need to get reality back in check here,” Mr. Hawley said on Fox News. “There shouldn’t be women in the draft. They shouldn’t be forced to serve if they don’t want to.”

The proposal for automatic registration has generated less controversy. Proponents argue it would streamline and lower spending for an agency that spends millions of dollars a year reminding citizens and residents of a certain age that registering is required by law.

I do not support drafting anybody, but especially drafting women, I just think it’s pointless if the idea of a draft is we need a giant army to fight a giant enemy, it might make the army bigger but will it make it stronger? And who is going to do everything else during this giant war, like for example, who is going to make the bombs or airplanes?

And if we are really fighting a giant enemy, won’t enough people volunteer so we don’t need a draft, or, if we do need a draft, isn’t that telling us that people don’t think the war is worth fighting?

Overall I think we should not have a draft, but if we did have a draft, I think we should focus on what the point of it is, which I THINK is having an army that will beat the other army. JMO!

No women have not been in every aspect of the military. They are not allowed in special forces for instance and there's a reason for that. Also look at how many women end up becoming Navy Seals.. yeeeaaaah.

But fuck the draft to begin with because involuntary servitude is slavery which is unconstitutional.
