From 2016 to 2019—mostly during Trump’s administration—those rural left-behind counties, which make up about 18% of the U. S. population, added 10,000 jobs. In 2023 alone, they added 104,000.

Tankersley notes that Trump overwhelmingly won the support of voters in these counties, but their circumstances did not improve during his administration. Under Biden, they added jobs five times faster than they did under Trump. Still, voters there appear to continue to back Trump.

Are they backing Trump because they care more about culture wars than their economic security? Or are they ill informed?

Because the opinions they hear are mostly from peer group and parents etc. I think trump is a waste of DNA but the situation of the middle class losing ground steadily since 1972 esp. in midwest manufacturing needs to faced. People whop make things, tangible, real things and fix things should be able to afford a house and enough financial stability to feel comfortable raising a family.

The so-called tax cuts made by Trump really made him look like an idiot. The corporate tax rate was cut by an amendment which means it's likely to be there until 75% of Congress could overturn. Trump & advisors thought that cutting taxes would stimulate economy in a trickle down effect. Companies were siupposed to spend more on R&D and hiring., Instead they used almost evert dime to buyback shares of the stock in the company they worked. This ran the stock prices up and stockholders benefitted. The major stockholders are the executive officers and BOD so that move negated any possible benefit from tax cut,. Meanwhile personal taxes were not made law and almost every tax cut made has disappeared.

It amazes me how many people support someone who has no interest in their welfare.
