The Romans, the Greeks never really got into Europe. The Romans adopted Greek culture and it was a romanised version that was spread, such as statues, busts etc. The romans gave far more to Europe though, some was negative, some positive and some is hard to gauge what would have happened. The conquering of lands, movement of peoples, spread of Christianity, the destruction of Celtic culture was all down to the Romans, the Greeks had zero to do with it.
The greek's destroyed themselfs too quickly with democracy. The roman's lasted a lot longer thanks to their republican constitution, and were as such able to conquer the known world.
Unfortunately for the roman's their constitution crumbled under the weight of empire.
only the Athenians had democracy
@otterman68
Only Athenians with their cultural and naval power had a real shot at lasting influence. Had they not abused their position The might not have divided and collapsed the aliance
