Given that Halloween is the country's second-largest commercial holiday and has pagan roots
A lot of religious Christian holidays have pagan roots. Should we ban Easter and Christmas too, Mexican day of the dead?
Halloween is 3 days in the Catholic calender, it was generally only celebrated by Scottish and Irish catholics but became culturally mainstream in America.
Hallows Eve or Halloween is the eve before All Saints day. Christians prepare themselves with a Nightly vigil and with fasting.
All Saints' Day is a holy day to honour all the saints and martyrs, it's a principal feast day in the christian church.
All Souls' Day is a day to remember and honour all the faithful departed Christians especially family members and friends.
Would you ban Christmas trees also?
Yes it should be banned
No! Halloween is fun. Carved pumpkins, corn mazes, haunted houses, yard decorations, kids in costumes, games, parties, fall foods.
Besides, I love pagan traditions, especially those from Ireland. Christians who brand them as Satanic are brain damaged.
Fundamentalist Protestant Christians are no fun at all.
And they don't know history. Do they even know why Christmas is celebrated near the end of winter? Early Christians couldn't stop Romans from celebrating Saturnalia, so they changed the reason for the celebration and let them continue celebrating.
Do they know the origins of the Christmas tree or other Christmas traditions?
The more ignorant of the history of their faith, the more rigidly dogmatic they become! Great answer!!
YES!!! Celebrate All Saints day, not pagan/evil Halloween.

If we ban every pagan holiday then we have to ban Christmas trees too. That has nothing to do with the arabic jewish man that was Jesus Christ and his birth in the middle east. Also Easter cannot have anything to do with bunnies or eggs as that’s a sign of the pagan Easter fertility festival. Also, the tooth fairy is pagan, so we have to ban that as well. Paying children for their baby teeth will become a crime of sorts. And if we’re banning any holidays that have nothing to do with Christ, we’ll also have to ban Thanksgiving.
Yeah. I don't see any of these anti-catholic Christians spinning draddles or smearing lamb blood on their door at passover
I think it’s spelled dreidel
No. There isn't a reason to. Just don't dress up & give out candy if you don't want to celebrate Halloween. But for those that do just let them, they're having fun and so are their kids. As for other adults, they have parties or get-togethers & dress up.
Halloween was one of my favorite days in my younger years.
Now, it's just another day of the year.
Although I miss it, I no longer have the stamina to enjoy having the kiddies coming to my door.
My younger neighbors take up my slack.
Happy Halloween to all those who revel on All Hallows Eve.
I think Halloween is just mostly for the candy and pumpkin carving than it is about worshiping the devil or paganism. I enjoy visiting the pumpkin patch and eating pumpkin everything, except the pumpkin spice latte bs
Going against social norms. Strangers giving children candy, all the slutty outfits get dusted..
you're absolutely right though, Halloween season makes a shit tone on money.
... as opposed to? Christmas is basically Yule with more shepards and fewer intestines; Saint Valentine's day is Lupercalia with edible underwear and less sex; May Day is Beltane without bonfires or psychosexual Greek goodness; and Thanksgiving is... well, okay, there's not really any Pagan connection there.
It needs to go back to being a day not a season. Early Christians never had a problem with it so why should they today.
Pagan is only a bad thing to Christians or those who are ignorant to not know what pagan means.
Therefore no as religious dogma shouldn't control whether people can celebrate something or not.
No, that would damage the economy. There's a substantial commerce in Halloween products. Banning something is often a bad idea. Just look at Prohibition in the US... banning alcohol was a complete failure.
How could it be banned? Are you going to remove October 31 and add a day to September or November? The US is not in any sense a Christian nation. At this point, Christians are a bare majority. Only about 1 in 10 attend church weekly.
The first few replies here made all the points that first came to mind for me. The other one, somewhat beneath that is, why is so much of Christianity so terrified that someone, somewhere may having a good time?
Why? So cartels can start smuggling low priced candy and Halloween costumes for profit, instead of drugs and guns?
Not until I get some free drugs inserted into candy like right wing media has been promising for the last 4 decades.
As for Halloween if you ban it for having pagan roots you are going to have to ban Christmas as well because surprise surprise that has pagan roots too.
It is the only time one can mask up and do whatever you want without people knowing who you are. I was in Vegas once dress up and mask up. It was a fun night because no one knows who is under that mask.
I say no because paganism generally isn't bad. The media portrays it as being bad so we think all of it is bad.
I don't mind much, we're not big on Halloween here anyway, it's mostly an imported cultural thing with a color given by market, not people.
Should the authoritarian pieces of excrement who are in political offices dictate which celebrations on which days people who are not violating the person or property of another can have? I think my question answered my position on it.
Nope Halloween is the best holiday. I love handing out treats to all the neighborhood kiddos
No definitely not. It's a fun day for both kids and adults.
Fuck off with that shit. Hell no. Halloween rocks. Who said the Pagans were so bad? The Bible plagiarizes a large portion of their texts and beliefs
Good for economy for buy costumes decorating n candy, so no ban.
"Halloween is the country's second-largest commercial holiday"
"has pagan roots"
How do either of these ^ justify banning the holiday? I'm genuinely interested in your thought process here.
If anything, let’s ban all holidays. Also birthdays since they force people to spend their money.
It’s not a thing in my country. People are busy preparing for and celebrating Diwali during this time of the year so I couldn’t care less
Diwali is 🔥🔥🔥 many south indians here and all their different religious traditions have awesome celebrations!!
Yes I get pissed with kids knocking on my door saying trick or treat expecting me to give them sweets and getting upset when I squirt them in their faces with a big water soaker
Ebenezer scrooge?
@Gwendoline that's jus humbug lol. What ever happened to penny for the guy mischief night and bonfire night. All this Halloween nonsense is just another step towards the complete Americanisation of the UK 🇬🇧
Then take it apon yourself to not celebrate it. No ones forcing you
Why are you a killjoy AND oppose capitalism? Hell no!
It's here to stay so doesn't matter what people think.
No, of course not! It's the perfect day on which to profess my love for Satan.
No, it's just a silly holiday were people wear costumes and eat candy.
no. let kids have some fun.
Halloween only happened once a year. If that's the case, let's also Christmas and Easter.
Happens
*Happens
Let's also *ban Christmas and Easter
You are not going to ban some holiday that people make money on.
Yes, ban it. Keep those little shits away from my door.
Hell no! Halloween is fun!
