Did you hear about the president of South Korea declaring martial law?

The parliament voted against the declaration and the troops have left again. But people are still all buzzed from these events. People inside the parliament used furniture to blockade the doors to try and stop the troops from coming in.

People are of course very worried since there is a long history of people trying to grab power by force. But it seems like this time it won't work. It was a desperate attempt but nobody was going to go along with it.

The troops actually broke into parliament through windows to try and do what they were told to do but thankfully parliament could vote down martial law before things escalated too much. It was actually a show of force by the pro democracy people in the end. They reacted very quickly and decisively and were united and that's what made it impossible for this crazy power grab to succeed.
