Do you think ACTUAL gender equality would be good for society? Is it only good, in your opinion, for certain parts of society? Are you someone who does not believe in gender equality---why is that?

I truly believe you're talking about EQUITY: fairness or justice in the way people are treated.

Because men and women aren't EQUAL. They are different and have some distinct needs/limitations.

No one should suffer violence against them for any reason. Equal pay for equal work. Equal opportunities for the list you provided: education, work, benefits, sports etc...

But there are some roles/jobs where typical males or females might have trouble fitting. For instance, I cannot lift 50 pounds. (or I can for 15 seconds). Therefore I cannot be an AT&T wire technician or a FedEx or Big Brown delivery person.

There are a few women who are tall enough and strong enough to do this. I'm not one of them and never was. I'm also 68. Too old to be punishing my body with such hard work.

I can't complain that it's UNFAIR that AT&T or FedEx won't hire me for these jobs. I cannot physically do them! However, I could be an excellent plumber because I can fit into small spaces, or an HVAC person or electrician. Not much heavy lifting and with worker cooperation, just about anything can get done. There are programs focusing on hiring women for such jobs.

But physical differences can limit us in SOME jobs. Everyone has to be reasonable about such limitations. This goes for men too.

And remember gender is very fluid because everyone expresses gender in a broad swath. Your biological SEX influences how you move in the world. Has nothing to do with what you wear or who you have sex with: that's about gender expression. Gender is a social construct. Sex is a biological construct.

The two sometimes overlap, but it's crucial to know the difference.
Lasly, no two PEOPLE are equal. I'm dumb, he's smart. I'm short, he's tall. I'm great at math, he's great at English. All advantages and limitations according to what you need or want to do! And none of the previous have anything to do with what sex or gender expression you have. Everyone's brains are wired differently.

This is what diversity, equity and inclusion has been about. Including people who've been overlooked or underrepresented because they weren't cookie cutter visions of the people who were hiring them: white males of certain ages.

People who are neuro atypical, disabled in some manner, with some forms of mental illness. Everyone, well just about everyone, has some set of skills. You have no idea what PACKAGE those skills are wrapped in. That is what EQUITY is about:

Finding the gifts that all of us have, celebrating them and enriching us all.

I won’t read into any of this. It’s a good question to think of at some point and really acknowledge and also be a bit fair as possible and respectful, but all in all I think people have too much time on their hands for this to be the main concern. I think everyone needs to simply do what they need to do. Focus on careers and all. If anyone wants anything to happen petitions and tactful protests need to be made if necessary none of this silly arguing back and north and belittling of sorts to either side. It’s a huge waste of time. I’d like to see a “gender war” between two 95 year olds who cannot even bring a spoon up to their mouth and feed themselves. Life and death are pretty equal. Live your life and who cares what anyone thinks of that. 🤷‍♀️

There is no such thing as gender equality. Occupational injury deaths 93% are men. What does that mean? They do all the dangerous jobs. When things get dangerous or difficult women will always use their status as women to avoid trouble but at the same time men should not get any reward or recognition for taking on this burden and responsibility. Women still expect men to take on their gender role. If there was a war tomorrow women would expect men to handle it but they should never get paid a lot for it. Because that would be unfair.

During Covid when both men and womens workplace deaths went down the media reported it as a bad thing. Because less men were dying so the percentage of womens deaths went from 7 to 8% and the media said this is concerning and a problem. Women are 20% of homicide victims worldwide but get like 95% of the news coverage.

Equal access to education: Women have been overtaking men since the 1990s and nobody sees it as a problem women still get preferential treatment in education. Like more scholarships, more likely to be accepted by universities etc. The same goes for a lot of job applications as well by the way.

Distribution of resources: Men pay more taxes and women pay less taxes but get more government support.

Women actually get a lot of benefits from being the gender that gives birth to children. Society values that A LOT, which is justified. But it doesn't seem like a lot of women are even aware of this or appreciate this or ever mention this in any way.

There is no equality and there never will be equality and most people are fine with that. But what's obnoxious is when people only look at one aspect and claim they want equality to push for specific benefits for women and then also give a free lecture to everyone. The big picture can never be acknowledged or discussed. Every discussion has to be centered around the perspective of women, anything else is hateful.

That is what "equality" means today.

Do I think biological men and women are "equal". No, we are a heterosexual reproducing species. There will always be differences between a male and a female. That's the biology we've evolved.

But we've also evolved to be self aware intelligent beings. We can think about abstract concepts like good and bad, right and wrong, criminal and virtuous, fairness and cheating. So in that regard, is it fair that we would deny half the human race voting rights, a voice in how they are governed and how they are treated in a society? Is it fair that we would deny half the human race property rights based on their gender? Should women be entitled to equal pay if they do equal work? Do they deserve equal access to education and housing? Do women deserve equal rights for access to certain things that are crucial to a person's freedom and pursuit of happiness?

Or should women be the property of men and kept barefoot and pregnant to move between the kitchen and the bedroom to serve men like a car, or a horse, or a slave?

I don't see how anyone who isn't sick or twisted by religion can argue that half the human race is not equal and should not have equal rights because the other half is pathetically insecure about their own privilege.

For sure, but everything within reason. For instance, men shouldn't get to vote on issues that entirely concern only women, and vice versa. I may not fully agree with limitless abortion in all instances, but at the end of the day, that is a female issue - even though it does have societal repercussions.

And I dunno where this happened, but in some country, I think it was South Korea, there was some kind of referendum where people got to vote on whether to extend obligatory service in the military or not - the issue was that women also got to vote on it even though they are not required by law to be drafted. They shouldn't have had the right to vote on that one.

Generally, yes, but there are some physical realities that prevent 100% equality. We can't just pretend that isn't true just because there is an ideal of perfect equality.

DEI is about trying to force "equality" by implementing quotas, lowering standards for less qualified people based on their race, gender, or sexual orientation. That's been a disaster and we are going to be cleaning up that mess for years.

There's no reason a woman can't be a doctor, lawyer, judge, scientists, airline pilots, CEOs, or president. But there are good reasons that we don't have female Spec Ops soldiers - the vast majority of men can't qualify either, and lowering the standards risks everyone's lives.

There are very few such opportunities that are closed to women, and they aren't closed due to misogyny, but for practical reasons. Note that there are jobs that are effectively closed to men too, but men don't complain because we understand the reasons for it.

The vast majority of opportunities are open to anyone, limited primarily by MERIT. If you want a better opportunity, be better. Show that you can provide more value than other candidates. Understand THEIR priorities, and then show them that you can solve their problems more effectively and efficiently.

I've never cared about the gender of the person I was hiring - I cared about who could do the job the best, with the least management hassles. That's how any smart business will operate.

I agree that gender equality is important, but I think it needs to be broader and be viewed as human equality. I don't agree with the image on this post's representation of gender equality. Women are not men and vice versa. I believe, in regard to gender, we are equal, but different. There are things inherent to being male or female that are just different and those things, in my mind, should be appreciated and celebrated. They can also be seen as ways that the different genders can contribute to balancing our world out.

There's two questions that came to mind about coercion.
Should a man who has sex without the intention of making a woman pregnant be expected to become a parent in spite of procedures being available after conception to prevent this going through? Is that coercion into unwanted parenthood and responsibility?
Secondly in reverse, should a man who has sex WITH the intention of hopefully making a woman pregnant and it happening be denied the child that would be born if the pregnancy is ended artificially? It's not coercion but the dilemma of post conception termination that seems only available to women and not men when it comes to bodily autonomy and parental rights.

Not even identical twins can have equality. One will be "loved" more than the other, one will have different opportunities from the other, one will have their own way of thinking from the other, etc etc.

By wrongly pushing "equality" since the 1800's all these civil rights, women's rights and various movements, got taken for the same ride by conniving "democratic" politicians. They played all these groups against one another using the false premise of "equality" being something "universal" - when in fact it isn't.

That's a question I actually do not understand. Is it not obvious that male and female are two aspects of the same truth, similar to the right and left hand? Being equal does not mean having the same features, but in any case the same value, even whatever gender individuals feel they belong to.

Every individual has tendencies and capacities that may come in useful to the community, and up to the involved individuals and their educators to discover and develop those capacities in order to feel accomplished useful members of humanity. The gender is only one of those many features.

Being unequal is simply being different, this is a fact. Trying to iqnore it and put women or men into situations better suited to the biological capabilities of the other is just making both of their lives more difficult and less rewarding in the end.

That is why soo few people are happy today men or women in the post-feminism world. We have been pressed into a position for which we aren't naturally suited.

Yes at work! I don't believe in gender equality in a relationship. At home, I want to be the woman and I want my man to be the man.

Outside of home, it is not fair that me and a male colleague have work same jobs, take same exams, and be rewarded differently. Now biologically speaking, there are certain jobs that are fit for women better than they are fit for men and granted genders will gravitate towards these naturally. But just like a male nurse should not be discrimiated against for being a male, or a chef should not be discrimiated against for being a male or a designer or a teacher. These jobs were traditionally more fit for a woman.

I think this generation of men also value spending time with family so as society shifts to equal standards for both gender, men should take time off to see their newborn and be more present with their family.

Treatment and advancement should be the same for everyone and not adjusted for their sex. I would love to see the courts use fair and true gender equality in divorce and custody cases.

In Western countries, the law broadly treats everyone the same. If anything the law leans towards favouring women, certainly the justice system does.
Unfortunately I think gender equality gets mixed up with feminism, which has its own agenda.

Exactly equal is impossible due to biological differences, so I say yes to an extent. We all deserve to live properly.
