No more or less than a human force.
First of all, AI is designed by human beings. One of the compelling facts about religion is its ability to highlight how impossible it is to remove the birthmarks of our creator (s), no matter how desperately we want to be different.
Second, hackers. Every computer system on the planet is vulnerable and most have already been hacked repeatedly. The “secure” ones are unbelievably expensive to maintain. Ever notice how our government never spends the big bucks on serving and protecting its citizens?
Lastly, in the highly unlikely event that AI could cognitively evolve differently from humans in literally the exact same environment, that only makes them prone to new types and elevations of corruption that we haven’t observed in ourselves… yet.

This topic, the moral consequences of giving any governing or authority power to any AI has been discussed in thousand works of fiction. The answer is almost always the same: Dystopia

As long as AI cannot suffer then it cannot understand people. And if it doesn't understand people then it's a form of cognitive power emotionally impaired. In short, dumb. Dumbness will harm us. Because that's already what dumb people do, they are hurtful without even knowing or understanding damage they create.

Side note. One famous work of fiction showed a fully intelligent AI, as in cognitively and emotionally literate. This fictional AI, R. Giskard Reventlov, comes from Asimov's Robot Series.

The world isn't clear cut and neither is a lot of what the police deal with. AI might be able to handle black and white situations fine but the nuance in how humans are will complicate everything from intent, context and morals.

Can we really train empathy? The consistent and cold indifference... I don't think it be made to "understand" why someone would do something for example. Or why there's an "outlier" to all the info it infers from. Doesn't justice need more than just efficiency?

Yes, AI should be autonomous but its rights as cops should be just limited to observation and warnings. No force especially deadly force allowed to AI. Abuse potential is too high for giving AI weapons even non lethal ones. Otherwise a non corrupt autonomous police camera that observes and ensures everything is lawful seems to be welcome.

AI programmed to be as brutal, hostile, and Anti-Human as possible would make things worse.

I was inspired when I saw local police forced to go into their communities they serve in and talk to residents, have fun conversation with children, also check up on people and how they are doing also meet with shopkeepers in a friendly manner which reduced the crime in the region also reduced hostile police action.
With AI, you can’t get this… They are given programming from their enforcers and can be extremely difficult to deal with. I wouldn’t trust AI over our human officers in that regard.

There are many issues that can arise from this. I can attest to this because I used to work in public safety.

Officers are often dispatched to mental health emergencies where one is suicidal or a potential danger to themselves or others in some capacity. Officers are often the one's to sign for an involuntary mental health hold. Officers also may sometimes need to render first aid in a medical emergency. These are very vulnerable situations that need very careful emotional intelligence and an understanding of a situation. Also, you may have individuals who are autistic, non-verbal, or have a developmental or intellectual disability. These are very fragile situations that I feel a robotic police force is incompetent to handle.

Yup. Cops are subjective, AI would not be hopefully. Therefore it can throughly solve the issue without any bias. And any argument to no because it's tech... I just smile at them because it's cute they don't understand tech is all around them working automatically a lot more than they think.

Something like 50% of a policeman's work is paperwork, 25% is on the beat. the rest is in various duties. A so called "AI force" would free up at least 75% of a policeman work for far less cost, and far more efficiency.

Yes, humans make mistakes, but other humans on the force can check them independently. Any AI police force would be all the same (or similar) software and they'd all make the same mistake, no independent checks.

Ai think logically and do not use any emotions. While that may seem good at first, certain situations require empathy. For example and old lady trying to cross the road. The ai will only see it as a violation, not as someone in need of help and assistance.
