Most of the girls/women love it and I'm one of them. They look sooooo pretty and the best thing is they fade after few days so it you get bored or simply didn't like the design once the mehendi dries and you wash your hands, you just have to wait for few days, lol.
I remember going out with my Papa as a little girl and my dad knew how much I liked mehendi when he saw a lady did the business of "instant mehendi stamp" and these were made of tea something and you just have to show her your palm and she stamps your favourite design, you don't have to keep your palm straight like traditional mehendi. It just leaves an instant colour (bit different than the original ones) I remember feeling so happy and I was jumping with joy while holding my Papa's hand, lol. But I still prefer the original one
When I go to weddings, a professional mehendi artist draw mehendi on me but I go to weddings rarely so sometimes when I'm with friends and if they want to try drawing mehendi/sharpen their skill- I'm the first one to volunteer 🤣
Anyway, it's very common here and many women don't even wait for events to get mehendi on their hands, lol.

Asker11 moSo what's the whole thing behind it cause I do believe it looks pretty, it kinda gives like some princess on the top of a tower vibes, gold crown with diamonds and the whole shindoo, I remember someone explaining it to me one time but I think I forgot, from what I recall it's a good thing and the meaning was just as good as how it looks lol
m 11 moAwwww, I'm glad you appreciate the designs and how they look π We do feel like princesses especially the bride when we have mehendi on our palms.
So, the thing is before the girl gets married there are few events/ceremonies. I don't know whether you know about haldi ceremony, sangeet and also mehendi before the wedding day. So, the bride has all these women around her celebrating, singing, dancing while she's getting mehendi drawn on both of her hands and also her feet (some brides skip that). There's an old belief that if your mehendi turns very dark soon after you wash it off, it means that your husband loves you a lot. So, the deeper the colour of mehendi, the more bride gets happy because she feels my husband deeply loves me! Other girls also put mehendi on their hand but brides are more detail oriented and nowadays some professional artist even draw couple's love story on brides hands
Also, while husband's names' initial is secretly added in the mehendi. So, he can find it later. It's kinda cute.
You mean sindoor? Married women wear that to indicate that she's married and also believe that wearing sindoor is like a pray for the long life and well being of her husband. Also, red is considered as an auspicious colour. It represents some good things.
Not only women wear mehendi as a bride but also on karwa chauth every year (a day for the husbands)
Asker11 moKinda wild to imagine that before all this they would most likely use it to give their not so good looking potatoes their color by dyeing it or something π
Nah foreal tho, I think it looks cool, it kinda gives the plain skin a more complex cosmetic design and can look somewhat appealing to the eyes, the symbolism drawn into it sounds pretty cool too, the idea of it is all cool, I didn't think it was a marriage thing tho, I thought it was just like a self respect thing where anyone can do it kinda like a pride of their self value and stuff, or something like that π€
m 11 moPotatoes π€£π€£π€£π€£π€£π€£π€£
Oh no, no.. it isn't just something women prefer to have at weddings. Any girl/woman can wear it anytime. It depends on the mood. It looks super pretty but having wet mehendi on your palms also means you can't touch anything for few hours as you don't wanna smudge it and so you keep your hands straight like The Great Mummy π€£π€£ Since people can't be away from their phone or without touching anything for few hours, it's not something we do often but whenever we want to feel pretty even if we aren't going to wedding or any event. We simply get mehendi done on our hands especially Arabic designs as drawing that doesn't take much time and wear ethnic clothes, bangles, earrings and stuff, lol
Asker11 moDoes it have to be the hands tho because isn't there other options that don't require needing to leave your phone for hours? Like the arm or even more upper like the shoulders, I think the arm and shoulder are good spots, like a tattoo thing lol
And why does it take so long to dry? a few hours sounds like the instructions you get when mixing cement π
It's legit skin cement, wait if they do the feet does that mean they can't walk for hours? π
m 11 moYou can get mehendi tattoo on other spots too (brides almost 60 percent of their arms are covered in mehendi and also get mehendi tattoo on their feet and ankle)
I personally like the look on my palms and I usually get them on back of my hand and my palm as the colour is comparatively lighter on other spots like shoulder. I don't know why it gets best shade only on palms π
LMAO! I just said few hours just to be safe π€£ It usually take an hour or bit more but if you don't leave it alone even after dry and keep touching other stuff when your mehendi is dry, it will start flaking. You'll have dry mehendi bits everywhere and I think maybe they don't want you to wash hands for few hours even after mehendi is dry because they believe hands touching and rubbing on surfaces and stuff will affect the process maybe colour won't be as good. I don't know, lol. I just sleep after getting mehendi tattoo π€£ when I wake up, I don't have to worry about mehendi being smudged or anything. π
We don't put mehendi on the bottom of our feet, lol
Asker11 moWait so you telling me you cheat on the tone thing? It's suppose to be like a fate thing isn't it? If it gets darker the husband loves you a lot, you put it on your palms cause you've found the secret to make it darker based on the location, you slick af, that way the guy will always love you a lot π
You are a straight up villain π
Although the henna sleeve must look so fire, if you ever did that flower pedal removal game, you'd never change what you say, it's suppose to be he loves me *removes flower pedal, he doesn't love me *removes pedal* he loves me *removes another pedal* and so on
Yours would just be he loves me, he loves me, he loves me, he loves me as you go through all the flower pedals π
m 11 moHey I don't cheat, lol. But I know some who do π§ Apparently some women heat up clove (known as lavang spice. Not talking about garlic cloves) and bring their hand close to tawa (cookware) and I saw that and asked "what are you doing?" She told me that if you bring your hands close to this, cloves will make the colour go darker. It's guaranteed, lol. I was like That's cheating!!
LMAO ! I wish!! I want to be a villian but I'm still comparatively an angel. I mean I'm not trying to change the destiny and indirectly hypnotize the guy that you'll love me. You will have to love me dammit π€£
ROFLMAO!!! What an example π€£π€£π€£ That sounds about right if I do cheat.π€£ But I don't need to ask my mehendi always take a deep maroonish shade. By the way here's one more fact-
Mehndi gets much darker the day after you take it off. When you take it off it's dark orange after few hours it's dark red the next day it turns the darkest so I just know I have to be patient for a day without going through that much trouble of heating up something, lol. This is Sensei Genie's motto "Patience, you must have" x)
Asker11 moSo you know the untimate trick, it's so ultimate it's not even considered cheating, that's a totally wild af π
So people actually cheat on it? I was joking, I thought it was just something that always turns dark, wait so for some people it doesn't change color? They just wait but it never happens? π
You've got that hypnotic powers, it's the last level to master as a sensei, which you already have if you are speaking like Yoda lol
m 11 moπ
It does turn dark but on some girls hand it doesn't turn that dark so they cheat, lol. I mean it turns light reddish but not dark brown or deep maroon so they aren't satisfied until their mehendi shade gets darkest, lol.
LMAO! Stop exposing me π or I'll start exposing you too![Do people still do that henna stuff anymore?]()
But yeah... You got that right, lol
Asker11 moYou already killed me twice, what makes you think I won't expose you again lol
So it changes colors til it reaches dark red, noted π€ π- 10 mo
Mention of Henna reminds me of my cousin's wedding where few of my cousins put henna on my hands while I was sleeping because I refused to apply it π
Asker10 moWhy didn't they just accept that you didn't want to apply it π

There's no thing like boundaries and privacy in Indian families π
Asker10 moThat's not just invading your privacy they are invading your opinions as well π
m 10 mo@Apulu_backagain What? π³ Girl, what they did was not okay π Just imagine what if you suddenly felt like putting your palm on your face like sleeping. Mehendi on your face π
Luckily, my family and loved ones always took my no for an answer even when I was a kid. So, this never happened to me. Next time you're at a wedding and refuse to have mehendi. Just tell them if you girls do that again, I'll make sure to get up right in time to hug you and grab your pretty face to give a kiss on cheek because I love you soooo much, sis. That should scare them a bit. π
- 10 mo
Well they did that because I said I was gonna do some studying after the nap and wedding is no place to study
But damn, that's a genius idea! I'll do that next time! - 10 mo
Yeah back in 10th grade lol. I was preparing for half yearly.
Now I'm in 12th grade and again there's another wedding in the family. Sikes.
m 10 mo@Apulu_backagain Ah!! That explains π All the best for your exams!!
(I was thinking about posting a question about grey hair an hour ago but I changed my mind as thinking about board exams reminded me how I got two grey hair strands. One at the age of 14 before appearing for 10th and second at the age of 16 before appearing for 12th. I don't bother hiding them with hair colour as they rarely ever show up like once in blue moon. )
I can understand how stressful it can be but please give yourself some time to rest and have fun too as it will help you revise things easily when you're less stressed. Take care!- 10 mo
Oh well I already plucked out like 5 grey strands of hair in 11th grade lol , I'm in science stream and my subject combination was English, physics, chemistry, maths, biology π. It's better now because I changed from biology to economics.
- 10 mo
Same! I hate chemistry so much like it just doesn't make sense lol.
And thanks!

It doesn't have to be only a Muslim thing, no, but Hindus are super rare here, compared to Muslims. So logically my best choice is Muslim lol
