Revolutionists don't care about their ideology. If the regime Che was born was communist I think he would turn fascist. Such people love violence and system destabilization and ideology is just a tool for them.
Of course he was charismatic as well as soviet propaganda that was active in Latin America promoted him in the public as face of the revolution but then others took the reign.
