Oh, having no money is no fun generally. There's considerable anxiety if you can't pay the rent or put food on the table or afford healthcare. That's easy enough for almost anyone to understand.
But having a lot of money can be a trap as well, a gilded cage that can ruin you in other ways you don't notice until it's too late.
Once you have money, keeping it can consume you.
Anxiety of losing wealth can drive people sorta insane,
More can become not enough.
You become addicted to self gratification. Because you can.
You start to ignore your kids and your wife or husband.
You send your kids to the best boarding schools 9 months of the year and summer camp every summer. You tell yourself you're doing it for them but you know it's because you don't want to be bothered with them.
You wall yourself off behind a gated community.
You lose touch with reality.
Your kids grow up weak, never experiencing reality, and become easy targets for parasites and con men, drugs, and alcohol.
Meanwhile you have trust issues and no real friendships because paranoia seeps in through your insecurities.
And at age 25 or so your kids no longer want to be bothered by you... if it wasn't for your the inheritance money.
I can't tell you how many times I've seen this and sat and had conversations with wealthy people who are 50 -70 and looking back on wasted lives of self indulgence, drug addiction, trashed relationships, and a mountain of regrets they cannot fix with money. These people are tortured and miserable. Despite the Rolex, the estate, and the Bentley. Be careful what you wish for. Few people are strong enough to manage wealth and wield power.
Personally I'm thankful I didn't come into real wealth until later in life when my personality was already formed I had the experience to see the traps and the strength to avoid them.
Money can’t “buy” happiness. But it can allow someone the freedom and flexibility to chase after happiness.
While having no money means you’re in survival mode all the time, unhappy and unable to take the time to search for that happiness because you need to figure out your next meal
I think over a certain sum, your happiness doesn't increase, I have seen some studies about this
For example, between 250k$ yearly and 500k$ yearly there isn't much difference, you can save up for retirement faster, sure, but you have the same lifestyle.
I disagree. There are many rich people who have suicides because they were depressed. Money does help you to have the material things you want in life. It also helps with your health and appearance. But the truth is, as long as you have love in your life... people who support and have faith in you, listen to you and understand you... people who will always give your their time... there's nothing that causes happiness more than that.

I know a couple of people who are really wealthy and they do not seem very happy. I think that money does not buy happiness but poverty can make you miserable.
Happiness is highly emotional thing and has many facets. Rewarding yourself with materialistic things can be a part of happiness, for this is money important.
Money buys necessities and or luxuries, and certain behaviors. Happiness stems from the absence of fear, and is different for everyone. Can money insure the latter? It can surely help.
Disagree, look how many rich people kill themselves or drown their sorrows in alcohol and drugs until they die. Money definitely makes life easier but it doesn’t make you happy.

I agree and disagree with Sam, it's complicated.

I would say it's those who have it would say this more
I believe that it does buy some people happiness because they are living their lives the way they choose to. Not with bread crumbs.
