How do you decide who gets the master bedroom when living with a roommate?

So me and my cousin are moving in together. We can't come to a agreement who get's the master because I want it and she wants it.I don't wanna do the flip a coin or pull a card out of a hat. What are some other ways we can decide?

Are you both on the lease? If only one of you is, then that person gets it.

Is either one of you paying more than the other? If so, then that person gets it.

Who has more stuff? That person gets it.

Do either of you have a boyfriend that will be staying with you? If only one of you does, that person gets it.

Which one could kick the others' ass? That person gets it :D

If you can't come up with some objective way to decide it, then you're just going to have to either sit down and talk about it, with one of you sacrificing the room for something else in return. Or flip a coin. You could always take it for half the lease, then move your furniture around and let her take it the other half but that's kind of a lot of work.

Yea I have been reading whoever pays most or brings more furniture.Well my name will be on the lease because her credit is bad. I will supply all furniture all but her bedroom . But it will be equal rent payed.

Well then I say since you're going to be the only one on the lease, then it's not only fair but probably better for you to take it. Since she's not on the lease, she can technically leave whenever she wants without consequence (unless you two sign some kind of agreement). That kind of power for her should be countered by you making at least some of the rules to living there.

I totally agree. But a part of me feels bad for putting her in the smaller room. Because she will think that I'm throwing it in her face for having more and paying more. A part of me wishes I would have continued to presue living alone. But its a new city so I didn't want to be totally alone

Yeah but that's just how it is when you're living with someone in an arrangement like that. You can still be friends and get a place together, but it's still something of a "business deal" as well and you can't ignore that.

Bid for it. Both of you should write down on a piece of paper how much you'd be willing to pay for the room. Whoever puts down the bigger number gets the room and has to pay that amount.

Done. You pay a bit more and take the room. She'll benefit because she'll pay a bit less for the smaller room. If she's got a problem with it, she can pay more for the bigger room.

Here's a good way to resolve this. One of you pick how much rent each room should pay. Then the OTHER person picks which room she wants. Neither one can be upset then.
