The reason why I stopped posting on Instagram

Hi Everyone its been a while and I have been swamped lately with graduating from college to preparing for law school. I wanted to talk about why I stopped posting on Instagram and Facebook and why I think social media can be toxic.

When I joined Instagram in mid 2000s I remembered it being about what people was doing. There was no Instagram thots, bots, plastic models, fashion nova influences etc. Back when Instagram was created you could post anything without worrying about the amount of likes you received on a photo (I may be wrong but thats how I viewed it). Later on over the years I saw how Instagram was slowly starting to change. When I arrived as a freshman in college Instagram have already changed however I noticed that what I posted had to have a certain amount of likes to gain popularity at my school. Here's why im saying this. I remember when I was in college students would make fun of me calling me ugly and say thats why I wasn't getting too many likes on a photo. As I tried to change up my looks I noticed that my likes were increasing but not as much. However I would noticed girls at my school who weren't that pretty getting 300 or more likes meanwhile I only was getting 45. I noticed overtime basically that I was trying to look a certain way to gain likes. Eventually I got tired of doing this a was becoming depressed over it which was why I stopped posting on Instagram and if I do post its on my story. Many people felt like I should not of stopped posting due to likes but I felt like for me it was starting to become embrassing and I backed away from social media (especially during the pandemic). I noticed when I stopped posting pictures of myself for likes I started loving my self more and I was starting to become more positive about thoughts about myself! Overall I just wanted to share this story because I know others are going through the same thing with Instagram likes and I wanted to let those people know that you're not alone. The amount of likes you get on a photo does not mean your less beautiful or less popular. No matter what you should always love yourself regardless of the likes you receive on a picture. I left Instagram because I'm too old and I only know one woman on there.
I got bored quickly and started trolling the comment sections. All the celebrity videos constantly loading on my feed drained my data.
Instagram is cool to follow celebrities and tell them your thoughts, but everything else in there is just people showing off and pretending that their lives are amazing.
They don't post pictures of the bad stuff though.
This one woman I visit with on facebook has thousands of friends and people liking her posts, but secretly she told me she thinks about ending her life sometimes.
Everything online is not always how it appears.

Here is what I did...
I purchased like-packages from the get - go when I made my account. You can buy comments too.
At least that way you can still get engagement from the people you want without worrying about what they may or may not think depending on what like count was present when they swiped to see your photo.

Yeah I wasn't that desperate for likes and comments where I had to purchase them. I also heard there's a high chance of your account being deleted if Instagram finds out you're buying likes and comments.

I deleted my personal IG & FB like a year ago. I only use IG for business. I've been off social media in a "social sense" for exactly a year. I recently came on G@G like a few weeks ago. It was a great relief. Hope this inspires to do the same.

I rarely post on insta and when I do maybe it's a dozen likes or even less. I don't let it affect my self esteem; instagram is not my life or even 1% of it. It's just an entertainment waste of time/social interaction/media. My instagram is super "pathetic" in how little I post and how totally unengaging, with no filters, no creativity and careful construction put into making it so appealing. I just put a thought or an unprofessionally designed random photo I shot. But friends don't seem to mind and I don't worry about it.

I was never a big fan of instagram. On facebook I post things that I like. I don't post anything that is going on in my private life. I keep my friend circle small. Those people know what is going on in my life. I don't care who likes what I post or if I even get any likes.

It's nice to know but it's the whole picture when it all comes together that matters when it comes to attraction.
Like there was this one girl at school who was kinda average but all the guys wanted her. Was looking at some old pics and there were hotter girls but there was just something about her, like you got an erection just talking to her.

I'm really glad you decided to value your self worth by divorcing it from "likes" on social media. I hope your post will help others do the same.

I’ve never cared about who likes or doesn’t like my post on social media. I’m me like it or not people usually follow me and if I don’t know them or they aren’t family I block them.

Yes I don’t need followers to feel good about myself. I use it to show family pictures of me and my kids. Not for likes and dislikes

Good call. I think I was on Facebook for a year or two. The only social media I have was / is LinkedIn, YouTube, and some forums like this.

I learned overtime that who likes me or not doesn’t matter. I respect my self for who I am and like me or not I am not going to be sad!
