Has anyone Had an Online Scam occur Lately?

I get scam messages almost everyday. I got this very hilarious scam call. The person in other line was saying, "Sir we have kidnapped your daughter. Deposit 40,034 Dollars (3 lakhs in rupees) in the account we have texted you to get her back." I replied back, "Oh sorry sir you got the wrong number, Actually I'm supposed to be kidnapped and you are supposed to call my dad. You got the daughter." lol. Such scam call still exist. I said that to my dad and he was like, "How can they kidnap you when you stay in home all day long and I don't allow you to go out in this lockdown." It seriously made my day. This happened yesterday only.
Two this week. I received was one of those McAfee emails you mentioned and the other was a guy who hacked my brother’s company Microsoft account and sent an email to a customer of ours asking him to pay into the bank account he (the hacker) provided rather than ours but luckily he (the hacker) was too late and we’d already been paid.

Oh yeah. If I'm really bored, sometimes the contents of my junk folder is quite good for a laugh...

I also have one from Isabel dos Santos (Africa's richest woman), who apparently wants to send me lots of money as well - it must be my lucky day!
I have McAfee Scan plus and McAfee safe connect, I don't know if it's safe :0
Scammed by facebook, but not directly (this is one of the things you should be careful of).
It was my aunt telling us that a friend of her was renting a house on the beach. We payed and all, got scammed obviously cause it led us to an old abandoned building. And we were so confused, until I asked her specifically where she found it and if her friend was actually renting it. Apparently it was a facebook post her friend shared on facebook and my aunt (that is 78) didn't understand how facebook works.
Be careful people.
*by the way: her friend didn't know it was a scam too

Yeah, beware of this website. Don't let the "As seen on the BBC" emblem full you. The site claims to assist you with visas and Covid related travel documents, but they charge you a bunch of money, and then either send you faulty forms, or forms that you can access for free through official embassy websites. And they make you send a selfie holding your credit card, and then don't refund you the money.
Stay away from this site! Access any travel forms you need through your country's State Department website.
I've had to advise my mother (who was at least suspicious enough to ask) about a couple of scam emails, but I've been on the Internet since the only graphical web browser was Mosaic (and was a novelty) and there were less than 10,000 websites globally. I've seen a million scams, and part of my job is network security, so it's not easy for me to fall for that crap. I rarely click links - and certainly never to places where I have to log in.
I just got an email saying they took $429 for a renewal when I had cancelled my account and went with Norton. I checked my bank account to see if it was true and it wasn't. So therefore the customer service number in the email was probably so they could scam you when you called.
I know what an online scam looks like. Means the design and all such things on a webpage, so I never fall for such scams.
When I visit some shady website, these dcams about mcafee and norton security are qlways there. These are just popups and should never be taken seriously.
I had installed my first broadband and I recieved a message for feedback. I quickly got to know it to be a scam.
I gave unrealistic answers there. Useless answers.
Regarding email scams. They are really common. As emails are available virtually anywhere so it is really easy to get them.
Not lately. A couple years ago my sister fell for the "This is Microsoft and we detected a problem on your computer" scam.
I worked for a company that had a support contract with Microsoft and it was like pulling teeth to get them to provide someone to fix an issue, so the idea that they were independently monitoring computers to find problems was laughable to me.
I used to get those. I would lead them a merry dance for as long as possible before I would "let slip" I was using Ubuntu Linux, and there is nothing wrong with my main machines. I built them both.
I work in tech support so I hear quite a lot of scam calls or fake web sites.
In the UK we don't get the banking scams where they send you out for a voucher to pay back money they pretend to have accidentally transferred to you.
Mainly it's "Microsoft" phoning people saying there is a problem with there pc saying they where hacked and trying to remote into the computer.
Loads of fake Norton/McAfee/Office activation sites that say there was an error activating which moves to either web chat or a call back and remote in the end.
Most start asking for money to install antivirus once remoted in to "fix problems".
One of my team actually said a scammer asked for money to remote in before even trying to pretend to fix there pc.
No, because I don't fall for any computer scams because I do all the computer maintenance myself. I don't buy into a strange company based out of a basement in India for my computer tech support.
Which McAfee one we talking? They normally come as pop ups claiming your computer is infected and needs an update through if the pop up it gives you.
These chodes have gotten very crafty.
Nope not to me or anyone I know. I'm very skeptical and don't tend to fall for these things.
I receive scam text messages, phone calls, emails, weekly, trying to scam me. I block them all.
Nasty criminals, shame on them! Such balls.
Yeah the most disturbing one I've ever received was attempting to extort me for money via cryptocurrency, claiming it had compromising photos it was going to release. I have also known guys on gag who were threatened like this. One had his life turned upside down and was becoming afraid to even leave his apartment. This is serious business.
Though interestingly, I've seen a documentary showing that 'romance scams' actually cost people more money than identity theft. The lure of love is just too strong to resist sometimes. And it only takes low scruples on the part of the other.
It's a complicated world. People aren't dying at the hands of swords anymore but there is treachery amongst us.
Yeah someone emailed me saying they're a hacker and have my password and Said to give him a thousand bucks. I told him to suck a d*ck. He blocked me hahahah
But he still has my password 🤣🤣
No, but I get the one's telling me my package is arriving today and to click on a link which is obviously not from a postal service a lot. I had a new one on my phone the other day saying I had won a competition from a large supermarket chain. I also had a new number from Kazakhstan try to call me the other day. Another was someone called me from a phone company I'm not with and also someone from "microsoft windows headquarters". I just hang up as soon as they introduce themselves.
They're going to have to do better that to catch me lol
In my country the government has warned us about the one involving the calls from foreign numbers.
One scam
I was on online dating and I found a girl
she looked sweet so I swiped right
but
It took her 30 seconds of chat to give me her number
when I texted her HI
She immediately video called me, When the call started she was naked and she recorded my reaction to that. I immediately cut the call and called the police and cybercrime.
YAY!
Yes. I saw something about how great an idea it was to go to college, get married, have kids, and a mortgage. Thankfully avoided. :)
You got the joke right? :D
None for me. McAfee? Never bought it. I rarely pay for software when there are good freebies about!
Use Ccleaner, or better still, Bleachbit.
Nothing online in recent weeks @Paris13 . I did have a call on my phone this morning. Apparently my Visa card was being used to make large purchases on Amazon. I don't have a Visa card. LOL
Well, my client was scammed. I have no idea why they didn't call me or someone in my company.
Well, I wouldn't touch even the legit McAfee with a ten foot pole.
Surprisingly not but I am getting more scams on my cell phone.
I don't know if this counts, but recently a few people in my country have been robbed at gunpoint by bandits after responding to online ads supposed to be about the sale of vehicles.
Nope. I take steps to protect my computer, and I've had no issues.
If I don't get at least 100 emails a day that are scams/hustles/come ons/pure BravoSierra/ whatever, that is a sloooooooooow day!
I ignore all of them. I set up a spam filter so I do not even see a lot of them.
Back when I was still learning of such things, I had a couple people TRY to scam me.
Lol. Like I said, at the time, I didn't know. After the first one tried to get me, I got wise to the others. Russian dating scammers! Then it was dating scammers from Africa!
No, but I almost never get the chance to buy anything anyway. lol Hopefully I can get a new job soon.
I've gotten scam messages. sometimes i play along with it just to troll them
i'm usually the one they called when they got scammed, so i can confirm it.
I got that one once, figured out how to get rid of it
I like to mess with them when they call. One time I had them for half an hour messing with them.
@Paris13 yes I have and just about broke me I'm just looking for real serious relationship but apparently Everytime I look I always wind up getting a scammer
Sometimes I get emails saying that my LinkedIn profile was seen "X" times and I don't even have a LinkedIn account Lol
I always block and report this kind of emails.
No but the wives father came across our profile for a lifestyle site. Her step mom said that he will be watching it and talking about how much he loves seeing her naked or fucking guys. She said that he would have to say let's do it and she is going to fuck her dad. Her mom said she was hot thinking about it and wanted to fuck me if she could.
That soft of shit makes the rounds monthly.
Norton had one similar going as well.
Does Biden, Vaccines and a pandemic count
The pandemic started under Trump. And he was President "Warp Speed" and literally claims to have created three vaccines. So it's Trump you hate. Leave Biden out of it. OK?
@supercutebutt No Biden and Trump are both idiots, I wouldn't vote for either Nazi
And yes They scam the public with poisoned Vaccines with a fake pandemic
I am triple vaxxed and alive and well, my lying friend. But all the people who got sick where I work were all unvaxxed and three ended up in the hospital. So take your BS someplace else. Sound good?
@supercutebutt I think you're freaking lying, you believe the COVID-19 shit so bad. That you're willing to die for it.
I had this so COVID-19 shit 3 times, and I'm freaking fine. I had mild flu like stuff going on. Over it in a few days. Not once did I take off work.
I worked with people that tested positive to and oh wow, they were all fine to. That's why I am glad I work and live with the Amish/Mennonites/Quakers/Illegals at lest they don't fall for this BS.
Maybe if you work outside in the sun (without chemical loaded sunscreen) did some real work and stop believing the lies of the lies of the media and the so call leaders.
Just follow the ones that are pushing the crap. Like half of Congress and Senate, all own stock in drug and vaccine makers. It's all on public record and more.
At least 75 federal lawmakers held shares of Moderna, Johnson & Johnson, or Pfizer in 2020.
Lawmakers' holding stock in these companies has prompted ethical concerns.
Several other lawmakers traded shares of companies with a direct stake in the pandemic.
Dozens of Republican and Democratic lawmakers on Capitol Hill have invested in companies that have a direct stake in the nation's response to the COVID-19 pandemic, according to an Insider analysis of federal financial records.
what to see the full thing here you go www.msn.com/.../ar-AARL2jt
Before you go on that, just one site. Here are 100s of other sites that claim the same thing
duckduckgo.com/
So why do you think they are pushing the fucking vaccines. Because they own part of the company
You are a mentally ill individual.
@supercutebutt I am the mentally ill person. I am not the one falling for this bullshit
I had a few people attempt to blackmail me over some stuff, but I called their bluff and nothing ever happened.
None that I know about
D. None, but I hear about them sometimes.
Definitely.
No but enough people playing games that are scares of spam texts
I just ignore scammers.
My business was defrauded in 2020. Pretty irate still. Thanks for bringing it up. :)
What happened exactly, what sort of scam?
@DryGermanGuy fake check that my bank cashed. Feds actually called me. But I doubt ill get my money back
@DryGermanGuy my lawyer thought so. we're still duking it out, but I'm doubtful.
No thank god for that
Haven't gotten tricked yet. I usually pick up on it... and hit delete...

No I haven’t
Some close calls
Ok Paris please give up what you know

No, seeing as I don't trust anyone or anything.
