Confused can someone help me?

Hi all. So I’ve bought a new car and I love it. I’ve noticed on the description it says it has 6 gears, I’ve looked on my gear stick in my car it says 5 gears and reverse. I’m really confused. Can someone help? Thankyou

Sometimes newer vehicles have an overdrive gear that they can’t control even in a manual transmission vehicle. It kicks in when you’ve been at a certain minimum RPM in top gear for a certain amount of time, or a certain number of revolutions.

Well it’s obviously a five speed manual transmission so unless they’re counting reverse as another gear then something was incorrect in the advertisement

I’ve gone onto a hpi checker and it says the same thing. 6 gears. I’m really confused

I mean I guess you could look at it at six gears but it’s definitely not 6 speeds

Reverse is another gear but every car has reverse so it’s usually not advertised as gears, usually it’s speeds , reverse is the same as first in speed

Unless I am mistaken maybe they class the R as the 6 gear

The previous owner lied or thought wrong or counted the reverse gear as an additional gear
