• I put my truck in a parking garage so I could visit a friend that lived nearby. When I was leaving there was no human to take my money, only a machine to take a credit card. I refuse to put a 8 dollar charge on my credit card so I pushed the button to talk to somebody in the office

This is false imprisonment. Office guy- Please wait. So a minute later a guy in a suit comes over and takes my 8 bucks and takes a key out of his pocket and raises the gate.

I can see that this will be a problem going forward. Young people have no problem having their every purchased being tracked and recorded but the government already has their nose in my business too much already

Instead you should say "I don't have a credit card or debit card." after all it is none of their business if you do or don't.

Around here there is still businesses that don't take cards though, mostly restaurants because they don't want to deal with charge backs, fees and raising their prices to cover all that. Instead it is cash only... and they are very popular mom & pops.

What is fun though, is to go into a gas station or somewhere, and if the total is $4.28 give them a $5 and three pennies and watch how confused they get at giving out change. Like uh, just give me 3 quarters. 🤣🤣

Cash registers these days tell the tellers the amount of change to give a customer.
I'll be an old fart and say "When I was your age" I learned how to make change efficiently when I was 13 years old, working weekends at my uncle's gas station. Well actually, my mom showed me how to do it. Super easy.
It served me well with some of my jobs in high school.

Sometimes I do that. This was the first time it happened to me. I had no idea that it was going to be a thing.. I had dinner in a restaurant one night and I wanted to buy a gift card for my wife. My meal was 25 bucks and the gift card was 50. I gave the kid 4 20 dollar bills and he gave me back 3 ten dollar bills.

I have paid my rent by check where I live for seven years. Then we got a notification saying no more checks! So the choice was to dededuct it from my checking account or I could go to certain pharmacies and send it through the pharmacy. HUH?
I cannot get to a pharmacy, so, my only choice was to let them deduct rent from my account directly.
Now my balance is all messed up and I can't straighten it out.

I had an internet provider that charged 20 bucks a month for internet. They told me that I had to let them put it on my credit card as a monthly charge. When I cncelled the service They continued to tput the charge on my credit card. I called the credit card company and they would not take the charge off the card unless the internet provider called them. Finally I ended up cancelling the credit card. I left the balance on it and just threw the bills in the trash when they showed up

Yes. I was at a trendy bar/restaraunt that refused to take my cash but demanded I pay card. I informed them that I didn't have card because it was broke which it was and they said it wasn't their problem but if I didn't pay they'd call the police. I put my money on the table and had my girl who had no purse to video me doing it. They called the police on me and brought me back to the restaurant and they confirmed that I did leave cash and they were refusing to take it, police let me go and apologised. The restaurant manager got a warning about wasting police time as they refused payment in legal tender.

There is a law against refusing to take legal tender. You did the right thing and the cops backed you up. The local MLB ballpark wanted to go cashless. They were told they could not totally refuse to take cash. They had to set up a bunch of machines that would take your cash and issue you a card with a preset amount of money on it and you could use the card. Well, I did notice that the business at all the beer and hot dog stands were way down and the kids that used to come up in the stands and sell popcorn and stuff were gone.

Yes, I took the train to new your city and I parked my truck at the rail station. It cost 20 bucks a day. I stayed in NY for 4 days and when I came back I could see that somebody put chalk marks on my afront tire to indicate how many days i had been there. I tucked in behind another car and when the gate went up, I got real close to this car and drove through just as the gate started to close.

Increasingly. And I push back increasingly, too. On more than one occasion, I've been stuck at automated checkout systems only to find they have NO cash options, and I have no other checkout options. I flag down the cameras, show the note I've written (I used to write them on the spot, but it's gotten to the point where I carry them prewritten now), and leave it, with cash. Let them TRY to bust me for it; the law's on my side.

I generally try to avoid places that don't take cash; I really don't want to be an asshole about this (and I REALLY don't want to send the message that it's okay to deny legal tender), but some places don't even bother putting up notices. And sometimes, there IS no choice. I'll be as much of a jackass as they force me to be- no more, but certainly no less.

That is why it would be good if we could completely eliminate the central government and return all control and power to the individual 50 states. Nope. Where I live in Florida, a lot of small businesses are actually going back to "only cash" because they don't want to deal with woke merchant accounts/credit cards that tell people what they can and can't spend money on.

I've seen people who can't figure out how to ring up certain self checkout items, that don't have barcode items, so they just pay for the rest and walk out.

Grocery stores are big on this with produce that has to be selecting a code and weighing it.

Gas stations if they have hot food with no barcode on it too. No one either knows how to look up something or don't want to.

Those self check outs are costing more in loss.

To solve this issue - vastly more people who are of the 99% lower class need to stsrt buying shares and ownership of corporations partnerships and sole proprietorships. We dont and will never all own the same amount as each other - nore do we all deserve to as some will always work slightly harder or slightly less than others.

But technology and robots take over most/all labour in the future - and we each own the means of production coming out of that labour - there is enough currently for every American to have a net worth of $770,000 and live frugally and comfortably.

The plus side of no longer using cash... I can tell bums hitting me up for change that I haven't used cash for years... which puts a little skip in my step because I know they can't get anything out of me to support their drug habit.

I watched a show once, and companies around the world were trying to come up with a way to invent digital currency. Not credit or debit, but just a way of exchanging money, that was not traceable. I'm sure they can do it, but big brother doesn't want us to spend money without them knowing about it. So maybe the only way it could be done is with crypto currency. I come to your yard sale and pick out something. Then I point my thingy at your thingy, and the crypto is beamed to your thingy. No one needs to know what you sold or what I bought, or who we even are.

some places are going to cashless payments, it can save on employee costs.
A good rule of thumb is to check out places if possible before hand so you know what type of payments they accept.
Also only taking cashless payments helps cut down on employee thefts, but you also need to look at your bill carefully, as now there are little extras that seem to be added on at places.
I like paying cash, it makes me think twice before spending money, as you actually see the money leaving your hands.
There will be plenty of places that will still accept real money.

I don't know how it's in your country but businesses are obliged to take cash. I guess if the situation would escalate, you could sue them. That's why someone moved their butt from the office.
You aren't obliged legally to have a bank account, credit card or smart phone.

Most places I go still will take cash. The only place I had that experience with was a discount grocery store since I was already being checkout, I used my debit card, but I don't plan on shopping there again. I personally don't like shopping at places that take the option of paying with cash away.

In the US, and in Canada where I am, cash is legal tender. If I choose to pay cash for something, I'm allowed to and so are you! It's not our problem if the cashier or the managers don't want to touch it once I put it on the counter.

They are trying to make it harder but I just refuse. I was in CVS pickingup my prescription. The kid t the register tells me they cannot tsk cash. i look at her and say Why not? Sjhe tells me the cash drawer was locked. I told her that I didn't have a credit card and I would just leave the money on the counter. She decides the get the manager. so the manager comes over and then goes in his office and gets the key to the cash drawer and takes my money. He looked a little bit annoyed but tough toenails.

That's weird. Most cash registers here open the cash drawer automatically at every sale, no matter how the customer is paying. When the cashier shuts it, the transaction is completed and the receipt is printed. She is just a young person who was taught to parrot a line from store management.

Believe me, I know for a fact that this employee is pressured by management to say that. I also worked as a cashier at a pharmacy here back between 2008-2012 or so, and was told by the store manager to say we didn’t accept credit cards. We absolutely were capable of processing credit card payments because we took debit cards as well. They just didn’t want the hassle of paying the fees.

I was taught to feed this bullshit line to customers and often got yelled at by annoyed customers in return. Everything that a store does or doesn’t do is the manager’s fault or head office policy. People like to act like it’s the fault of the 18 year old kid at the counter though LOL

I don’t actually have an issue paying with a card but my biggest problem is that it’s taking away a job for someone, usually a student or teen who should be getting work experience. These companies have so much money at their disposal, yet they want to have 10 machines manned by one person who always looks like they’re stressed, because they have to manage more stupid customers at once. I remember when I worked in retail in my early 20's cash was still the majority transaction, that isn't the case anymore. Cash transactions make up only about 10% anymore. The junk food machine at my work only takes credit cards. Well, it has a money slot for dollar bills but it never works, and the guy that fills the machine says the company has no desire to fix it. So, it's $1.30 on the credit card for a candy bar.

Most places are card only or they have 1 self check out that takes cash. Cashiers don't even take cash anymore. I waited on a line for 20 minutes to get checked out by a human and when I handed her the money she said she's only taking cards, if I wanted to pay cash I had to go to self check out. I barely ever carry cash. Only thing I really pay cash for is tattoos or if I'm going to a fair. The rest I just use my debit card and tap to pay.
