The compact cassette tape is older than the 8 track tape, but both were introduced to the US market around the same time.

The cassette tape was invented in 1962 by Phillips’ Belgium team, introduced to the European market in 1963, and came to America in November of 1964. Stereo 8 Cartridges (commonly known as 8 track) went on the US market in 1965.

First, it was vinyl after the Edison tube, then 8 track which is actually 4 tracks, but they call it eight tracks because of the left and right stereo channels, then cassette and then CD, and now streaming.

It is the 8 track. Ford introduced it in 1965. The technology was similar to cart machines used in radio stations..

In 1971 Advent developed the first cassette deck with Dolby noise reduction.
