Or maybe even the worst thing to happen? I think so. The truth is that I'm getting tired of GAG, and this is the only such site that I use. I don't use Facebook, Twitter, Instagramme, Reddit or any other such "service". I tried out Facebook for a while, because I wanted to find out what had happened to the people I went to secondary school with, but as soon as I did (and downloaded a few school photos) I closed down my account there.
For the most part social media can be a huge waste of time also it can be very toxic. It is brought out the narcissistic qualities and people as they now want to be a tick tock star and video record other people's misfortunes or them doing crimes as they do Facebook live as they beat up somebody or kill somebody it's just crazy. I'm going to say the biggest culprit is the smartphone itself. If people did not have the internet at the fingertips at all times it would be better if they would have just kept the internet to computers only desktops or laptops I honestly think that would make a big difference so someone would have to either be a home or a library or remember internet cafes... Remember those I miss those days they were better times. So my solution is, go back to like the late 90s before smartphones go back to internet on computers only still have a cell phone but like a brick or a flip phone. And no texting phone calls only on the cell phone, make people actually talk to each other and not the texting insanity. Save a lot of lies with car accidents also the no More death by selfies. Get a GPS for directions or buy a paper map there you go that would solve a lot and improve things dramatically.

I couldn't agree more. It's essentially just a waste of our time, when we could be doing more productive things, such as reading books, spending more time with your loved ones, watching a movie/show/series, volunteering at an animal shelter, or some organization, taking a new class in something, or getting a new hobby. Not to mention the amount of toxic people that you come across on a daily basis that will attack you, if you happen to disagree with them on something, even if your comment was polite and inoffensive and have never learned how to have a civil dialogue/conversation with anyone. Honestly some of the stuff I read online, make me lose my faith on humanity and want to withdraw to myself. I had no idea people can be that shallow, unempathetic and ruthless.
TikTok is even worse than Gag, as it's a huge echo-chamber. I once made a comment today under a TikTok video, it wasn’t the same opinion as everyone else’s but I assure you it was innocent. I don’t post mean or provoking comments. What i was shocked about was how quick I got a response from the OP telling me I’m wrong and that nobody cares about my thoughts. Like it was just a thought, I can’t even say it was an opinion because I didn’t even feel that strongly about it lmao. I can’t imagine how much useless information and negativity people consume from there on a daily basis.
There were far less kids committing suicide before social media allowed online bullying. I had never even heard of girls/boys committing suicide in all my years of schooling until social media came out. Also, far less deaths due to Tik Tok or people trying to get selfies in dangerous places.
There is for sure negativity associated with “social media” with increased rates of anxiety, depression, and poor self-esteem, particularly among teenagers and young adults including cyberbullying and harassment. Then you also have rapid spread of misinformation and fake news, which can influence public opinion and disrupt democratic processes. However, I have the opinion of it being more positive, with its unique ability to connect people across the globe, help maintain relationships and foster communities around common interests that would otherwise be impossible. The platforms can enable users to raise awareness about various issues and influence social change. It can also provide access to a broad range of information and educational resources that are not easily accessible elsewhere. There is obviously more that can be done to address the issues but in general I love social media apps and the futuristic potential is huge.

On paper it’s a brilliant thing, then you factor in that humans are arseholes and great at breaking things. It breeds a new levels of bullying, new avenues to abuse others. You just need a week on gag to see how fucked up people are.
Social media gives people who really should not be given one a voice to attack others, to promote conspiracy theories, fake news, abuse of others.it directly influences people self harming, even committing suicide.
there are some positives, it does allow people to socialise on a global scale but also allows all the negatives on a global scale.
I suppose so it’s like
the old wives spun their tales and gossip girls gave their gab
Essentially I’m saying it’s made for children it promotes “socializing,” and I don’t see how that works towards real world problems and solving issues.
It’s just a bunch of drama. A virtual adult family table near Thanksgiving time. It’s the kardashians personified. It’s everything wrong.
Its been used for good and it’s enjoyed by some sentimentalists and social butterfly’s but it’s just not the same as in person for those who want and those need that kind of encounter.
Social media wasn’t a solution to anything. It’s wasn’t something practical. It’s just a megaphone and amp for the crazy conversations that insults others. It’s just like family bickering but 10x worse.
Nope it saved my life and I mean literally.
It's just simply how you use it.
The funny thing I always see as a point for why it's bad 'it's made people like this' when no, no it hasn't at all people were always like that smh.
You really think people weren't anxious of their looks in the 80s?
You really think people didn't pull pranks or bully in the 80s?
You really think people never used social status in the 80s?
But ya know people want something to blame for the reason why humans are animals and act like it, rather than the obvious fact we are just animals. No, lol.
I got rid of it for a while, simply because I was going through stuff. I sometimes used to disconnect my cell service too. I only did that for me time though, didn’t have any changes to my life.
It helps with keeping in touch with friends and family especially. I rarely used to talk to my mom as a kid when she was deployed or out of the country. Now with social media we can use FB messenger, Instagram messenger, & see pics of our loved ones. When in Alaska I joined a couple of Facebook groups too (neighborhood, lemon lots) which really helped when it came to bears and moose in certain areas & when people were giving away their stuff. Social media really helps with communication. If you use it for shitty things, then yeah it can be bad for you lol. If so, just don’t use it.
There’s always pros and cons. You can stick with the cons or focus on the pros. Maybe try tik tok or IG.
Gag is only some parts of the world and locations that doesn’t seem very positive of late cuz of the particular populations, politics, repeated stuff, and such. It’s okay to take a break or leave if it’s no longer serving you. Plus, it’s more important to spend time in your real life.yeah, i think so too.
For one it brings out the worst of humans, showing more of their disgusting selves, allowing us to distance ourselves from them.
On the other hand its vast popularity turned humans into smartphone zombies. It turned from making an emergency call for someone in need into recording the incident and posting it on the internet. it turned girls into insecure social media addicts. It sells your sensitive data to whoever asks for it. It made it so that you in public can't really express yourself unless you want to be seen online by millions and getting called anything from cuck to simp and the female equivalents thereof or become the next unexpected insulting meme, that'll haunt you.
No. Social media is just a tool, it is people who are misusing the tool in question. Furthermore, we are currently in a very bad situation with things like climate change and such things. Compared to real world issues, social media sits squarely in the "first world problems" category as something you need to have the luxury to be bothered by.
Yes I believe so. It has brought so much turmoil in relationships and marriages from being able to cheat much more easier via social media. It's really useless besides the only time when people really needed it which was during the pandemic. The only reason why I even have a Facebook is for my family and I only talk to them on it.
It has its ups and downs. It connects people lightning fast globally, and you can’t get that with phones. It has given us some eye opening realities that you just couldn’t get with people locally or your neighbor or family member. It’s also an excuse for a lot of people to just give little meaning to words and a reason to talk to everyone in an awful way.

this would be thinking of those "first world privileged" yes...
It is pretty bad and it brought to light the ridiculously high amount of dumb asses across the world and gave them a platform to speak on lol.
Mostly, yeah. But a few good things did come out of it, like reconnecting to old friendships or family members
It would be fine if far right billionaires didn't exploit it for microtargeting their culture war scams.

By itself? No. If anything, it just brought many other issues to light in terms of body image, political polarization, and others.
The bad things about it far outweigh any of the good things.
absolutely I don’t really use social media I find it negative
Not even close.
Anyone that doesn't like social media can simply not go on it.
No one is forcing you to have a social media account nor to download any apps.naw. i think social media only amplified problems that were already there.
No, it's the people who use it who have issues. For example, you hear about men abusing it most often
No ma'am disagree social media is the best thing happened because it's give me opportunity to talk to you. 🙃
